I pick my nose in the morning and at night as part of my hygiene routine. I pick my nose, I wash my fingers, I interdental brush my teeth, I electric toothbrush brush my teeth, I do my skincare, I put on sunscreen, I style my hair, etc. At night I pick my nose while showering to make sure it's nice and clear. Plus it's ideal since I wear a nose dilator when I sleep, so as I breathe through my nose and not my mouth (no tape needed, fortunately, but if one DOES need tape, use silicone tape to avoid any sticky residue from the tape, it's awesome). I don't pick my nose randomly throughout the day, which is the image people get. My nose-picking is a hygiene practice that goes with my other hygiene selfcare stuff at a specific time(s) of the day. I essentially never blow my nose, since I never seem to get that much mucus going on, and that won't properly clear the nasal cavity of stuff anyway. So it seems I should wash my fingers, pick (gently of course), then wash my fingers again, is what I'm getting from this. If soap can handle that particular bacteria... I dunno about that study, either. First, it's rats. Then, it seems they just put that bacteria up the nose of the rats and then the bacteria took hold. But, that's not via nose-picking, and they probably inserted it way deeper than a finger would go, and they probably used way more of the bacteria than what would be found on a finger... PERHAPS. I dunno!
You guys should look into the benefits of saline nasal rinsing with a neti pot. I used to get sick all of the time and now I rarely get sick. And I used to pick my nose alot, but now I don't really need to pick it because my neti pot keeps it clean! It also helps tremendously with allergies and asthma.
The first SYSK I have heard in about 4 years. I am glad to get back in the habit.
