Huh. I just read (in the Ann Friedman Weekly) the possibility that: “We need a "decentered" history of the world, which would mean "giving up the ambition to tell a single, cohesive, global grand narrative, and instead to embrace a multiplicity of human experiences and perspectives," writes Harry Stopes.”
Reliably incisive, lucid, prescient, Jared. Odd, don't you think, that we are blessed with righteous minds keenly alert to the shape and character of the vastly complex pathology we face but, as it goes, inadequate to describing, never mind catalyzing, a coherent, consolidated, planetary response. Why is that, do you think? . Why is a fix so elusive?
speaking of narratives--"AI" is a bad metaphor that has created its own narrative. it is neither "artifical" nor "intelligence" but we just have to pretend we are worried about those two concepts, when really it's about reinforcing existing tropes from existing inputs.
@@paulkesler1744 it is not “intelligent” and we have tried to retcon intelligence into it because someone lobbed that word at a concept that was entirely different. LLMs don’t have knowledge, don’t know “why” anything is anything, and in no way are intelligent as we understand it. It’s not just a bad metaphor-it’s bad metonymy.
What a breath of fresh air to hear such sane voices discussing these issues, thank you both.
Brilliant Stuff! Fascinating, Terrifying in parts... Extremely well articulated overall... Thank You!
I completely agree with the guest's analysis.
Great interview. Enlightening. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for this interview! Would love to see another one from you two
yes I think we should do more!

Fascinating and illuminating conversation, Daniel. I am going to buy (like the good consumer I am) your guests’ book. Thank you!❤
I believe Forward and backwards would depict the goal better than left and right. There’s no center anymore.

Replacing bad metaphors with vague abstractions is hardly edifying. You might want to be more specific.
