  • In today's stream, we're thrilled to have Phemto, also known as Jordan Guzak, join us for an in-depth exploration of the Push 3. Jordan is no stranger to this technology; he's been an avid user of the Push 2 for years and was among the first to get his hands on the latest Push 3. Notably, he has released lots of music over the years under a number of aliases, developed the Modbang riser line of products, shieldXl battery mod, and Max for Live devices specifically designed to enhance the Push 3 experience coming soon. You'll find links to his music and work below. Buckle up and prepare to delve into Push 3 tactics from the ground up!

I bought the controller version for $1000 and a used macbook air M1 for $700 so I saved $300 from the $2000 stand alone version and it's more powerful, almost as portable, and you get a decent size screen with the ability to watch P----hub during your live sets.

So glad some people are seeing how amazing this device is, and understand the value. All those complaints of it being $2k are underestimating how versatile it is, and how many problems this thing solves. I am sure I will get the itch for some new equipment at some point, but man it's going to be difficult to justify anything else. I can get close enough to any sound I can dream up. Yeah the FM implementation isn't quite as sweet as a Digitone, but I'd give that up for having an infinite sound pallet in one box with no cables, and a battery. What's more, is if anyone had the skill (hello Ess @Fors) Digitone style racks and instruments are all possible.

This is probably the device of the decade. Maybe you could get us a update of the important topics, now 6 months after release: inclusion of more options for standalone operation (follow actions, Midi mapping, other small (?) leftovers) and then the topic of syncronisation with external hardware gear

What is the purpose of routing to the audio tracks for you - is it mostly for how you interact with the midi fighter? Very informative video! One thing you said you'd cover but didn't quite cover in the end: can this be used for producing a full track with preprogrammed automation for things like the intro, break, buildup, drop etc? I understand the concept of clips and it seems the Push is meant for live performances, but could you make copies of clips and eg create "scenes" where one longer scene of say 16 bars is the intro, and you then add automation over that full length to eg open up a filter? And then basically stack a bunch of scenes on the clip layout so you can play back a finished song by progressing scenes one by one? I'm more of a producer kind of guy, I don't stand and perform in front of an audience or anything, so to me it's about being able to basically get a much more flexible and better sounding MPC - not a device to perform on live but to make full songs on. Thanks!

Great tutorial over all. Really loving that they fixed the sample selection issue with the drum rack. @ 1:09:06 you guys say that you found a bug but I noted that you had an automation dot on the transpose in the simpler. When you changed the slot pitch it did transpose the sample but that transpose automation date was still there. I coudl be wrong. I hope I am because automating the slot pitch would be great. Curious if you concur. Thanks for the great content.

Great video! Wow… lots of info. Apologies if this was covered somewhere and I missed it.
I come from a DAWless, Elektron background and just got Ableton… and sort of waiting for a Push 3 to really dig in because I’m really not into the computer screen and mouse.
I’m thinking of a Push 3 in combination with a Novation Launchkey 3, which is also supposed to be set up for Ableton. Would that make sense or is that just overkill and duplicating the controls? Would it be better to connect the Launchkey to the Push 3 or just go straight to the computer?

    • @wakinglife7065
      @wakinglife7065 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I haven’t tried it yet but I use it Novation launch/ key mkiii for Ableton and MPC.. it doesn’t double up controls but it’s useful for mixing and adding keys to pads. But I think the Akai Mini Plus would be better with its joystick and fully assignable cc knobs etc. it has its own sequencer as well and is fully class compliant with 5 din midi in and out. The push 3 has the 1/8? Inch version so you need an adapter like boss. But I could be totally wrong. I’m getting a push 3 soon aswell as mini plus so I’ll do some experimenting and get back to you

1:47:24 with monitoring set to In/Auto the latency is recorded as well, it records what you hear, latency included. “Off” is most accurate with no latency (set up Delay Error Compensation to make it work), you just monitor directly with an interface. Ableton’s help page is written a bit oddly on it.
Anyway, cool stream, my impression of the standalone is that its not yet standalone yet lol, still missing essential features and I’d say it’s seriously challenging for Ableton to include them all.

comment about ratchets : best way to make ractchets is live, with repeat fct, with loop selector you can focus on the part of the loop where you want to add some. just record , listen, undo if necessary.
1 more tip : I Highly recommend for beat construction to use the loop selector and repeat fct, start with 1/4 for kick and snare, so you don't even need the metronome ( I hate its sound, never use it) , move to 1/8 for more rythm and then higher rates for highhats and ratchets , fill some bars with various loops, then play with the loops you made to make a performance, add some non recorded events for variation if you wish. Now lets make the magic happens : go to nex clip, hit capture... and here you go, you can have a very long performance recorded (64 bars I think) as a clip. you can even have mute and automations recorded. Best thing with that : you don't even need to know how to fingerdrum to end with a really "human" performance ( you can use recorded groove from you favourite drummer to make it sound more human)

When In mode, the internal is delaying the full project transport based on the biggest estimated channel's lantency. If the standalone is a computer, why no ability to hook up a monitor and keyboard?

i still dont really get why you would get one! doesnt translate well for performance, a nerfed DAW standalone. Less mouse clicks required for same workflows.

The price difference between the one without and the one with the CPU and RAM in it is pretty outrageous considering they can't give 11th gen Intel processors away, and it's an i3. Thenwhen you consider how cheap ram is currently as well. Intel sells the nuc that it's in the processing unit for the push for $200.
Also go listen to some reaktor ensembles on maschine+ standalone and tell me they don't sound almoat analog

Learn how to play this instrument before you start complaining about missing features and things you wish. This instrument is made for artist, no matter what you do or how you play this instrument it will always sound like a "push" or have that "push" sound. Its not about what it cant do, its about what YOU can do.

I can make it sound like any hardware synth I own just by connecting the synth via MIDI. Push 3 is a controller, not an instrument.

@@mdeerocks6792Its definitely both and more. Not sure how you could possibly say its not an instrument when it has one of the best and most expressive MPE functionality on the market.
