Well, that's opened my eyes to what I should be charging for those jobs! I've been undercharging, clearly! No wonder people have been snapping my hand off! And i do a good job (yes, they're a bit wobbly for the reasons you said, but they go all the way back) and i check for nests first. I actually feel out of a conifer hedge the beginning of the week but, thanks to years of rock climbing when i was younger, i had a good grip and caught myself before flattening next doors chain link fence and it going up my chuff. I've pulled my neck and shoulder but nothing too bad. Think my prices might go up for these jobs!
You got a skill, a trade, and people think you'll charge nothing like you too don't need to pay bills and buy food... You worked hard to get good at what you do, people should understand that this is a specialist skill if you want s job done properly, so you pay the fee🤷🏿♂️.
There's no way a huge hedge can be checked properly for birds nests, they do tend to hide them as best they can. Who ever did it must be amateur desperate for the money and not give a shit. They are about they'll say they can do anything, crap job take the money, not Finnish or clearing up properly you know the type, and off they go to the next house that'll be conned. Serves some people right.
Well done. We need to STOP undercutting each other. It's not a race to the bottom. Running a van with pro gear, fully insured, trained and compliant, we deserve to make a fair profit.
But there's no price index or standardised pricing. I don't know what everyone else is charging so don't know if I'm undercutting or not! That's the issue I feel. I don't want to undercutting but want to offer value for money and cover my costs with a decent wage on top.
Great when that happens,i was wondering Nathan after just watching your short clip on the Etesia if the chute does block in the wet,i have never used one but tempted by them, for about 20 years have always used the hrx s honda, and not that clever in long and wet.In your opinion would the etesia handle most situations.Any opinion would be appreciated.
I moved over to etesia from honda years ago as they just wouldn't collect in the wet and I've tried most solutions. Still use the big 21" pro honda and it's ok if I'm using but as soon as someone uses they spend more time unblocking it. Bought my last honda in 2012 and regretted it the same week, a 19" pro hydrostatic one. The Etesia will block but it's chute is low and wide so gives to the best chance of it doing well in the wet. 36ish kgs too so pretty light. If owner operator you'd easily get 8/ 10 years out of one. Mine take a hammering and these ones are into their 5th season
People just don't get that you get what you pay for!!😂 I actually did a big conifer hedge this week. I do it every few yrs and take out 6-8ft foot. Not ideal timing as you say but I'd got behind and their view across the bay had all but gone so needs must 👍 Busy on grass today, dry for a change ☀️
This reminds me of someone who asked me for a quote to do Restoration Pruning on 3 Large, Veteran Apple Trees. They needed a lot of time and care on these. Suffice to say that she didn't like my Competitive Quote. She phoned me back 2 weeks later and asked if I could put right the mess that the Gardener with the "Cheaper quote done. Oh My Gosh, a Mess was an understatement, he/she had drastically 'Pollarded the poor Tree's to an inch of their life. I told her that they could be Restored? But would take time and a heck of a lot of money to do. She basically said l, Go Do One and accused me of embezzlement because I'm a Chartered Horticulturist 😮
Yep,topping conifers is hard to do properly so they don't look butchered. I've got a client, who''s neighbour got some tree butchers in,they cut all the branches off and top. Now she has 40 foot tutem pole's,next door.😅
I have always said that in life you only get what you pay for 🙏If you cant afford to repair a Mercedes DONT ! buy one , if you cant afford to trim a hedge have it removed at a one off payment 🤷♂
Ah Nathan, what a result. I just turn up to mow a regular lawn for the first time I could get on it. And guess what they already had it done ... With a Rotovater !! Ha Ha, Av a bit of that loyalty. Keep working hard mate, Garry Solihull.
I've just had somebody asking me for a price so I said send me some pictures for an estimate can I give them a price and they said ok I don't need it cutting yet come back in a couple of week😂😂😂😂😂😂
We have it where we have been doing all the little jobs no one wants then get someone else for the big job. Then that phone call later any right minded person with morals would never make, for that little job again.Never, ever do we go back and Yes you should laugh, they made the choice.
You get what you pay for, I get it all the time when you are in a good position work wise put in a decent price and let other numpty people do it for cheaper, that’s if they even turn up
I did a job friday… next door pops round wanting some trimming doing.. oh and a hedge reduction doing.. Price depends on the size of the hedge I guess, wages, waste and vat and all that other run stuff😅 cheers 👍
This made me smile 😊 👍👍👍

A customer let me go for a guy who was about 4 quid a visit cheaper a few years ago. I drove past months later and grass was knee high 🤣 brilliant!

They can end up looking terrible and sometimes you can't help taking chunks out, generally level helps tho for when they recover a bit👍
Have A top weekend
You too mate👍 dry weather finally 👌
I have always said that in life you only get what you pay for 🙏If you cant afford to repair a Mercedes DONT ! buy one , if you cant afford to trim a hedge have it removed at a one off payment 🤷♂
That does make sense fair play 👍 cheers
simply if you cant afford to have a nice hedge trimmed by a professional at a professionals fee , don't have a hedge 😉
Ah Nathan, what a result. I just turn up to mow a regular lawn for the first time I could get on it. And guess what they already had it done ... With a Rotovater !! Ha Ha, Av a bit of that loyalty. Keep working hard mate, Garry Solihull.
Should have just waited til it and you were ready, I'm sure they'll want it sorted tho👍

Yes mate

It happens right 🙄 priced a lawn this week for fortnightly cut and they replied saying great... we'll have that done but monthly 😬🤣
Folk want a platinum finish for bronze money, there you go ha ha.😊
They get brown finish from me often🤣

And there will definitely be some homeless birds😢
This time of year most hedges should be left unless checked or just trimmed
