      Absolutely slayed me. I cried - sobbing cried during this and when Hugh talked to Steven for the last time.

    I think Theo's nightmare is because she's being consumed by hands. She can feel everything that they've felt. Any pain or unhappiness is put onto her at once.

    I was so not emotionally prepared for the end of this series. I lost my father two years ago, so roughly a year when Haunting premiered. The last dialogue between Steven and his father had me sobbing. It was so beautiful and cathartic and real. It literally stayed in my head for days afterward and I had a hard time even talking about the series to anyone. Haunting was so unbelievably brilliant. One of the best I’ve seen on television. Also- deep thoughts here- you know that each of the children represents a stage of grief, right? It’s almost like it becomes magnified after their time in the house. For a “horror story” this was a masterpiece in loss and the family dynamics that follow. Just brilliant.

    You were right to be waiting for the other shoe to drop at the end. Originally that last shot with the family celebrating Luke's 2 year sobriety birthday was going to have that same tall, narrow window in the background, suggesting they'd never left the red room. But Mike Flanagan changed his mind.

    • @pedroafonso73
      @pedroafonso73 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He changed his mind on being obvious. There are still various elements in that shot that suggests that they're still in the red room, like the red cake and Steven's wife being pregnant.

      @@pedroafonso73 Flanagan confirmed he decided that the ending should be happy. Steven could have well reversed his vasectomy, and the cake being red? Well, what do you do with a cake? It's eaten. It's all about living with and beyond trauma, rather than succumbing to it.

    The red room was not a safe room - it was full of black mold which can be deadly. And, Theo's "dream" was not about two hot women - it was about Theo no longer feeling... And, the story was being told of the man in the wall that haunted Luke...

    This show is stunning and almost flawless. You need to watch/react to a Hidden Ghosts of Hill House video - some may be questionable but others you can never unsee. Give this show a second watching and I think you will be even more impressed with it.
    The original film version, The Haunting (1963), which stays quite close to the original book is still considered one of the best "haunted house" movies. It's completely different but you can see how Mike reworked the original material.

    re-watch the scene with Theo's dream in the House again. there's more to it than I think you understood. the show definitely warrants more than one watch to truly get the nuances.

    I would have interpreted the red room as being the most dangerous. Keeping them still to feed off of them. I think it directly impacts how the house was very blatantly supernatural but played on their mental defenses thus the spiritual vs mental illness link carried throughout the show.

    Originally there was a twist where when they were celebrating Luke’s sobriety and you can see the window in the back is the red room window, but I’m glad they changed it. The characters went through so much pain and change, and the show was so tragic, I felt like the happy ending was deserved. They suffered enough, IMO.
