American here in Serbia on the Danube River. I always feel at home here and try to speak Serbian whenever I can. Yesterday 5 young guys showed up where I am staying, mostly guys from the area who live abroad who came back for the summer. They started making fresh fish stew with a pot they borrowed from the house here. They invited me to come try it and it was amazing! I think am old enough to be their dad, but they asked me to play soccer with them. My side lost 5-3 and I skinned my knee, but it was great fun. Super guys!
The place is Ark Village near Apatin, super spot for relaxing, biking, canoeing, camping etc. The nearby nature reserve Gornje Podunavlje is outstanding

You can find this kind of events all around Serbia. Usually they have the name that start with type of food (or drink) people are competing at followed by - ijada. There are competitions in making: sausage - kobasica - kobasicijada cabbage - kupus - kupusijada crispy pork lard - čvarak - čvarkijada goulash - gulaš - gulašijada pork chop - but - butijada or even pig or bull balls 😁- muda - mudijada (they like to say that they are testiclelicious ) and bunch of other which is always hilarious some have become huge festivals with thousands of visitors like Serbian grill - roštilj - roštiljijada in Leskovac and has been going on for decades. Also, people love to call them - Worlds Championships in ....ijada. Even at smaller events like this one or in some little village who knows where 😁 I love your videos. Don't you ever leave Serbia!

I recommend you to go in Zaovine, it's 15km from your accommodation, there are few more lakes, maybe more beautiful than the Perucac lake and for sure with better and cleaner water. Also recommend to visit monastery Raca near the Bajina Basta town.

Canadians don't exactly approve all US policies, but they simply has no choice but to follow. They became, sadly, but de facto, an US satellite. He is living on another planet and he was told there are some bad people out there that need to be pacified and teached some manners.
It is always made with a lot of different species of fish... Čorba is then much better. In Serbia we use carp, catfish, white fish, pike, perch, bass, etc. Everything is mixed... And always there are heads inside,👍
Awwww this is such a throwback to some b-days celebrated in the woods in areas that look just like that, when I was a kid... we used to hike until we found the right spot, set up camp and started the cook-out... aahh those were the days. Now we can't do that cause everybody wants to drive everywhere, they want tables and chairs instead of eating on the ground, picnic style... they want to bring coolers instead of chilling the drinks in the creek. It's the consumer's mentality. You buy a car, so you use it, you buy a culler, and you are encouraged and talked into buying more and more stuff, so you feel you need to use all of them all the time or as much as possible to justify the expense, or just because you have them. When in fact one does not need all that stuff.. at all. It kills spontaneity, everything has to be preplanned and arranged in advance, because all the stuff needs to be manipulated around, or bought for the occasion. It's tiresome how the world is today

I’ve been to every country in Europe and Serbia by far had the kindest, most hospitable people. I remember crossing the border from Hungary by foot when a mini bus driver offered to drive me to Novi Sad. He was so proud of his country, and at the end he refused any payment. ❤️🇷🇸

You can find this kind of events all around Serbia. Usually they have the name that start with type of food (or drink) people are competing at followed by - ijada.
There are competitions in making:
sausage - kobasica - kobasicijada
cabbage - kupus - kupusijada
crispy pork lard - čvarak - čvarkijada
goulash - gulaš - gulašijada
pork chop - but - butijada
or even pig or bull balls 😁- muda - mudijada (they like to say that they are testiclelicious )
and bunch of other
which is always hilarious
some have become huge festivals with thousands of visitors like Serbian grill - roštilj - roštiljijada in Leskovac and has been going on for decades.
Also, people love to call them - Worlds Championships in ....ijada. Even at smaller events like this one or in some little village who knows where 😁

This guys 07.00/07.35 are from my village. This is how they actually live. They even built a small house where they drink, make BBQ and sit every two nights till morning. When you go from Bajina Basta to Tara (Kaludjerske Bare) on 6 km, small house on the left side of the road, you can find them. Actually cool guys.

I had the opportunity to attend a Balkan party when I still lived in Winnipeg. The host is originally from Bosnia but he is a Bosnian-Croat. I have to say, they know how to party really well! Foods and boozes were overflown the whole party. Party was started from 7pm to the next morning 😂😂😂
Bosnian croats converted from Serbs hence their Serbian christian and surnames not to mention their Serb language

I recommend you to go in Zaovine, it's 15km from your accommodation, there are few more lakes, maybe more beautiful than the Perucac lake and for sure with better and cleaner water. Also recommend to visit monastery Raca near the Bajina Basta town.

7:14 Canada, America? A Canadian explained to me they don't consider themself American. Serbians typically assume Canadians are North Americans, therefore American. Which is wrong. Canadians don't exactly approve all US policies, but they simply has no choice but to follow. They became, sadly, but de facto, an US satellite. He is living on another planet and he was told there are some bad people out there that need to be pacified and teached some manners.

It is always made with a lot of different species of fish... Čorba is then much better. In Serbia we use carp, catfish, white fish, pike, perch, bass, etc. Everything is mixed... And always there are heads inside,👍

Awwww this is such a throwback to some b-days celebrated in the woods in areas that look just like that, when I was a kid... we used to hike until we found the right spot, set up camp and started the cook-out... aahh those were the days. Now we can't do that cause everybody wants to drive everywhere, they want tables and chairs instead of eating on the ground, picnic style... they want to bring coolers instead of chilling the drinks in the creek. Meh... my people forgot how to be simple.
It's the consumer's mentality. You buy a car, so you use it, you buy a culler, and you are encouraged and talked into buying more and more stuff, so you feel you need to use all of them all the time or as much as possible to justify the expense, or just because you have them. When in fact one does not need all that stuff.. at all. It kills spontaneity, everything has to be preplanned and arranged in advance, because all the stuff needs to be manipulated around, or bought for the occasion. It's tiresome how the world is today
