Roadtrip through Fayetteville, West Virginia | The Local Palate

The Local Palate traveled to West Virginia to explore the unique culinary scene and cultural eats of this Southern mountain state. After filling our bellies in the capital city of Charleston we traveled on to one of the "best small cities in the country" - the city of Morgantown. To wrap up our culinary journey of West Virginia we landed in Fayetteville, a town located on the rim of the New River Gorge. We dined at city favorites like Cathedral Cafe and explored the flavors of other dining destinations for this river town. The culinary tour of Fayetteville, WV did not stop here - enjoy part three of our West Virginia journey.

Back in the 1980s and early 1990s I ate lunch on numerous occasions at Shads and the Comfort Inn. I knew many of the lawyers and judges. The traffic between Oak Hill and Fayetteville was lighter than it is now. The Cathedral Cafe is very nice. The Secret Sandwich Society burned last year.

Y’all should visit and do a video on Huntington, WV! Right beside Marshall University. There’s SO many good places to eat downtown. Backyard Pizza, Bonhof Biergarten (German), Jim’s Spaghetti, The Cellar Door, & Old North Arcade & Bar, just to name a few!
