    I live 15 minutes or so from the bridge. The area is as beautiful now after driving over it hundreds of times as it was the first time. And some of the trails are absolutely must hikes for anyone who enjoys hiking

      I grew up about 35 mins from there if I take the dirt road over peters mountain into WV. I was in VA on the border near Sweet Springs, WV and Gap Mills. One of my favorite spots to go.

    My Mom was from West Virginia. When I was a kid, we used to go to West Virginia all the time. When they started building this bridge, we went to see it! It was REALLY cool to see what they were doing. They built from both sides of the gorge at the same time! We saw it in the VERY early stages. It's one of my favorite memories! I hope to get there to see the completed bridge someday...

      "Second oldest river in the world," .........according to whom?! Sounds pretty dumb to me.

    • @Arcticos0
      @Arcticos0 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ronrendon the age of a river is determined by the age of the mountains it runs through. In this specific case, the age is measured by the age of the rocks found carved from the river. New River is either the 2nd or 3rd oldest depending who you ask. Either way, North America, and more specifically the Eastern US, is home to many of the world’s oldest rivers.

    I wish they'd Amtrak would allow the New River train to run again because that would be an excellent connection to the Gorge that would help make a good bit of traffic off the road while providing another attraction for the Gorge
