    loved the tutorial! instead of simply a strait brim, i used another tutorial for a wavy brim by making inly 3 rows, and 1 hdc, hdc inc. 2 hdc inc for the next r, and 3 dc, dc inc. and used this tut for the spots. i think it turned out great!

      Hey there! Thank you for bringing up this question. I managed to find the tag for the red yarn I used and it says it is acrylic yarn, 190 meters and 100 grams. Unfortunately I couldn't find the tag for the white yarn, but I'm most certain that it is also acrylic yarn, and just one level thinner than the red yarn I used. Hope this helps ^^

    hi! im having trouble getting the pattern to sit well. im seeing a sort of seam at the end of my rows for some reason.
    just wanted to make sure that at the end of the row, after the last increase, we do one single crochet to close the loop, then chain 1 in the new row right?
    thanks so much!

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heya! The seam is more less normal but it shouldn't be too visible. You shouldn't be ending your round with a single crochet, so maybe thats whats wrong! After the last increase of each round, join your loop with the first stitch of the round using a slip stitch, and then start the new round with a chain! Hope this helps! 💖

    • @PrettyMuchParadise

      Yes, I used a thinner yarn appropriate for a 2.5 mm hook for the gills and spots, and a 4 mm hook for the hat itself!

  • @katrinanieves9331

    Great tutorial but I'm almost done with the hat and there's no way it will fit my head even though I used the same hook size/yarn size😅 Make sure to measure each step of the way so you don't have to redo it later bc it's too small! Even if I made my tension looser, I don't see how this would fit an adult head. Thankfully I'll just be able to give my niece this adorable bucket hat and I'll try again with some more increases or a larger hook in the future!

    Do you have a pattern for a larger size hat? I would happily pay as it's so cute 🙂

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey there! The original pattern is in the description, and in order to have a larger hat you only need to expand the top of the hat, sides, and the brim by a few rounds, equally. (example: if you add 2 rounds to the top of the hat, you should also add 2 to the sides and 2 to the brim)
      The pattern you need to follow for each of these 3 parts is exactly the same as the previous rounds of the same area. So for the top of the hat, when round 10 is 8 half double crochet (hdc) and 1 increase (inc), round 11 would be 9 hdc and 1 inc, round 12 would be 10 hdc and 1 inc, and so on. But do remember what number of hdc you end it on here, as you'll need it for the brim later.
      For the sides the pattern is just 1 hdc in each stitch so just repeat that for the next rounds that you're adding too.
      Now when you get to the brim, you're gonna continue with the previous pattern you were following for the top of the hat. So if the last round of the top of your hat was 10 hdc and 1 inc, here you will begin the first round of the brim with 11 hdc and 1 inc, then 12 hdc and 1 inc, and so forth until the brim has the desired length. Just note that the first round of the brim is worked in the front loops only, but the next ones are done normally. Hope this helps!

      Honestly, I haven't tried this pattern with double crochet so I'm not sure how it would turn out. I suppose it would be mostly the same but since double crochet stitches are taller than half double crochet, you might end up with a less dense texture at the end.

    hi! what does the 1 increase mean?

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there! An increase is when you put one more stitch into the same space you were working in. So for example, if a patterns says to half double crochet (hdc) 8 and increase (inc) 1, that means you should put 1 hdc into each of the next 8 stitches, and then put 2 of them in the stitch that comes after. So in total, you should've crocheted 10 stitches. The point of increasing is to gradually expand our work. I've explained this a bit at 3:52, 4:42, and 6:31 as well, but if its still not clear, there are many video tutorials that do a great job of explaining it!

      Hiya! If you've just begun crocheting for the first time, this is a very common thing that happens, and it happened to me too! The best thing to do is to undo your project and start all over again. You'll see that your work is already looking better and you will probably notice getting faster at it too. Here are some further tips that might help you out:
      1. Make sure that your hook and yarn match each other in terms of size. For example, your hook isn't too small/too big for your yarn.
      2. Pay attention to how much tension you use when crocheting. If you're holding and crocheting too tightly or too loosely (or perhaps even varying your tension), this can cause some issues and make the results look not so great.
      3. Make sure your'e understanding and following the pattern correctly. Sometimes too many or too little stitches in each round can cause ruffling or curling.
      If there were any more questions or issues, don't hesitate to ask ^^ Good luck!

      @@PrettyMuchParadise ah ya, I tried those and it kept happening. If I did the x backwards, that may have been it, but otherwise only about two outta 6-7 attempts worked. Thank you tho! Hey there! I'm sorry but I can only answer this in proximations as I didn't measure them while making this. My red yarn was 100 grams to start with and I used about 3/4 of it so that would be approximately 70-80 grams. And I'm really unsure about the white yarn, I apologize for that.

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Heya! The red yarn I used was acrylic yarn, 190 meters and 100 grams, and I believe it's a #4 type yarn. The white yarn was also acrylic, and I'd say its a #3 type yarn, just one level thinner than the red.

    Anyone has any idea whats wrong w my gills? I almost finished them but they got sooo long - as in, each row got longer and longer and longer. If my first row was 10 CM, the last row was like 16 CM. I thought it was because I would alwqys chain two, but when I tried to not chain 2, the rows obviously don’t look what they are supposed to look like. Any ideas?😅

      You alternate each row between a front post double crochet (FP dc), and a double crochet in the back loop (BL dc).

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heya! I suppose youre refering to the top of your hat that keeps curling on itself. That could have a number of reasons:
      1. Make sure that your hook and yarn match each other in terms of size . For example , your hook isn't too small / too big for your yarn.
      2. Pay attention to how much tension you use when crocheting .
You can check out the written pattern in the description, it might be easier for you to follow it that way. Keep track of the number of stitches you have at the end of each round to make sure youre doing it right.
      I hope this fixes your issue. If there were any more questions, I'd be glad to answer them ^^ good luck!

    May I ask what size hat you made for what age of person?

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course! This hat is adult sized (it fit me perfectly and for reference, the diameter of my head is 54 cm), but of course you can increase or decrease the number of rows on the top, sides, and brim of the hat so that it's the perfect size for you or anyone else you're making it for!
      If it helps, I've also mentioned the sizes of each part of the hat in the video:
      Top: 16.5 cm
      Sides: 7 cm
      Brim: 4.5 cm

      @PrettyMuchParadise hey i know im really late but my increases make a spiraling pattern rather than a straight line like yours, the stitch count is the same thought so ive just kept going, is this due to a difference in tension, yarn or is it an error i made, this is my first crocheting project so maybe its something simple i missed!

    • @PrettyMuchParadise
      @PrettyMuchParadise  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @Mushrooom_CA Hey there! What's happening with your hat is perfectly okay, and you can move on with the steps even if the increases form a spiral. Basically, the reason for this is that at the beginning of each round, you're placing the very first stich into the second stich in front of you, rather than the very same stich you slip stiched and made the 1 chain on top of. This shifts the pattern around by one stich in each round, thus leading to the increases not lining up. Hope this helps!
