      @@fredo3816 not really. I’ve owned like four Hondas… and I’d buy another. It’s just I’ve owned a Suzuki, a Kawasaki, a Triumph, a bmw, and I’ve ridden Ducati’s, KTMs and the like.

    Awesome review. I really appreciated the comparison to the Yamaha Mt-07 as far as the engine character. One of the most applicable and grounded reviews I have seen on this bike. Much appreciated!

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Amanda, I've owned both bikes so was a little easier to be more objective. I just love bikes, the MT07 does have so much character because of that engine, it's the highlight of the bike. However, I think inline fours also have character. They are smooth and rev high. People say they have no character but that IS their character and I think they miss the point. Happy riding!

    @EnglishBikerDan Dual Channel ABS means that front and rear wheels have separate ABS systems. So basically there are 2 ABS systems, which is good for safety, in case of one them fails you won't be out of ABS completely.

    Good review, but that bike has two negatives.
    1) The display. Wtf were Honda thinking? Its virtually unreadable at times, and we aren't even in Summer yet.
    2) The vibration. Now it isn't much, but all Honda in-line 4s, including this bike, can be hand numbing if you dwell at certain revs for any period of time. If you are thinking of buying one, definitely consider what type of riding you are doing. If you commute all year round these inline 4s, especially with the cold can give you problems.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, thanks for the comment. Yes, that screen really needs to be at least 2 or 3 times brighter. As for vibes, I'm not having any issues myself. Lovely and smooth and no noticeable vibes. As said in another comment, I rode for around 5 or 6 hours (with fuel breaks) and was fine the whole time.

    • @rodgerdodger1625
      @rodgerdodger1625 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Englishbikerdan Hi. I'm not trying to say this bike has a vibe issue, but all bikes vibrate, and based on the number of cylinders this vibration will be more pronounced at some frequencies more than others. You may find that riding for hours on end varying rpm and gears will general not cause any issues, but sitting on the motorway for 30m at 6k/80mph could.
      I guess what I'm trying to say to anyone considering buying a bike is, make sure you carry out a demo ride that replicates your day to day riding, and it should be at least one hour. This way you should pick up any potential issues before you part with your hard earned money.
      If a dealer won't let you demo ride for an hour then find a better one!

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@rodgerdodger1625 Agreed, always demo a bike. No way would I part money without that. It's odd because my experience of all the inline 4 bikes is that they're smooth and twins are the vibey bikes. I've owned around 20 bikes and I'd say I've done hundreds of thousands of miles over the years. Still, what bothers some won't bother others! I have heard of vibe issues on the BMW S1000XR though.

    • @rodgerdodger1625
      @rodgerdodger1625 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EnglishbikerdanAs I said all bikes vibrate to some degree or another. Its not possible to have a vibration free bike, its just more noticeable on some bikes than others. Having owned and ridden Honda 650F/650R, Yamaha MT-07, BMW R9T, XSR900, MT-09 SP, Susuki V-Strom 1000 and a 1250 GS they all presented some vibration in the bars/pegs to varying degrees. The only bikes I've ever experienced hand fatigue with is the Hondas and the BMW R9T. Twins are generally more vibey, but it depends on the bike. The BMW 850GS is a twin and is smooth as silk, it still vibes, but its just low level like an inline four.
      Enjoy the 650, I missed the high end torque on mine, and the low end punch of the twins, so I've ended up with a triple.
      Hopefully someone will come out with a hood for the display on the 650R.

      Just to check, you guys know there's an option to increase brightness?
      I have the 2019 CBR500R with the same display, and at max brightness (i think lvl 5 while factory comes at 2 or 3) you can see it without difficulty through the tanned visor in anything except the most direct sunlight, imho.

  • @petewebb6952

    Definitely a bike I would consider if i was reducing to one bike. I have a CB500X which I’m really delighted with for local riding and practical stuff. I also have a T120 which is a different animal altogether. Sometime in the future though I might reduce to just having one bike. Who knows, maybe the CB500X will be enough. The CB650R is probably a lovely bike though. I had a V4 in a ST1300 PAN, which had an incredible engine.

    To soften the suspension you need to reduce damping. Unfortunately pre-load only adjusts ride height. It's a shame that they didn't give us damping adjustments for front and rear.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Preload does adjust ride height but also is used to compress or uncompress the spring into its ideal area of operation, which in turn makes it feel softer or firmer.

    • @The.JZA.
      @The.JZA. 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EnglishBikerDan I won’t argue with your logic but if you have your preload/ride height set correctly then your suspension should be operating mid stroke anyway. Once you have your ride height set correctly, which everyone should do regardless of comfort due to steering geometry etc, then the only way to soften suspension at that point is to either reduce high speed compression damping and/or move to a softer spring.

    • @Englishbikerdan
      @Englishbikerdan  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@The.JZA. I cannot argue with your logic either. Not many will go to the effort of getting their suspension set for their weight either (sag etc) but it's definitely worth it! In the case of this bike, it just has a hard spring but lowering the preload does help in the particular case of it seeming a little better in town. However then you might not be at mid stroke and actually limiting what the suspension can do in other areas. Long story short, leave it as it is once it's setup for your weight. Thanks for the comments!

    • @Elscroftz
      @Elscroftz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello there,
      I've test-ridden both of those bikes (did the CB650R yesterday), and I can fairly ensure you that the feeling you get to experience on the CB has nothing to do with the MT07's. Don't get me wrong, the Yamaha is an amazing bike as well, but when it comes to overall performance & driver's comfort, Honda gets the prize here. I personally love the 4-cylinder sound and the sort of gradual power you get from it. Besides, the Honda has a pretty decent amount of torque, so you definitely won't get bored in the low to mid ranges of revs.
      In conclussion, a 2-cylinder bike like the Yamaha MT07 is a big option for someone who enjoys that super-torquey feeling when riding and the "rough" sound that produces her exhaust, plus the mega-pull you can get when you open it up on second or third gear. However, it was certainly not designed for me and the Honda proved me everything I wanted on a bike: elegance, muscle, power, decent torque, sound and a super quality-built motorcylcle that can last you for decades.
      Hope it helped! Regards.

    Have bought in the same colour. The bike was great on the test ride, brilliant light clutch, good fuelling and nice mid-range. It's worth every penny over the cost of an MT07 or SV650. To my eye it just looks and feels that bit more premium, not to mention the better spec.

    • @Braselton21
      @Braselton21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It will actually cost you less than a MT07. The MT07 is like a Tuner Car. You'll never see one stock. So in the end you'll end up spending a lot modifying the bike because it has endless amounts of awesome parts :D Pretty much depends on what type of sound you enjoy :)

    • @karlosh9286
      @karlosh9286 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The CB650R looks pretty good, better than the SV650 and MT07. The trellis frame on the SV really doesn't appeal to me, and the MT-07 I find a bit ugly. I'm sure they're all good bikes, but looks are so subjective. The XSR700 doesn't look too bad.
      I think I'm going to get a Triumph Street Twin . Not as powerful as any of the aforementioned bikes, but I just think the Triumph's look so pretty and sound so awesome. At my riding ability, I probably don't need more than 64BHP !
      But the prettiest bike for me is probably the Ducati Panigale, doubt I'll be able to afford one of those ever, or even ride it to anywhere near it's abilities. Also the seating position on a sports bike would probably cripple me !

      I owned a FZ-07 for about a year- and after coming from inline 4 sport bikes like an R6, GSXR 600, etc, I thought the FZ would be pleasing enough all around. It was for the most part, but when you are going 60-70~ mph and twist the throttle, it felt slower than I wanted or at least had been used to from previous bikes. It is a fun bike and easy to handle no question, but I sold it knowing I really wanted more in the top end when I asked for it. The CB650R seems to satisfy both ends of neo-cafe style accompanied with gushy power from the low to the top end. And being a Yamaha lover, I think Honda has got the blue company beat in the style category. The headlight, the headers, and overall profile and just simple and stunning.

      yep 7 grand its ok, but still need some safety things like sliders and crashbars +500 $ and fuel tank sticker :) i already order crashbars 200 $ quite expensive

      Sliders and engine protection from R&G is around £210. Well worth it though.

    Once I get my driver's license, I'll hopefully get my motorcycle permit and then start riding motorcycles and eventually get this bike! Maybe I'll start a TH-cam channel and call myself AmericanBikerDan

    Hello Dan . You said you have a Honda CB500X. Is the CB650R for weekends, or any situations where you prefer to jump on the CB500X? I,’m commuting 14 miles country, then 12 miles town each way every day on a Sh300 scooter, so want to go back to a big bike. Not sure if this will be too much in traffic for an hour each day

    Great review! Would you rather have the mt07 or the cb650r, especially as a first bike?
