Have you ever dreamed of living in a castle? Well this fortified stone tower on the top of a mountain is about as close as you’re going to get. Today we’re exploring The Keep in Tasmania’s North East and it’s unlike any other I’ve ever seen. Perched upon a 650 metre rocky pinnacle this three storey house turned luxury accommodation has to be seen to be believed.
The word 'Keep' means to hold or protect and traditionally Keeps were built as a type of fortified tower by European nobility. They were built within castles during the Middle Ages and used as a refuge or last resort should the rest of the castle fall to enemies. This building does not claim that history but it was its inspiration, it was built in the mid 2000s and in recent years has opened as luxury accommodation. Designed by Jo Woodbury, the keep has been designed to withstand cyclonic winds which are common in the area and features a strikingly minimalist design that sits boldly in its environment.

Definitely a one of a kind unique home. Two thumbs up.😊
A fabulous inspirational house !!! .. and congratulations on the coming baby !!🥰🥰
I love the view from the kitchen. It's amazing and spectacular. Anyways , congratulations Lucy and Johnno.
What a unique and incredible build. So well done. Love the stark contrast between the exterior and interior. And those large, square windows off the back; they really are a treat. Well done.
Congratulations🎉🥳👏 on future new role.. Happy for you 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much 🤗

Thanks!
Once you said you not touching he whisky it all came together, super joyed for you, congratulations.
You summed it up perfectly: beautiful and brutal at the same time. One would have to really adore one's partner to be able to stay there so far from civilization!
Spec Swearword Tacular . Out of this world Unique.
P.S. Congrats Wink Wink. I Love you Lucy.
Love from Canada
Amazing location and fascinating design.
Such a unique place!
My wife and I are big fans, congrats on the baby bump!
Thanks!
Love those big stones near the house!
Amazing and beautiful place
The view is priceless
very nice
Wow. This is the type of design I was looking for years ago. My requirements have changed, but this is a beautiful dwelling!
Shame they couldn't make use of the roof as a patio area, that would have been epic!
For those wondering $1250 a night
And congrats on the new family member guys.
Interesting house. The most important big 3 windows on the top floor don't open, do they? The third one on the right seems to have a condensation problem. How are they cleaned from the outside and maintained this high up?
There’s not one part of that home you could do better, absolutely stunning. Thank you for the tour.
I think the kitchen cabinets and the landscaping around the driveway need a lot of change in my opinion
@@mrg0th1er83 sorry I wasn’t asking for your opinion
@@CMReid that’s ok. No one was asking for yours either. Yet here we are.
Just a reminder, this area of Tasmania is subject to serious and extreme weather conditions - gale force winds, sunny for an hour or so, then driving rain., snow for many months of the year. Any plantings or landscaping would not last 1 day! That's the beauty of this gorgeous part of the world. It is like no other and milder climate considerations just don't work here! Hat off to the owners - a superb example of the best of Tassie. - environment and craftsmanship. Thank you too to Lucy and Jonno.@@mrg0th1er83
Being in such a remote location. how are its utilities (electric, gas for the cooker, water, etc.) supplied?
Hi there.
The property is completely off-grid, so solar provides the electricity, and there is gas for heating and cooking. Water is provided pure Tasmanian rain!
Cheers,
Sue

@@suestagg2699absolutely beautiful 🤩
The kitchen was a lost opportunity in my opinion. It should have echoed the style of that bar cabinet. Also, it needs indestructible shutters for all those windows to truly be a keep. But otherwise...wow! What a place!
Good one. although, would like to know the implications during a lightning thunderstorm
Every time I see you guys is like a beautiful day ! You guys are gorgeous. The quality of videos, the story when you present a home, the joy you both have is fantastic, not to mention the locations you present :) ... f a b u l o u s! All your videos are mindblowing and a true inspiration for me. This planet definitely needs more Lucy's and Jonno's! Love you guys! ❤
I believed I got why you are not drinking liquor these days ...Congrats guys 🙂
Thanks!
Bendeki bütün guzel hisleri barındırdı❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🙌
Kind of the Tower I would rescue my Princess from. By moving in.
However it might sound😂
What are the dimensions of the building. Height, width?
Love the house. Not so keen on the dark colours personally.
👌
Where did they get electricity?
Hello,
We are completely off-grid, so use solar for electricity and gas for heating and cooking.
Cheers,
Sue

@@suestagg2699 Hi, thanks for reply. House is amazing!
wow📟🏔
I think it needs a creeper/climber on the facade to soften its brutalist appearance.
Honestly I absolutely hate this one, and I say that reluctantly because usually everything on this channel is stunning but also in isolation I love the style. But being in such a beautiful setting this stands out like a sore thumb. It's completely unsympathetic to it's landscape.
I'm a bit over brutalism. And all the grey would be depressing.
Unfortunate, as the location is stunning.
Although this beautiful old stone building has been turned into something "high end", they've destroyed the best qualities of the gorgeous building and site in the process. There is a way to renovate old stone buildings which makes them contemporary and livable but does not destroy the essential qualities of them. Sad for me to see this reno, what a shame.
Hi there. The Keep was inspired by an old style design of a Scottish keep but the building is actually less than 10 years old. 🙂
It's a newish build. Inspired by the old style. We think they've done a good job.
Nothing to rave about I have a 2 story beach front home
Love the home, but not so much the location. Heaven help you if you need a doctor or hospital quickly
🍼
I am sorry but in that location You need big windows all around the house, I would have a glass house up there, but most importantly how many of you perverts pause the video at 2:20? 😂
Would be difficult to go bigger given the winds. It would likely breech the structural integrity and building codes.
@@sharonrose3871 I did think about the wind, but at the same time I thought it wouldn’t be that bad and given the building techniques we have these days maybe it would have been possible to put more glass but since they live so far away from everyone who knows how much that would cost
Dosent appeal to me
Lucy...pregnant???
