Spent the first 18 years living by the sea in the Devon countryside. Now I’m 19 and at uni in London. Completely relate to wanting the balance between a social city life and being back home with no one around.
Why anyone would long for a shithole city life in comparison to beautiful Devon is beyond me. I've lived in a city for 59 years and I can't wait to get out of it!
Im not sure how well known this is, but the song of wandering aengus is a breathtakingly beautiful poem by W.B Yeats
Yeah and Johnny is a fan of Yeats, so I’m not surprised. And if you look at the lyrics, it was actually inspired by the poem

Christy Moore sings an excellent version of The Song of Wandering Aengus
I love this because this girls' story is so relatable. She's longing for connection in her everyday life (thus the guy with the beard), but at the same time she only feels truly happy, herself, and unrestrained, when she's by herself, daydreaming in her own little world. Johnny keeps coming to sit with her there but she never acknowledges him - we don't get to know if she ever finds somebody who understands her enough to join her in her own little world...but we can keep hoping :)

Tommy Glee This is my favourite Yeats poem. The last verse especially. Johnny Flynn manages to be both in the cast of evocative poets like Yeats, but also completely individual in his rhythm of both rhyme and song. I am listening to no-one else at present. When I hear him sing I am in a lost age.
