Maybe it's just me but I feel like the market for masculine, non conventionally attractive female leads in games isn't as big as the video game industry thinks it is
it's fine though, they are bringing sexy back. people are now begging for hot people again, where as before no one was. we wont have ugly leads for a while
that argument infuriated me with the stellar blade bunny suit. "why are you complaining about the censorship of something so insignificent?" WHY WAS IT CENSORED IN THE FIRST PLACE, IF ITS SO INSIGNIFICENT?
You know, for people who constantly talk about how "Everyone's sexual attractions should be respected" these Bluesky feminists sure do get pissed off a lot when people are sexually attracted to hot women.
You're making a logical argument against emotional thinkers. What you say makes them feel bad, therefore it is wrong. If they thought over felt they'd not be what they are.
you know what sucks though, who isn't? make everyone happy. The men, the straight gas-your-bff-up-women, the lesbians. Yo, everyone wants a hot lady on the screen. The only ones mad about it are... i dunno... probably unhappy about every aspect of their lives
I Love Fishing more than Asmongold, Moist Charlie, and all their followers! 2024 December 15th. I am playing dragon quest 3 remake for the first time in my life. And I am 33 years old. 😅
"when people are sexually attracted to hot women." This is wrong. Only when men are attracted to hot women. They are fine with lesbians staring and glaring.
“Realistic” doesn’t even mean ugly. Game devs are going out of their way to make UGLY characters. They are mocapping actresses and then intentionally making the character uglier. You can have realistic characters that are still pleasant to look at, and also attractive, without being half naked (not that there’s anything wrong with the former)
This.. there are plenty of guy actors that aren’t attractive at all.. but peopel really love them.. Steve Bucemi is one of them.. he is so talented.. has a unique face.. ther eis only one in the world.. a face with character is not the same as making someone ugly asf to be “ real” 100%. Even side show freaks, aren’t really ugly.. to say reality is ugly.. just shows how distorted these people are with their definitions.
I'm an old female gamer (I started on Atari, lol). I knew we always existed, but representation didn't matter to me. Game play did. I use games to escape the drudgery of everyday life. So why would I want to play a game that injects that everyday into something I use to escape from it? Also, it's not just guys that gravitate towards hot characters. I would spend hours in WoW character creation designing the hottest BE female. In fact, if allowed, I usually choose to play female characters and NONE of them are ugly, or fat, or masculine. Also, let's not pretend that we don't keep a cosmetic "hot body summer" outfit just because our character looks hot in it and not because of the stats. IMO, if you say this isn't you, you're probably a tourist.
Lost Ark already showed that too. I mean look at GW2 NEARLY everyone has cosmetics of some kind to make them look cool, epic, edgy, hot and attractive.
I absolutely agree 100%. I do the same thing, why would I play a character that has cellulite, pimples, etcetc. I wanna ESCAPE reality when I'm playing not jump right back into it! My FFXIV is hot AF and when I played WoW I had an ARMY of hot BEs, the more naked the better!
Nah...I remember people cried about the woman in " returnal" I thought she looked realistic and because she looked like everyday people I see I felt like I was taking her more serious. She WAS relatable to me. Male dominated field( I work on fighter jets)..middle aged mom..wasn't walking around with quadruple d's and SUPER attractive. She felt somewhat normal.
I’m a woman, and I want to play as an attractive woman and feel like I’m that woman. If she’s not attractive, it sours the gameplay experience for me, because I feel unattractive enough as it is every day.
This is my issue, I've always wanted to play Ciri, loved her character and her look and that she physically can't become a Witcher so she has to find her own way. This isn't Ciri it's just Geralt but less handsome...
@@VioletDeathRei Yeah it would have been cool if it was her doing her own thing rather that mirroring Geralt which makes you think how much better he would have handled each situation.
This is why I respect Nomura. Apparently, the reason why he designs his main characters cool and or beautiful, is because back in highschool, his friend or classmate said "Why do I have to be ugly even when I'm playing a game?" . Which is fair in my opinion. I'm already ugly in real life, atleast make me cool inside a video game lmao. So that's why we have cool and beautiful Final Fantasy Characters. It's thanks to that classmate. Edit: Yeah, I still think Ciri looks fine in Witcher 4 even compared to her Witcher 3 counterpart. She just grew older. I don't think she's ugly, she can step on me.
It’s simple really. These game devs try to make games for everyone but it is statistically and factually impossible to satisfy every single person being targeted with said product. If it’s hard enough to meet the expectations of long standing fans, imagine how much harder it is when trying to incorporate a mentality of reaching as many people as possible and ironically losing most of them in the process. Out of touch is an understatement at that point.
“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time.” ― Abraham Lincoln
my theory: wokes want to destroy the two frontlines that men like: badass men and beautiful women. They want to destroy our childhood heroes like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Indiana Jones, Luke, Kratos, etc. and turn them into losers or assholes. And they also want to destroy the female characters that we found hot, so that we can't "own" them, that's why hot characters became lesbians, like Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy, or Lara Croft, who lost her attributes, if that. understand me. If they had the opportunity, Chun Li would be a lesbian too, so that, in their minds, she would no longer be a possession of men.
Okay but you people are also the ones saying "just make you own games/ characters" and when they do y'all still cry saying shit like "muh she's bald this game is trash".
@@E2J25 Oh you're still going to get shit on no matter what, especially when you do laughable things. Welcome to life. Don't get me wrong, it was far better that Concord was it's own game but the issue still persists where things like Star Wars are still ruined, Assassins Creed and many, many, many more.
We're allowed to criticize games as much as we want. It's a free country. But what you should NOT do is call people misogynistic sexist bigoted a..holes for not buying your game, which is what you people do EVERY SINGLE TIME
@E2J25 here's the thing, I'm completely fine with Intergalactic, just like I was fine with Concord. If you wanna make a trash game, please do it with your own property and let it die in a ditch somewhere, don't fuck up a beloved franchise. However, this doesn't make the games immune from criticism. We still critique the games that follows our ideals, why would we not critique the ones that don't? We're telling them why they're failing yet they don't wanna listen. I do it purely for the sake of going "I told you so".
In a RPG or similar type of game they tend to be the unserious comic relief which is honestly bad for a MC to be especially in the Witcher series. Where “there is no good or bad. Only choices and consequences” I also have a feeling intergalactic is going to be more about the spaceship she pilots more than her actual character but I could be wrong.
Except for years nerds weren't, that's why we had the 2000s. Idk if I'd call a lot of these people nerds making AAA games these days, maybe dorks instead.
They don't hate handsome people, they just don't like what they see in the mirror, and don't want to be out done. Guys, gals, and gays all like attractive characters...we all know who does not.
Hillarious situation. Along with celebs, wich task is only to intertain, but for unknown reason they started to push agenda, game companies also participate in this marathon of craziness.
Not only the companies and their community managers but a bunch of useful tools are already defending CDPR and gaslighting us with "What? I can't see a difference with W3 Ciri and W4 Ciri! She just looks a little older! Besides it's just a cinematic trailer! You bigots!"
Intergalactic's gonna be a disaster we all know it. Even if the gameplay trailer is out to show us what we can do and how it plays, if we cannot modify/change/create our own character then it ain't gonna work. And we all know that the dialogue ain't gonna save it either, we know exactly how it will go and it's gonna be SW : Outlaw level of dialogue. Video games company have to understand that the majority of gamers are white men, and white men like to play either badass/cool looking male characters or pretty/hot women (when we can't chose), so forcing those same gamers to play as a Bald "mid" androgynous lesbian zoomer looking woman, you ain't gonna reach anything big and receive backlash, it's normal. And about Ciri tbh she looks fine, better than most of the previous female MCs we had in western games recently, so i don't understand the problem with her, besides the fact that some Witcher fans are confused about how she became a Witcher and how she managed to drink a potion without either dying or having a very bad case of Diarrhea. The explanation for that will probably be told in the game and probably a few years has past since Witcher 3.
2 Peter 3 King James Version 3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance: 2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: 3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
@@demgphixIf I can't relate then I can't immerse myself in the story because from my point of view I don't understand the character. "People I want to be around" does not mean "only people I want to sleep with", there's this thing called friends and nice acquaintances.
Why not purposefully design hideous cars? Why not purposefully design hideous houses? Why not purposefully design hideous clothes? Why not purposefully prepare disgusting looking food? Hmmm... guys, i think they may be trying to BS us...
@JN-hs5xl You can't be serious. You think the team that designed that car was ACTUALLY going for hideous? Or were they talentless hacks? BTW, how's that selling? Is that aesthetic model something that should be followed? Should it be replicated in video games? They're trying to scam us, again.
Not only we want to see hot characters as main leads, we want to see characters with cool and interesting DESIGNS. Usually the characters that are butt ugly also lack in they re overall design. Look at concord, all characters were ugly and had 0 drip
interesting designs example: Samus, everyone except actual bigots loves samus not because she is sexy (though that can be a factor) but because she is cool as fuck
Believe it when I say: *No one who is behind this activism, would truly want a partner that is not **_"conveniently"_** attractive.* They just mean *attractive* but you knew that of course.
yeah, I have never seen a female gamer who's totally fine with an overweight, balding, middle-aged man as the main character in a game. Why being unattractive should be normalized for women at all cost while it is never the case for men?
@@Marcus-ss4gn Bro, scroll down at the clips channel and when you see a masculine white haired buff man, stop and click on that video, women do in fact care about how men looks in game. It’s just that making bad looking man do not show the values these game devs want to their audience.
Totally agree. I'm much more liberal than I am conservative, but I'm always so confused by the existence of a social movement to do "ugly people" representation. It's one thing to dial back on sexualization of women if that's been excessive, but as long as humans exist we have a biological bias towards attractive people, and find ugly people strongly unappealing to look at. To constantly make female lead characters in video game look so hideous is only going to drive people away from your cause. There's a large gulf between "character I can goon to" and "hideous", there's a middle ground that we can gun for, even if we think sexualization is bad.
As a gay guy, I find weird how many games have ugly female characters. Because, when when we talk about media (games, manga, movies, etc) made to a gay audience, the characters always have characteristics that please this specific gay audience. Skinny, fat, strong, hairy, muscle, whatever shape that gives this audience the feeling that the creator is making something that is appealing. When it is for general audiences, in a market that has a majority of heterosexual guys, the logic should be the same: make attractive female characters that please the desires and fantasies of the audience. It's not problematic, it's how art works: you give to people what people want.
I can neither relate to the character as a male, nor can I enjoy the looks of the character. Their personalities are also often awful, and they are mary sue'd unto completion. Why should I, as a person who enjoys games, buy a game while playing as such a character? Because they tell me I am misogynist if I do not? The virtue signal blame grift isn't working anymore. If they want to spread a weird message. They can enjoy not having my money.
They've decided attractive women are unrealistic and liking them is immoral You will see people loudly proclaim their preferences for masculine, unappealing or older women, while viciously attacking anyone who likes anything else (typically with p3do accusations)
ciri was my favorite character, one of best all time. my problem is they changed her voice to some weird one, and she changed her looks, especially she changed parts of her face that dont change with age. also in w3 she was quite friendly and good character to be around, in w4 she was all grumpy and angry and overall unfriendly facial expressions. I wouldnt even care if she wanst my favorite char in w3, or she wasnt main character same with TLOU1 vs TLOU2, 1 was nice story, 2 was just angry and overly negative story
The changes in her personality/behaviour are a consequence of her undergoing the trials of grasses. But I understand you not liking that they took her character in that direction.
Ciri seems very jaded from what little we can see. The change in personality is understandable, well, because the life of a Witcher is not an easy one to say the least.
People who play games have learned to recognize patterns, and if they spot one they usually anticipate it to be seen throughout the rest of the game as well. If you obtain a new item in a Zelda game, you better believe the next hour or so will be themed around it, with it later on being required here and there as well. Hinting at something being a core theme and then villifying anyone pointing it out or even asking about it is not the great move some studios seem to think it is. The same goes with going against the canon you've built up during years of work that have caught the attention and interest of fans. The way a lot of recent games seem to "correct" previous itterations of their lore/characters only ends up telling those who liked the previous works that what they liked was bad to the degree that it had to be changed and never mentioned again.
I was commenting on r/witcher4 asking simple questions like: Why are they retconing lore? Why does Ciri need to be a fully fledged witcher when she already has other powers? One guy responded having a mental breakdown about how we just hate female leads and we should leave them alone to enjoy the game. These people are NPCs, they have zero critical thinking. They're just told what to feel and think and anything that pushes the capacity of their tiny brain makes them behave like infants.
@@VarthalabauHairLeaving him alone to enjoy his game is fine but if he replied to your comment criticising your view as being rooted in misogyny despite you saying otherwise then it’s wrong on his part
as a polish person, sometimes i feel like america is the worst thing that ever happened to the witcher universum. we don't have this DEI or identity politics stuff in Poland, and our beloved books and games were taken away from us, first the horrible Netflix adaptation, and now everybody projects american problems onto polish developers. i really wish Witcher haven't got the recognition in America but i guess it's too late now
We've now got to the point where it isn't just about the ugly character any more. Ugly characters are now associated with an ideology which hates the us, has animosity towards us, and actively tries to hurt us in the real world, so now we have another reason for wanting to see the game tank spectacularly, regardless of whether the gameplay is good or not. Pretty characters are now seen as an act of rebellion against those who demonise us in the real world.
Ciri looks great. Passes the silhouette test easily. And as a matter of fact. I believe that the second character in Intergalactic also passes the silhouette test. She just didn't pass the lights on test...
Erik Kain of Forbes had a great article about Ciri in Witcher 4 outlining how the character has been radically altered, looking unrecognizably different now. If they just normally aged Ciri from Witcher 3, people would have been excited for the trailer. Instead, we have to ask why CDPR decided to deliberately alter her character.
Most women like playing as hot female characters in video games. Idk why the developers at Naughty Dog thought a bald manly woman would help sell their game and grow their company.
Because they’re not doing hot characters for market preferences and instead focus on storytelling. People are shitting on this character for no reason and they don’t even know her story.
Idk why they can't just let us have at least the most basic character creation at this point. It's not going to break the bank, and as we've seen plenty a time before...they have no trouble wasting money on stupid decisions in these AAA games anyway.
@@PizzaSiu07 So you're banking on the story relating to her looks? Like she's going through chemo or something, and that's why she looks like that? That's a pretty big assumption to justify their design choice.
What pisses me off is the reason why studios make ugly characters. They dont want to appel to the "male gaze" so they they make ugly character on purpouse. So that meas that they are antagonistic towards their own audience
They make female characters but make them have all male characteristics - No bum, lots of muscles, shaved head, tall, and wide shoulders. Just make a man at that point
Ciri was the obvious choice as the main character of the Witcher 4 for anyone with any common sense. Geralt's got the most satisfying and conclusive ending to his story after officially retiting and passing the torch at the end of Blood and Wine, that's a fact. I don't think the Ciri in the trailer is not attractive enough but they did age her in a weird way. It's like they gave her old pictures to an AI and asked "age her 30 years but with plastic surgery".
@@SerenitydeployedA chick was the main character for The last of us part 2 and I didn’t think it was woke at all and I enjoyed it very much. 'It's not that big a deal' - the people that went to great lengths to change video game design and character design to align with their personal beliefs against the majority opinion
The book series also switches main character a lot also, from geralt to ciri and back and forth a few times, so the change after geralt retiring makes sense, hell probably just come back in another game after we're done following ciri for a few games, like in the books.
I am just tired Asmon. The same people everybody avoided in highschool, university now are somehow dictating the framework of relations and communication. It‘s not about a character, it‘s about an overt collusion of intent that normal 90% of people oppose. Noone wants stuff like pronouns, masculine women etc in real life but somehow they force that onto us with every release. Having the 1% represent themselves more than 99% of people is the real missmatch here. They don‘t just make Veilguard for them, they want the whole gaming industry to be like that and for us to buy it, despite it not being made for us. Imagine someone forcing you to eat something you don‘t like, now imagine „you“ are 99% of people how that would be. This rejection is the result of their social „oppression“.
This is what happens if you dont get a reality check and get away with the bs you create everytime. They rather use the crappy sale numbers to call players homophobic instead of making something that players really enjoy they are insane

Well to be fair I still don’t think it’s about characters being hot / good looking. But they gotta have something cool going for them at least. The entergalactic chick just looks bland and not feminine at all
There is no reality I wanted Laura Croft to look manly. Who does that appeal to???? She was fine, is fine and dies fine. People IRL are born with her design and if they wanna go on adventures let them 🙄 The brainwashing of “attractive characters don’t fight battles like this” is old. They pretend IRL hot people are like unicorns or big foot...pretty sure they exist lol
It always makes me laugh when people say that beauty doesn’t matter as a standard. Tell that to a single career artist born before the 20th century and they’d ask you to stop insulting them.

@@jessekoepp3928 You're missing the point. Nathan is inspired by Lara and Indie. He's not replacing either of them, nor was he designed to. Replacing Lara with some guy in her own series is what OP meant.
@kakun723 the loremaster is still there... ummm, well then how did Ciri as an adult woman become a Witcher then? What an idiotic thing to assert when the biggest issue from the trailer has been over the breaking of the lore.
It's a big issue that has ruined movies, shows, video games, and any media basically. Nobody was even thinking about this a decade ago, people would play a woman, a man, weird creatures, cars, whatever... As long as the games were written and designed well, then whatever type of character you played actually fit the game. Now games are designed around the identity of the playable character and it all just becomes dull, annoying and like they're preaching some ideology.
@@Ims18 Funny thing there is he was paid to make his character look as close to himself as possible, and then it became a thing for people to use his model and throw it into the brine.
I understand how we've gotten here and people's grievances up until this point, but I feel like people - who I would largely consider to be on my side of things typically - are being incredibly mean-spirited in regards to Ciri the character, and Tati Gabrielle. The latter is especially sad to see, because it feels like people are doing the same to Tati as what the other side did to Shin Jae-eun when she provided the base for Eve's character design in Stellar Blade. It wasn't that long ago we had all these creeps saying that Eve's character design is disgusting because "women don't look like that" and because it's "unnatural," and we recognised and criticised how nasty, mean-spirited and just all around disrespectful that is to Shin Jae-eun. Except now we're doing that to Tati Gabrielle as well, calling her ugly? It'd be one thing if they'd have used Tati as a base for the character but then went out of their way to give her that weird uncanny valley look that we've been taking issue with lately, changing her completely because it's like they do this kind of thing on purpose and it's weird, and this is completely 100% a valid criticism, still. Except this character in that new ND game looks 1:1 like the actor she's based off. They didn't uglify her, and the actor isn't ugly herself. I find her to be rather beautiful, to be honest. I also recognised her instantly as Tati Gabrielle the moment I saw her (and honestly, because I like her as an actor, it made me intrigued for the game, so yes, there is bias here on my part to an extent.) But even upon learning that this is a real person, people are still doubling and quadrupling down on the idea that Tati herself is ugly, and I just find this to be mean for - at this point, given that we know nothing about the game, and nothing about the actor - no real reason. It just comes across like people are being mean and angry for the sake of being mean and angry. Is it likely that the game will turn out to be dogwater? Sure. I don't really expect it to be good for a number of reasons. How Tati looks as a real, flesh and blood person isn't among those reasons.
i still have no clue why the modern gaming industry absolutely despises attractive women. this is plainly misogynist and hypocritical of the "tolerant left".
Mankind does prefer ICONs, better people, healthy people to look up to. Seeing something negative , bad, ugly or lower value is disappointing. Therefore people leav it alone or try to destroy it. Rightfully so
Yes. This has been the case since the dawn of time -- even in the ancient days when fictional stories were passed down, ALL of them were heroic and iconic. Even the Greek tragedies were still very aspirational, using tales of warning and folly for man to avoid, but still provided plenty of heroic moments and encouragement. The only historical chronicles of man that were not really heroic were the Bible, with the exception of Jesus. Almost everybody in there had tragic, flawed, terrible lives and mostly anti-climatic endings (with the exceptions of Elijah and Enoch, they got the most epic endings anyone could ever ask for).
What happened to "The Customer is always right"?? 10 years ago there is no way the marketing department could get away with creating something that directly insults their demographic. Now it is common practice for the people that run marketing and social media for companies to just insult and call out/distance themselves from the very people that buy their products and the share holders and higher ups just clap their hands like its actually working out for them.. Such a confusing time.
Please use the *full* expression: The customer is always right, *when it comes to matters of taste* . It makes a hundred times more sense when you use the full version. The shortened one is kinda absurd tbh.
The best way I can describe an ugly protagonist is like food. The food can have the most delicious "to die for" taste ever, but if it looks repulsive, *a lot* of people are not gonna eat it.
Funny how those people will still gaslight themselves into believing that the game is going to be a success then fails and fails to realize why it fails and blames on the consumer. I doubt that Intergalactic will be a net loss, but people are now starting to stay away from DEI games so it's not like it's farfetched.
What's interesting about that bit about the gender barrier and relatability is that it absolutely applies to the people who are claiming that it doesn't. The reason that you replace the male character in the first place with a female character is because you don't relate to the white male character and you relate more to the non-binary female character

I havent finished the video but I just want to say this: Anyone who played witcher 3 to the end knew that Ciri was gonna be the lead (or at least a 60/40 lead) in Witcher 4. This isn't a suprise. Everyone knew this was happening, and if the announcement was in 2019 nobody would mind. Back to the video lol.
I mean, in my game, Ciri became the empress of nilfgaard. I knew Geralt retired, so he wouldn't be the protagonist, but it definitely wasn't clear to me they were going to ignore the players' choices that determined Ciri's fate.
There are plenty of awesome games with a female lead. The difference is having vs not having identity politics inserted as the focus instead of a story or mechanics.
@crappyaccount try not to sound like a sexist. Ever play Tomb Raider, Resident Evil, Horizon Zero Dawn, Bayonetta, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Odyssey, and Vahalla? How about Alien Isolation, Mirrors Edge, or Metriod? I am sure there is more.

What is the need to further destroy a high standard? Who benefits? If one wants to demonstrate ugliness, what is the lesson being imparted?"
If game devs want ugly characters, make them the villains. Keep the main characters attractive. I want to play and be looking at an attractive character. I’d still prefer a hot villain for more eye candy but I care much more about the looks of the character I’m playing than side characters and bad guys.

I think you missed the point of beauty appreciation. While it is obvious that people like beauty and art, we also like ugly characters. The biggest problem here is the VOLUNTARY uglification of characters and, by contrast, the lashing out to the people that say those are ugly. The point I am trying to make is that everyon of us is selfconscious of our beauty or lack of it and it pisses us off massively when an ugly character behaves or is pushed as beautiful while ugly. If CDPR said:"Yes, Ciri lost her beauty, because the world of witchers is hard and painful, you will see her story". We would all have shut up because there is no denying she was a beauty and life changed her for some reason. We deeply hate people that lash at us for saying someone is ugly because we are stupid/phobic instead of saying simply that this character is not beautiful and that is why she or he is the protagonist and the story would flush that out. We all loved Abe's Odyssey, we all love Wario. Beauty is not the point, the fact producers want to accept that beauty is not real and ugliness is beauty is what makes us fume.
A big problem you're omitting is the uglification of previous non-ugly characters. Fans of that franchise take that personally. Why would they care for the current artist's vision if they liked the previous artist's vision better? The uglification of previous depicted characters in *never* going to land well, even if the artist's vision is in good faith (which most of the time, it isn't).
Not everyone fits into the box of hyper-feminine or hyper-masculine. Do you expect a bounty hunter or a Witcher to be hyper feminine? They can still be beautiful and not overly feminine. Maybe their strength makes them more badass/hot? This is all subjective
Asmon, gotta say, as a woman I really enjoy your content. Big respect for not jumping on the hate bandwagon about The Witcher 4 having Ciri as the lead. Honestly, I was lowkey worried you’d go all “female lead bad” but you kept it fair and I respect the hell out of that. Totally agree about character design too. Like, if I’m playing as a female character, yeah, I want her to look good. Nothing wrong with that. On the relatability thing, though, I feel like gender doesn’t really matter. I’ve played so many games as male characters and still felt super connected to the story. It’s about the writing more than the gender. And now there are so many women in gaming now. We’re pretty much 50/50 at this point. But I understand how people can have a different opinion or experience on this. Also when are you playing Infinity Nikki?
I'm just gonna say this: I bought Nier:Automata on release cause I saw a video of a demo and really liked how 2B looked. It's incredible how some games that are made to make money fail in doing the basic in marketing.
This is just a theory, but I wonder if the people that used to push back on bad design decisions because they truly wanted to create a better product out of love for their work, now are the "I'm just here for a paycheck" people. There's been a strong cultural shift to "quiet quitting" after covid, and I don't see why it wouldn't also be taking place in the games industry. In large AAA studios, people could get away with this because there are so many levels of management, its probably difficult to find a specific person at fault and get rid of them.
Just like how I do fitness to stay loooking good, buy a car or PC hardware that looks aesthetically pleasing. Looking good is the biggest draw in life for all products and yourself. If everyone had a choice. Everyone would want to look like a supermodel. That's fact. And people do not want ugly in videogames unless it is ugly villains.
Dude, Geralt'a face changed all the time from game to game and trailer to trailer. It's bloody normal, and she still looks like a damn top model. Take your rage to shit that's actually ugly like that Intergalactic dude.

Steve Bucemi is one of them.. he is so talented.. has a unique face.. ther eis only one in the world.. a face with character is not the same as making someone ugly asf to be “ real”
100%. Even side show freaks, aren’t really ugly.. to say reality is ugly.. just shows how distorted these people are with their definitions.
Death Stranding is a good example of this, as well as MGS V. Both have realistic characters that are still attractive.
Agree with this take, but also here to say I love your pfp.
Games are not pornography.
The girl from intergalactic isn't ugly she just shaved her head. Also the girl from the Witcher wasn't ugly either.
100% facts. Women go HARD in FF14 on making their female characters hot/cute/etc, nobody ever makes them ugly.
Lost Ark already showed that too. I mean look at GW2 NEARLY everyone has cosmetics of some kind to make them look cool, epic, edgy, hot and attractive.
@@DarkXessZ My guildy who swipes the hardest on cosmetics is a woman, go figure.
Sweet Baby Inc involvement is a good sign of staying away from those games. Doesn't matter if it's a female or male MC.
Imagine if steam added a filter for that in the store. lolololol
I’m a woman, and I want to play as an attractive woman and feel like I’m that woman. If she’s not attractive, it sours the gameplay experience for me, because I feel unattractive enough as it is every day.
What you find attractive is personal. I am a woman and cannot relate to overly feminine women. So bet it, who cares?
This is my issue, I've always wanted to play Ciri, loved her character and her look and that she physically can't become a Witcher so she has to find her own way.
This isn't Ciri it's just Geralt but less handsome...
Yeah I play video games to be someone I'm not
You are beautiful, don't worry.
@@VioletDeathRei Yeah it would have been cool if it was her doing her own thing rather that mirroring Geralt which makes you think how much better he would have handled each situation.
There's nothing wrong with wanting attractive female characters in your video games.
Yes, but it is wrong to hate not having them all attractive and in all of the video games
Yeah but the MC in the witcher 4 isn't even ugly AT ALL. She's actually quite attractive so its hilarious that people are complaining.
but wanting ugly ones is?
That's right.
there is smth wrong with being on yt for this long
This is why I respect Nomura.
When I make a custom character in any game, she’s always as hot as possible. If I wanted to play a basic chick, I’d walk outside.
😂😂😂
It’s simple really. These game devs try to make games for everyone but it is statistically and factually impossible to satisfy every single person being targeted with said product. If it’s hard enough to meet the expectations of long standing fans, imagine how much harder it is when trying to incorporate a mentality of reaching as many people as possible and ironically losing most of them in the process. Out of touch is an understatement at that point.
I liked the humour, but it ain't true.

my theory: wokes want to destroy the two frontlines that men like: badass men and beautiful women.
LOL... ok.

However, this doesn't make the games immune from criticism. We still critique the games that follows our ideals, why would we not critique the ones that don't? We're telling them why they're failing yet they don't wanna listen. I do it purely for the sake of going "I told you so".
I almost feel like the people who want a ugly mc are the people who hate handsome people irl.
In a RPG or similar type of game they tend to be the unserious comic relief which is honestly bad for a MC to be especially in the Witcher series. Where “there is no good or bad. Only choices and consequences”
I also have a feeling intergalactic is going to be more about the spaceship she pilots more than her actual character but I could be wrong.

2 Peter 3
King James Version
3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Amen.

I wouldnt even care if she wanst my favorite char in w3, or she wasnt main character
same with TLOU1 vs TLOU2, 1 was nice story, 2 was just angry and overly negative story
For me its just lore wise bullshit. She aint a witcher. Yeah the voice change is a degrade. But the looks can modeer. Fix.

Oh were you measuring Ciri’s bust size in the trailer?
Erik Kain of Forbes had a great article about Ciri in Witcher 4 outlining how the character has been radically altered, looking unrecognizably different now. If they just normally aged Ciri from Witcher 3, people would have been excited for the trailer. Instead, we have to ask why CDPR decided to deliberately alter her character.
Most women like playing as hot female characters in video games. Idk why the developers at Naughty Dog thought a bald manly woman would help sell their game and grow their company.
Its Neil Druckmanns fantasy.
Because they’re not doing hot characters for market preferences and instead focus on storytelling. People are shitting on this character for no reason and they don’t even know her story.

Exactly. That is my biggest reason for being as antagonistic as possible in return.

Having the 1% represent themselves more than 99% of people is the real missmatch here. Imagine someone forcing you to eat something you don‘t like, now imagine „you“ are 99% of people how that would be. This rejection is the result of their social „oppression“.
The weird people who got sworlied in highschool are the weirdos jerkin it to vodeogame characters and get mad when theyre not hot enough.

Who wants reality represented in their video games? It's a video game, meant for escapism.
It's a big issue that has ruined movies, shows, video games, and any media basically. Nobody was even thinking about this a decade ago, people would play a woman, a man, weird creatures, cars, whatever...
I also recognised her instantly as Tati Gabrielle the moment I saw her (and honestly, because I like her as an actor, it made me intrigued for the game, so yes, there is bias here on my part to an extent.)
But even upon learning that this is a real person, people are still doubling and quadrupling down on the idea that Tati herself is ugly, and I just find this to be mean for - at this point, given that we know nothing about the game, and nothing about the actor - no real reason. It just comes across like people are being mean and angry for the sake of being mean and angry.
Is it likely that the game will turn out to be dogwater? Sure. I don't really expect it to be good for a number of reasons. How Tati looks as a real, flesh and blood person isn't among those reasons.
Remember the 90s when men and lesbians could have a beer and play metal gear together 😂

What's interesting about that bit about the gender barrier and relatability is that it absolutely applies to the people who are claiming that it doesn't. The reason that you replace the male character in the first place with a female character is because you don't relate to the white male character and you relate more to the non-binary female character

Yep, that sums it up pretty well.
It isn't that they are "ugly" it's that they are making them manly. It's specifically this. They want women to be masculine not feminine.
Not everyone fits into the box of hyper-feminine or hyper-masculine. Do you expect a bounty hunter or a Witcher to be hyper feminine? They can still be beautiful and not overly feminine. Maybe their strength makes them more badass/hot? This is all subjective
