Hi Graham, with those Toko coil cans (and clones), the core colours are red=AM oscillator, yellow=first IF, white=2nd IF, black=detector. In an AM/FM set you will also see orange=FM IF interstage (10.7MHz), pink=discriminator first can, blue=discriminator 2nd can (connects to the diodes). HTH Alan

Hi Alan. I always wondered if the colours meant something. Thanks very much for the info. I will make a note of it. Regards Graham

Great troubleshooting steps! I plan on replacing the transistors in the last radio I worked on (last video) as well for the same reason, the new replacements show almost twice as much gain! Have you checked to see if there is a NTE replacement? If you have a function generator, it should go low enough to produce the signal needed (features dependent of course! :) ). ~Jack, VEG

Hi Jack and thanks for your comments. I didn’t check for an NTE equivalent so might be worth a look. I have 3 signal generators here and only one goes low enough but it is in modulated so I would have to add a tone in with another source. I was just being lazy really and as I know that BBC Radio 4 is on 198kHz it’s pretty easy to find it. That’s about the only station I can hear on long wave these days. Good luck with your transistor swap. All the best Graham

Graham, can I ask how the MW/LW and OFF push knobs come off? Or to make it easier for me, can the silver brights on them be changed without taking the knobs off? All 3 of my silver hats are missing but the knobs function fine. Advice please?

The buttons are a push fit onto a share section shaft. They have some sealant on them so they are usually stuck well. The silver tops usually come off pretty easily with a little heat or some isopropyl

@@Radiocruncher Graham, seeing as the switches on the Rambler are working fine,
do you think then that gently heating the new buttons and using the silver brights the better route?

Thanks Richard. It’s a strange board layout so I had to dig the service info out to decipher it. Got there in the end though

Hi Graham. I have the same problem with digital scopes and they generate loads of digital hash. The Tek scopes tend to be better i find,

Hi Simon. I was surprised just how noisy it was. My analogue scope is much better but less accessible. Thanks for watching
