Happy 7th anniversary, and thanks for taking us along to the farm show. My parents always took us to the state fair, while our friends went nuts on the rides, I much prefered all the animals and displays. They said I was an odd kid LOL
I wonder what Callie will remember of this? I can still remember going through the Philadelphia Zoo when I was that age. I never got my question answered. Mom told me to look at something in one of the cages, and I couldn't figure out what she wanted me to see. All these decades later, I still wonder what was in that cage. You need some of those pigs. They would do a good job of turning the reject veggies into meat for the family, and more fertilizer for the fields as well. There is a lot of work that goes into showing animals. I did carriage horse shows many years ago. Just the work of loading and unloading the carriages was enough. If you are homeschooling, the farm show would definitely be a day of school. You could develop so many lessons and learning experiences out of it. Heck, you could even go home and build a aquaponics system if you had older kids.
My late husband worked for over 30 years for one of the largest international harvesters/Case-IH dealers in the United States. Every year they hosted the Ag-Expo in Monroe Louisiana. It included all brands of farm equipment, animals from 4H and farms, grain dealerships and food booths with local raised locally and in the state. It was huger and lasted 3 days and nights. It was awesome. You would have loved it.
My father worked as an engineer for IH Farmall for 45 years. I went to more farm shows than I remember. He was proudest of me when I won the 4H combine competition parking a large picker within a 1/4” of the mark. Turns out my Dad had designed the steering system.

There is an agricultural fair every year in Perry Georgia, and it's the same kind of displays and exhibits. Lots of guys cooking ribs and chickens 😋. Love agriculture in Georgia, had so many uncle's who were farmers and carpenters. Really enjoyed your anniversary trip. TU for taking us along! Happy anniversary to you and your wife! I always love the Farm Shows and the Bloomsburg Fairs. The Ag shows are usually where you're going to see the large equipment. I'm a Penn State Master Gardener and loved working for the county extension services. This was so nice to see. Little raised beds would be good to begin teach your kids about gardening. I have been to the farm show nearly every year since I can remember ! it happens the same time every year and yeah for me back when I was a kid it was a part of my schooling! I was a member for 5 years in the FFA state band! And yes I had friends who took their livestock to the show and sale there at the farm show as well! It is still to this day one of my most favorite events! I am glad you enjoyed it as well with your family!😊
I bet those tomato plants smell wonderful this time of year. When I start mine in March, I cannot wait for them to be large enough to smell like tomato plants!
Love this video. It was a big flashback for me. In the late 70s I helped with the Illinois state Holstein herd at the Eastern National competition in Harrisburg. Those were good times a bunch of work but great memories.
Butter statues! Lol, I haven't thought about those in years. We used to have the Michigan State Fair in Detroit. Back in the 70s I'd go with my grandmother to see all the animals, and there would always be a big butter sculpture display with butter for sale. Being suburban kids, my sister and I were way more interested in the exotic critters than the fairway rides or carny games. And the corn. There was amazing roasted corn smothered in butter!

A small aquaponics setup in the new greenhouse experiment? Diversity alleviates stagnation. Seed trays could be bottom watered and fertilized in a sluice eventually saving labor and attention. Year-round vegetables at least for the family eventually? Callie may need her own milkshake cow!

When I was a 4-H Leader my kids participated in the Potato Judging competition. We went every year for many years. After the competition we would spend the rest of the day at the Farm Show. The judging was always on a Tuesday and in the late afternoon they would have the horse pulls. We would watch that for awhile before heading back to the Lehigh Valley. Great memories!
It was really interesting this year at the farm show. I loved goat petting what the greatest except for the 19:5 horses they are amazing Callie looks like she had a fun time have fun chocolate was my milkshakes (s ) for the day

We grew up on the desert so we didn't have farm shows but we did have the fair. Not just the games and rides, we had all sorts of competitions in food and other crafts including metal smithing, as well as animal showing. These fairs often went side by side with a rodeo. Us kids all loved going to the fair!
As soon as Callie went in for that second slurp, I knew ownership of that milkshake had changed hands!
