    Would be great to see a follow up video on YLN. I have a 3rd leaf tree, that set figs 2nd season, but after a heading cut and root prune this spring, it's been all about growth. Scaffolds are formed now, so next season should hopefully give me some figs 🤤 watching in NE Indiana

      So far it is holding the fruit. Our long hot, dry summers are difficult for most trees, but it's looking good so far.

    Is that a breba crop? I have a brown turkey here in zone 9a northern calif. It has a breba crop of 3 figs. It had 3 figs last fall at only six months old from a cutting.

      Some trees do get breba figs, but these are main crops Fig, growing on new growth.

      If you find someone that has a tree, you can get a cutting (8" piece of branch) put it in soil and will grow roots and leaves in about 1 to 2 months.

    Mel i just received some Mulberry cuttings from Jan. What's the best suggestion to propagate them? What substrate should i use? Should i lay the cuttings horizontally ( at an angle in the substrate or should i put them in upright? The cuttings are very fresh about three days old wrapped in damp tissue.

      I put the cuttings in 16 oz clear cups so when the roots start growing, I can see them. I put Aloe Vera on them as a rooting hormone.

    On another topic, do you know if the slime of slugs can stunt or kill young seedlings? My very young ilama seedlings with just two to three leaves were attacked by a slug that ate all the leaves off three of the otherwise healthy seedlings. I immediately took them & put them in the shade & reduced the watering. But still no new leaves from the previous leave nodes. It's been a couple weeks now the stems still look healthy however close to the top of the stem is darkening & drying off. I'm wondering if it's the slime of the slug or that that stage of the seedlings life to lose all the leaves could have put them into some kinda plant shock. If however I pick off one of the leaves a new one replaces it. Confused 😢😢

      First to get rid of slugs, put an empty tuna can in the ground with the top of the can even with the ground. Pour a little Coke in the can. Slugs and snails will crawl in for the sugar and the Coke will eat them. Just keep watering and fertilizing your plants and maybe they will come back.

    How many of your fig varieties are in the ground?

    • @edibletropicaltrees
      @edibletropicaltrees  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Only 2 are in the ground. Eventually I plan on grafting the varieties I like the best all to those trees.
