you are a genius!!! I was literally about to do something like this to do lexan windows on my old truck project and I can always count on you to raise the bar! THANK YOU!!!
Amazing project and pretty useful for someone who works a lot with polycarbonate acrylics and carbon fiber like you, but, is lexan lighter and stronger than both tampered and laminated glass that are used in cars, and is it illegal lexan to be used for windows in a street legal car (either a hand built one or made by a manufacturer, like the Ferrari F40, back in the late-80's early-90's, like you know either???)
Here you go again asking questions a quick Google search will answer. Clear Acrylic sheet is ten times stronger than glass. Polycarbonate/Lexan is 250 times stronger than glass. Legality for road use will vary around the world depending on each countries registration rules.
I think that the temp Bill needs to be at will be below the temp which galvanized metal off gases. I am thinking it will take 95-120 deg C get the plastic to molding temp. 200 deg C is the max temp for galvanized metal before it breaks down with long term use.
Anyone who has welded galvanised steel knows all too well the toxic fumes that creates, so I would never suggest anyone build anything like this as a food oven. Aside from all the jokes about "put a spit roast in it" you would poison everyone! But this is purely an industrial oven, and I will take it outside & crank it up to max temp & "cook off" the oven itself so any fumes are expelled - just like you do with newly fitted exhaust extractors. Then when I bring it back into my shed to use at much lower temperatures it will be "seasoned".
they wont let you use galvanized here for hoods anymore they make you change them out to stainless but i love your vids, i'm definitely going to be using some of your tips and technique on my Mg midget build that will be on Deboss Garage anyways awesome content
You gonna make a one piece flip up front like in my tutorial #12? They weigh less than the factory bonnet, so you can just use the OME hinges for mounting it to swing up.
Not everyone knows the dangers of welding galvanized metal. It off gases very bad things. Get as much off as possible and make sure you have good ventilation!!!
So does my missus! Don't fret - you will see it finished. I've continued to work on it but there has been some health issues that have slowed things, and I cannot yet show subsequent progress on the i/net yet for reasons that will be revealed when I can.
Although I have never done it, most powder coatings have a softening temperature around 80 °C, a melting temperature around 150 °C, and are cured at around 200 °C. for minimum 10 minutes to 15 minutes. So an oven along these lines just with 4 gas burners would easily & cheaply do that. Mine went to 250c in just 3 minutes!
Yes I am fine. Thanks for asking. My new race car is finished & awaits racing season in a couple of months, so expect vids when that kicks off. The house build? Well I'm doing the final stuff for certification but it's boring things, not visually interesting, and I'm a bit over making home build films. Worn out from the effort so I have to keep my motivation just for the actual finishing off. As far as fiberglassing vids go I have filmed just about every sort of job I do, so there's no point repeating that. Some car race fiberglass clients don't want their jobs filmed because their competitors scrutinize everything to either try & copy or protest against it.
Holy cow Bill, TWIN overhead igniters AND 6 afterburners ! You'll have to be VERY careful you don't burn a hole in the ozone layer mate, seriously, don't laugh it could happen !! Haha just kidding. great build mate can't wait to see it in action !! Seeya Rob.....you could start a whole NEW climate change, yer well we won't go there, just don't let the greenies see this !! HAHA.
Every video is a learning experience. Can't wait to see how this makeshift oven works to form a Lexan windshield.
To tell You are a legend in creativity, ingenuity and skill is quite the understatement. Great Video.
Hi from U.K. Wish You was My Grandad, Your a Legend Bill, keep the Top vids coming.
Ah the world of building stuff.
Keeps a mans brain young

Can’t wait to see it working. I need to make one. Cheers mate!

That welding session was intense lol 🤘🏻😝😎
Amazingly Kool sir.. I've totally subscribed to your channel...
Man you have cool stuff sitting on the side of your roads
Great editing! :)
Love it! Wheres the next part
Wouldnt galvanized sheet when heated be a bit dangerous?

That makes sense

Imagine the size of the Pizza you could make in that thing!
How has your over held up till now and how long do you bake the glass with the lexan in the oven for?
See my other video "Race Car Windows the complete guide.
You are awesome
that should work for powder coating to ???

Haven't seen a new video from you in awhile man. You good?

it wouldn't take much to just mold the whole hach out of lexsan and roast a whole pig in that thing lol.
