My first suspension mod on my 05 Lancer ES was Tein lowering springs. But I upgraded the stock ES struts to the Ralliart struts. I did have to install camber bolts on the front to allow for camber adjustment. The stock rear adjustment points had plenty of room for rear camber adjustment. I eventually upgraded to Tein coilovers. The biggest issue with my 05 Lancer ES was doing height adjustment. I couldn't use the gap between the fender wells because the rear finder wells are actually lower than the front. So in order to get the same height on both front and rear, I had to use the pinch welds that run along under the rocker panels. If I use the gap on the fender wells, the rear will sit about an inch higher than the front. The LS, OZ, and Ralliart are the same way. I really haven't paid much attention to the EVOs, but it appears the front and rear fender wells are the same height.

Another thing to add is dont buy bolt-ons for "quick" gains. Its likely that whats been advertise is tuned on an ECU and not factory. In most case it will only take it the amount of air/fuel required to run the car from factory. Save your money and buy your bolt-ons when you bring in an induction system. Induction systems is where you will make your biggest gains and where your bolt-ons will make its most power with an aftermarket ECU&tune.

I don't know many Evo owners (including myself) that went small battery to reduce weight. We all went small battery to be able to use short route intercooler piping for better response and because we didn't want to run power wires through our full interior cars. Also if your car likes to sit, take a min to remove the negative off your battery and it wont die.

There is one thing also about the manifold, like you said - temperature. Temperature and movement. Engine moving compared to a stiff hanging exhaust with only spring bolts allowing minimal movement under the turbo elbow. If you wish to use an Stainless elbow &/or manifold, you need to put a longer flex pipe on the downpipe. I've learned through 8 years of Evo experience :)

  • @SirZombalot

I know the feel, had my motor built by a well known part fabber in the respective community. Drove it home to find they put a cracked manifold back on, and I had oil blow by on all 4 rings. 6k worth of parts and labor in shortblock alone. Was supposed to be a 700whp capable build. Couldn't dd it for a month. Someone recommends a tuner/builder and I just go full suspish lol.

I agree with the statement about green Tien springs on a tuner car. The previous owner of my 3000gt vr4 put them on the car and it was terrible for anything but a race track. I put stock springs back on as fast as I could.

I can't believe people don't already do tonnes of research before buying. Usually doesn't take long either it took me 2 hours to find out the best brake set-up for my car within my budget and needs. Much rather buy once, be happy and have spent an extra £50.

  • @chris3277

One thing I sort of regret is the 3 port boost controller for my Evo 9. I hate the way it sounds when I'm at full boost, the first time I heard it I thought I messed up my car and this was right after getting it tuned and running E85. I needed it though in order to get dual map tuned, and I wish there was some way to keep my mbc while being able to switch maps quickly. Great video though, so true about those springs. Terrible for our cars...

Loving the videos! Another point for Carbon Fibre, people need to learn the difference between 'Dry Carbon' & 'Wet Carbon' most carbon parts are 'Wet Carbon' which isn't as strong as its like 75% Resin, also the weight loss using 'Wet Carbon' isn't that great, I agree if you get actual Carbon (Dry Carbon) it's super lite, but the 'Wet Carbon' is still quite heavy considering the price difference over Fibre Glass parts, just a tip for people! :D

I've been using pro sport gauges for 7+ years with zero issues. I always find that majority of the times it's user install error on gauges. Also the mini battery is not a big deal either, I keep a ctek on mine whenever I'm not driving my evo...

  • @zanehemmings7008
    @zanehemmings7008 9 ปีที่แล้ว

the part your talking about the cheaper manifolds the turbo is just held up by that manifold its also held up by strut under neath it going from the black of the manifold to the dump so in saying that your very unlikely going to brake that cheaper manifold, the only thing you need to worry about is the smoothness of the exhaust ports and welding job of everything in saying that it all needs to flow smoothly

Also make sure the shop you're having your car tuned at is not just a known name, but also is known for tuning your kind of car. If you have an EVO and the shop you're having it tuned at is known for tuning Mustangs, maybe you should look for someone else, even if they're good at doing Mustangs.

What you said about the gt35r isn't completely true. My father had a 714hp 2.0ltr evo with a custom gt35r turbo from owen developments and the thing was pulling hard by 3000rpm. It's all about how things work together. But yes, if you just stuff a big turbo on without working stuff out then yeah you'll get pretty bad turbo lag.

Great video, but I always get confused when people say they don't take their Evo in the snow or on trails. I mean that's what they're built for (even have a setting just for snow lol). I don't know, maybe I'm just one of the few people that use their Evo for what it's intended for, still good points in your video though.

I must just clean and maintain my car very well then. 08 X, has been through every element, off road, all year long and at 97k miles and has very little damage to the underside. When I completely rebuild the car in a few years I'm rhino lining the underside for more protection.

+NinjaMasterZer0 I had a BONE STOCK 98 Talon tsi a year ago that was originally driven in a snowy area. When it came to working on it, almost all the bolts were rusted shut and had to be cut just to do the job. WD40, freeze off, blow torch etc... would maybe break the bolts loose. Thats just one issue so gotta be careful with that.

When you own an Evo,if you truly can afford it,in North America, you should always buy it with rust protection, from Mitsubishi, not those shitty things at 60$ you have to do everyyear by some random fuckwit,Im tlaking about the real one, guaranteed 10 years. You have no reasons NOT to drive an Evo in the snow,it's actually way easier on the drivetrain than doing all that stupid shit on asphalt. Also, when cleaning car just rinse the underside...

Picking up an Evo X within the year, apparently one i found has been modified to put out 400HP (he showed me dyno charts). Is anything beyond this going to impact its daily drivability?
