RIP Kobe. My childhood. I love you so much and I cannot believe my eyes. These were the golden days of my life!! I love the city of LA just rings you a special type of joy that nowhere else can.
That 2010 chip against boston was the most satisfying championship I've ever experienced. As an LA native, words can't explain what kobe meant to us. No city loved an athlete more than LA loved kobe. Football has always been my favorite sports. I've coached my son since pop warner. But for some reason, my family went insane like no other over laker games. Probably because we were so invested in kobe, having to defend the constant hate thrown at him over the years. The lows were brutal, like finals loss vs pistons & boston. But my son was in middle school during the last 2 chips vs orlando and boston. By that time, he was no longer the little boy trying to act like his dad, HE WAS A FULL BLOWN KOBE STAN, BUT HE FIT RIGHT IN WITH THE REST OF US, LOL. Me, my dad, my brothers, and my son would have a guys night, and watch the games together not just as family, but as huge fans. It was awesome to be able to share that experience with them. The last one against boston was one of our best memories of my life. Me and my son listened to I love LA all Summer. I decided to dial sports back after that season, lol. I told the lord if he let us get that final chip vs Boston, I was gonna start going back to church again. That last game vs Boston was a mental rollercoaster, lol. we were down 17 and it looked like we were gonna lose. I wanted to change the channel, but my son wouldn't let me. Still can't believe we won. Needless to say, me and my son decided we were going out on top, and started going to church again. My son jokes that god intentionally put us through the ringer in that series and especially that game 7, and it made going out on top and not looking back an easy decision. We would give anything to experience that 1 more time though. Damn we miss that guy😭
Then you have to remember also about that Game 7 in 2010 is because the Lakers had never beaten the Celtics in the NBA finals in a Game 7 yes they had won two previous series against the Celtics (85 in the old Boston Garden, and 1987) but 2010 must have been special for you because it was Game 7, it was in Los Angeles and so many Laker greats had never beaten the Celtics Game 7. 1969 specifically stands out because Jack Kent Cooke had all the balloons ready and they were gonna drop them down when they won, instead Russell won his 11th and last championship as a player/coach. That has to be the most satisfying of all the Laker titles considering that Game 6 disaster two years earlier in Boston and Kobe and Co wanting redemption for that. Yes, they won in 2009 v Orlando, but getting a back to back v a hated rival like the Celtics had to be the sweetest of titles.
