Bingo. This is the single biggest factor in why police and fire department quality have lowered in the last 30 years. Its also why their perception has taken such a huge dip. Shitty people do shitty jobs and it reflects on everyone.
I think it's more a decline in moral standards throughout the country. I bet they had a clean background check. What kids are exposed to in school and into adulthood is becoming normalized. A lack of critical thinking, cause and effect, self-control, integrity, self-evaluation, respect, and honor. Watch. It will just get worse. There are people my age and younger who have learned, but it's a minority that have done so.
The new training should be if you scew up you will be fired, jailed and never have another job in law enforcement. Zero tolerance. Police need to be held to a higher standard. They have gotten away with too much for too long.
I’ve been close to some law enforcement officers a few times in life. They lived very much above the law off duty. Drinking and driving, excessive speeding, they acted protected.
That *was* a funny comment I must say. Yeah it is ugly. We have one like that in our county. It's extra ugly because it's also a detention center so those skinny windows that span multiple stories are so the incarcerated can't escape out a window.
Rem Loo as an architect, I agree. Their function as a high security building and often mediocre budgets make it tough to make those buildings attractive.
the problem is *the power* that comes with state employment. government agents are just regular morons, usually bottom half of the class and/or pathological, we can *NOT* allow them to have a *_blank check to infinite power._*
Unfortunately this appears to mostly be the case. The brightest ones are on a career trajectory and make detective soon. The rest are just regular guys and gals. No smarter or more moral than any other regular person. Smarter and more moral than many of the suspects they deal with? Yes. Mostly they are a step above your crack or meth head, burglar, robber, rapist or killers. But most cops would be car mechanics, plumbers, heating and cooling, truckers, factory workers, gym teacher, salesman etc... But instead they were attracted to the badge for a variety of reasons and become cops instead. They're obviously not all bad. But the power of anything tends to corrupt. And the easily corruptible are attracted to power. So it's a perfect recipe for disaster. And I think it's very rare and commendable what this particular county is doing to clean things up. If you're going to do the things these cops did, then you're going to need to be down here with the rest of the mechanics, factory workers and regular Joe's.
No, the problem is unions having too much power. That’s why police are suspended, with pay, during an investigation. Unions have that written into contracts with municipalities when negotiating contracts.
long-time listener , first-time caller This happens far worse in local government & you are 100% right. It’s all a power trip, conflict of interest type of thing. Bunch of egotistical morons.
Just wanted to point out that this is COUNTY employment, not "state employment." While I am here, you might also want to remember that these bad apples were arrested. This particular deputy Sheriff got to go to the place she works, in handcuffs. Yes, the city arrested her, but they then took her to the county jail to be processed. Finally, I don't see how arresting county deputies is allowing them to have "a blank check to infinite power." Maybe you or someone else can explain that one to me.
@@patrickjones6400 wrote: "...That’s why police are suspended, with pay, during an investigation..." No, not really. Ever heard the term "innocent until proven guilty?" I guess you only agree with it when it works to your advantage and not someone else's. How would you like for a cop to arrest you on trumped up charges or manufactured evidence, and then have your boss fire you because of it before your trial? Before you even go there, some cops don't get along, so it is entirely possible one would screw with another. I am not saying it happens a lot, I am just saying that everyone deserves to have charges against them investigated fully BEFORE they get penalized.
Hey this sheriff should be commended for actually firing them and cleaning house. Now he just needs the hunt the bad eggs within his dept BEFORE they get busted. Still, nice to see no coverups.
I agree with your comments. I also think that there needs to be some change in their background checks, testing procedures, etc. Many of these issues may have been discovered at that time. Most officers across the country are doing a fine job.
@Stop the BS Yes, I am personally aware of that. However, the info in this article makes me believe that their personnel procedures could use some definite improvement if their is this much crime in their department. Thanks
All the crimes people were fired for, were crimes they had to be fired for. In Texas if you have a class B or above you are done in law enforcment, you can have a class b but have to wait 10 years after to get your license back. Most of the times officers have their jobs protected by HR departments, administrative staff and unions. For example an officer who is racial profiling gets reported by people and or officers, they review all the evidence and find no wrong doing on the officer. Sometimes you know someone is not fit but you just can’t show physical proof of it. Another examples is that there are officers who will write you up for any and all traffic violations to raise their stats, when 1 citation is enough depending on the situation, for example you get pulled over for speeding, but then you get a citation for speeding, not having your driver’s license on you, cracked/broken tail light but still works, failing to use blinker within 100 feet etc. Its not a illegal issue but if you are citing just for stats its an immoral issue and should not be tolerated. Officers number 1 job is to keep the peace, and they are not keeping the peace by being heavy handed.
This is something that should be done normally anyway. He doesnt deserve praise for doing his job. Im not trying to be a jerk but when you think that normal is commendable then theres going to be police that try to lower the bar.
Hey that's not fair!!! Just because the majority of those cops are corrupt, doesn't mean they all should be judged that way! Wait. Oh shit...yes it does.
Problem is departments have dropped hiring standards recently due to lack of interest in the profession as well as lack of pay.. the “good guys” that used to do the job for the right reasons are retiring, the good guys of the next generation are finding professions that 1) pay better 2) aren’t the subject of constant criticism on social media. It’s simple you want high quality officers you have to pay for them (taxes)... the local dept by me continues to drop their hiring standards almost monthly and is now offering $2500 sign on bonus (don’t even need to finish the academy) and made it so misdemeanor arrests are acceptable as long as they are more then a year old.
extreme and the sjw saying women need to be a cop cuz equality they said fuck it to the fitness tests and im sure the IQ standard is getting lower cops should have an age limit as well dude was 23 and a cop his brain hasnt even finished developing wtf
extremerc76 - When were there “good” cops running departments? When? Definitely not in the last 100 years. They were corrupt during prohibition, then during Jim Crow, then they beat hippies bikers & negros during the 60s, there is Serpico in the 1970s, Rodney King...Drug War...cop’s have always been cops. Like big government itself, the armed agents of tyrants should be kept in check by a democratic populace.
Yes. I've seen news about that with the Vallejo, CA police department. They seem to get away with almost anything. In a recent police shooting the final report said the suspect was crouching down getting ready to shoot and the guy didn't have a gun. The cop that did the shooting has been through 5 shootings in the past few years. The union forced the final report to come out this way. There's is no accountability at all with this PD.
Yes it is the Union! Our community leaders should have full and complete authority over it's officers, but they step in with their lawsuits protecting criminal behavior of all it's officers.
And let us educate the public as to what State and Federal law says for real - the parts which refer to protection of life (yes the officers) and property and not what the media would have the public believe.
@Hank Kriete I was hired in 1972 here in the Urbs and retired in 2009. At the time you had to have a high school education and the City was stringent about who got hired - detectives came around your neighborhood and asked questions about you. Lot of tests. Later on you had to have a college education to apply - I do not what happened to that.
@Hank Kriete I do not know if this is still a requirement. When I was hired the City College had a large block of instruction and upon completion everyone received college credits. In our class there we had several students who gave up very high paying jobs because they wanted to be the police.
We need more of this. Frankly I think law enforcement should be help to a HIGHER standard then civilians. Those who enforce the law should not be above the law, but be beyond reproach.
All Law enforcement officers should have to have a license to hold a badge and gun, then if they get into trouble revoke the license and make them earn a living doing something else, it works for truck drivers, nurses, contractors, etc so why not cops too.

You can’t say they are beyond reproach because that means if they do anything wrong or make mistakes then these failings are ignored or they are not held to account, so they get away with it! So all of the bad things currently happening will continue to get worse. What you’ve said is complete nonsense. Perhaps you need to check the meaning of the word?
All police are civilians. They are not military. Your terminology is incorrect. Police are under civil law like you are. They are simply exercising full time citizen arrest powers while wearing a costume and being authorized by the corporation (the city) to hand out civil claims so that a civil court procedure can make revenue off you.
We are going to investigate ourselves, and find no wrong doing. And anyone under suspicion, will be put on paid administrative leave, for as long as it takes.
The deeper reason for this is the lessening of score and standards requirements in LE all over the country as there are decreasing numbers of applicants. Same thing is happening in the military. The result is that LE agencies are often scraping the bottom of the barrel in hiring, and the pressure to retain as many possible over the course of training leads to results like this.
San Antonio has operated under its own set of rules for years. Almost like entering another country with a different set of rules. As far as I am concerned there is a new Sheriff in town either by being elected or getting a memo from the Trump white house - Clean it up or we will. MAGA

@@usernamesrlamo And any citizens who files false reports or lies in grand jury proceedings or court against a public servant should receive the same punishment, 25 to life in prison . Don't you agree ?
If only more sheriffs were like this man and actually hold their officers accountable. I’m a strong supporter of law enforcement who uphold and also abide by the law but there is a percentage of officers, detectives, sheriff’s, attorneys, prosecutors, etc.. who lock up innocent people and stick to their bullcrap even after evidence shows their innocence and yet don’t abide by the law, or circumvent the law themselves. These people make life very difficult for their community as well as the other law enforcement officers in the country who are honest people just doing a job.
He may be good at firing them, but he should have been better at _hiring_ good people in the first place. Does the department ever check backgrounds of applicants?
That was a great answer from the chief. “It’s 16 today and if I have to make it 17 tonight and 18 tomorrow I will” Good for him!!!! That’s more like it. Start sweeping all the departments!!!!
It always amazes me how these people that are supposed to uphold the law, are breaking it themselves, and some in BIG ways! Needs to be DOUBLE THE PUNISHMENT IF YOU'RE LAW ENFORCEMENT OR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE. These people know better, but think they're above the law because they wear a badge.
They really are! People in San Antonio aren't happy when they see a Bexar county officer! In fact, most people I know will drive the opposite direction! Corrupt to the core.
Good on that Sheriff for serving justice to those law enforcement officials for their wrongdoings. May others, especially those that are corrupt law enforcement officials, learn from this and begin behaving appropriately. And may justice be served to such individuals that refuse to change for the better, as well.
@Michael Cheritto if a 1% club tried to do what cops do they would be killed by the people. It drives me crazy that people think the police are above it or that a cops is a hero.
Thankfully the County Sheriff is doing his job and ridding his department of bad deputies. We need far more honorable County Sheriffs just like this guy.
You know, you're not wrong. There are many cops that have a gang mentallity and use their advantages of being a cop to the fullest when it comes to getting away with corruption and breaking the law. There have been cops that have come forward about this .. corruption is rampant in this world, especially in law enforcement.
Don't get way too confy there, this is just the deal about better them than me, if this was done in many PDs, in Cleveland ,Chicago,Wisconsin,NY,NJ etc..., the PDs woulb be almost empty.
That's because he has too. The dept is so corrupt that it's bursting at the seams. If the chief doesn't get rid of the lawbreakers that have been publicly exposed, then he's job is on the line. Bur, I'm sure most of these cops that were let go will soon work at a nearby PD elsewhere. Blue wall is a gang that looks our for their criminal and corrupt buddies in blue.
Most are in gen pop, only in max security prisons are they kept seperate. You sound like kid talking at the adulkts table, we all hear you but no one takes you serious.
Thank you Dept. No one SHOULD BE above the law. If the laws are not equally applicable to all its not Justice. Those in authority should be held to a higher standard or there will be diminishing respect for the system.
This is not good. We desperately officers and deputies on the streets, not behind bars. I don't mean make officers exempt from criminal charges. Our world is crumbling out here.
This is what happens when you lower the IQ requirements and disqualify high IQ applicants. Hiring sociopathic bullies and rampant steroid abuse don't help either.
@Fantabulous The Fabulous Yes there is. Dayton Ohio is famous because they lowered their police IQ requirement to 85 in order to get more minority applicants. Google is user friendly.

@Hank Kriete actually it is usually 60 of college hours without a declared major for the minimum. Additionally, many of them get in with active military experience with no to little college. Very few Police Departments can call for college degreed applicants due to the physical failure rates that this generation seems to expose.
@Hank Krietehire people who think critically and can use their own morality to advance policing. Most policing policies are written by think tanks with the ideology of full compliance. Very dangerous for people with combat issues to be placed in a public then given the tools that are very aggressive.

This would happen in every department, nationwide, if they spent time, trying to straighten up the force, rather than trying to hide their wrong doings.
That's 17 out of *1500* deputies or around 1% who won't obey the law. That's pretty standard for any group of people, regardless of profession or demographic. It's not like Rampart or CPD, where it's easier to count the ones who *aren't* corrupt
This is a good example and a glimmer of hope. Good cops pay the price for the actions of bad cops. These good cops need our support because when they try to go it alone, they lose their jobs, their friends and family, and sometimes even their lives.

the problem is *the power* that comes with state employment.
government agents are just regular morons, usually bottom half of the class and/or pathological, we can *NOT* allow them to have a *_blank check to infinite power._*
Maybe this is the coverup...
Thanks for the nuanced take. Lots of cops are good, but a bad culture can ruin a department
Good on this Sheriff. He should be commended for taking a strong stance and uphold the public trust in his officers
This is something that should be done normally anyway. He doesnt deserve praise for doing his job. Im not trying to be a jerk but when you think that normal is commendable then theres going to be police that try to lower the bar.

"F" training. Hold people and higher-ups responsible & accountable. The PROBLEM - POLICE UNIONS - PERIOD!
Yes, it is the unions, but unions are usually Democrats and they want the votes and the money. They have power.
Who pushed for Affirmative Action hiring practices if not the Demcommie supporting unions?
Why the hell would it be the police unions fault. That’s absurd!
Yes it is the Union! Our community leaders should have full and complete authority over it's officers, but they step in with their lawsuits protecting criminal behavior of all it's officers.
Law enforcement are being held accountable here. This should not be a problem. This sheriff should be given a massive award.
How about training them in the us constitution ya know the constitution they took an oath to defend.
And let us educate the public as to what State and Federal law says for real - the parts which refer to protection of life (yes the officers) and property and not what the media would have the public believe.
Because then they'd actually work for the people instead of working for the establishment and that is something the establishment will not allow

@Hank Kriete I do not know if this is still a requirement. When I was hired the City College had a large block of instruction and upon completion everyone received college credits. In our class there we had several students who gave up very high paying jobs because they wanted to be the police.

All police are civilians. They are not military. Your terminology is incorrect. Police are under civil law like you are.

This is what diversity hiring gets you .
@@hemihead001 diversity…? She’s a white woman, that doesn’t seem that diverse to me😂😂😂plenty of those all around here
This would happen in every department, nationwide, if they spent time, trying to straighten up the force, rather than trying to hide their wrong doings.
I applaud the sheriff for again holding his deputies accountable and restructuring the department
Lol 17 crooked cops arrested from the same department?????? Lench them!
They still are way behind politicians and people keep voting for them! WTF
The chief is doing his job well!
That's all a show he was putting on.. He's as bad ass all the other's
It's 3 years later, do they still have employees?
It's terrifying to see how many corrupt cops there are in one department but it's good to see the department trying to get rid of them.
That's 17 out of *1500* deputies or around 1% who won't obey the law. That's pretty standard for any group of people, regardless of profession or demographic. It's not like Rampart or CPD, where it's easier to count the ones who *aren't* corrupt
Proof positive that anything with a pulse can be a cop.
@renge99O9...pot, meet kettle. You're projecting.
Sad it takes more hours of training to become a legal hair stylist then it takes to become a cop. Cops are a joke
Why dont you go show how its it's done. Or do you have a pulse?
@@darthstanley166 why don't you go find a cop to blow. Check for a pulse first.
@renge99O9....you mad, bro? Do you need your manpon changed? 😂😂😂
Cops breakin' the law!?! Yuh don't saaaay
Well this video does.
If there has been this many arrests. Can you even imagine what’s actually gotten away with
Training can’t change a person heart or they’re mind if they are evil no amount of training can fix they
The Sheriff Also did he would overhaul their recruitment procedures in an effort to get the right people into the job.
no one is truly angelic all the time and no one is evil all the time. in reality we all exist in gray areas
I’m so glad that they are holding these cops feet in the fire!!! I wish cops were honest like this everywhere.
Good job!👏🏽
This is a good example and a glimmer of hope. Good cops pay the price for the actions of bad cops. These good cops need our support because when they try to go it alone, they lose their jobs, their friends and family, and sometimes even their lives.
Steve A that’s why I work at Shipley’s it’s safe their................ working in law is like a gang mob..............
America won’t abandon law enforcement. Like it or not, it’s here to stay. We have to work with what we’ve got. I feel my position- at the risk of sounding arrogant- is our best shot at moving forward.
No such thing as a good cop one bad apple rotten the whole basket case. 😎😎😎Bad boys bad boys whatcha gonna do whatcha gonna do when we come for you....
Good cops..lololol....
I'll believe in good cops when they start turning in the bad ones.
Good cops...that's funny!!!!
"Good" cops covering for bad cops are not good. If I watch someone murder a fellow Human being and then I say it didn't happen...?
This Sheriff models the kind of behavior the should be expected from true leader public servant.
He is demonstrating the kind of leadership that demonstrates integrity and having people serve in his department that truly work credibly and responsibly among the people that they have sworn to serve and protect.
Thank you sir. Your style of leadership is what is needed all over the entire country and around the world.
