@@MasonJWMyers It's definitely Gummigoo. I mean, he was obviously AI due to being an NPC, and he was self-aware enough to understand what was happening and actually become a person until Caine "poofed" him.

To explain the tea pot, it is the Utah teapot and is a bit of an inside joke of the computer graphics community. Basically, that particular teapot was one of the first objects to be created using bezier curves at the University of Utah in 1975. It is now one of the objects all computer graphics students create as a right of passage into the field.

That or a reference to Russell's teapot as an analogy, formulated by the philosopher Bertrand Russell. Although it's a bit of a stretch.

Jax went from jerk with a purpose (make people mad at him so they won’t go crazy and abstract) to just straight up jerk. At least that’s my headcannon.

I don't know if anyone's answered this for you, but the teapots are actually The Utah Teapot. It was one of the earliest 3D models ever made and is still used for a reference object. It's also an inside joke of 3D animation.
In Toy Story, the teapot that Buzz uses as Mrss. Nesbit? The Utah Teapot.
In simple words, it's the "Hello World" equivalent on 3D modeling.

made, they had a great point - since Jax views himself as a player, he dehumanizes all the other members of the gang and views them as npcs hence why he's such a jerk to them. Pomni on the other hand, does the complete opposite and humanizes Gummigoo.
Idk seems like he was losing his cool halfway through.

What I loved about this episode was that the ending was a bit more hopeful in comparison to the pilot. Pomni’s smile at the end shows us that she’s learning to trust her new friends, even if it seems like they don’t care about her.

3:30 given how out of focus Zooble is, I feel like we’re building to an episode that puts them at the center and makes their lack of engagement in the adventures *a thing.*
Well the creator said there would be an episode about each character as the focus in order of their ages from youngest to oldest and there’s 7 episodes left for the season which fits perfectly for the six main characters with the last being about Caine and the circus itself.
To be fair, I think it was implied that Zooble was setting up Kaufmo's funeral in the meantime?

Zooble WILL be in episode 3 and onwards. Goose said in Tumblrthat ep3 it's a very Zooble centric episode and one of her favorite episodes to write, and she's very excited for it to come out.

fun fact: those tea kettles are called Utah teapots. The teapot shape contained a number of elements that made it ideal for the graphics experiments of the time: it was round, contained saddle points, had a genus greater than zero because of the hole in the handle, could project a shadow on itself, and could be displayed accurately without a surface texture. as a result it is a 3D test model that has become a standard reference object and an in-joke within the computer graphics community.
I feel so bad for Gangle. Being manipulated by Jax and her comedy mask constantly breaking makes me feel sad for her. I hope she gets justice that she deserves. I am 100% buying the Gangle plush!

Plot twist: when it's finally time for an episode with violence, Gangle's comedy mask doesn't break, and SHE'S the one maniacally laughing and blowing stuff up, and Jax is just left befuddled being like "... What the f[boing!], Gangle."

@@baraqueen7993 Heh yeah I don't think Goose would really put in a romantic plot point like that really. I don't think it's her style and I think Pomni genuinely connected to his feelings of loneliness and uncertainty, But if I learned anything form Baldur's gate: the actaul bear you slept with is the friends you made along the way.
Got two things to say about this episode(aside from talking about how great it was, obviously.):
1. The bit at the start where pomni fell onto a cube with glitched collision which launched her up into the ceiling might've been forshadowing for pomni's escape plan later in the episode.
2. I find the characters' reactions to the concept of the funeral interesting. Two specifically: Kinger got genuinely serious for once, and you didn't include it here, but they cut to Jax, and he looks a little sad for a moment. We know there was another Chess character that abstracted from episode 1's backgrounds, and she might be related to Kinger somehow. Maybe Jax had someone close like that too that he lost?
I actually personally sort of headcanon that Queenie (that chess piece your talking about that Goose actually did give a name too) was sort of a mother figure to Jax as it's very likely he came to the circus at an early age, maybe preteen years. I imagine since Queenie abstracted he's been skipping all the funerals to keep his walls up. The end of this episode is really fueling that headcanon of mine. Then again that could be me always attaching the title of "bad but sad boy." to every character that's an asshole/bully character in everything I hyperfixate on.
"Feeling like your nothing is kinda normal." Is a line that i suspect will haunt me for a very long time. It hits in a way that is devastating.
The moment the episode started to humanize Gummygoo I could tell we were being set up for a fall. It still hurt.
I feel like this show is gonna have some very timely, very interesting things to say about AI.
Can I just say how much i appreciate the realism of Kinger’s Alzheimer’s symptoms? I spent the last three years caregiving for my grandmother with dementia, and while hers was different and more extreme bc of her age and disease type, it was still very accurate to irl. I really love Kinger and hope he can bring more love and representation to the elderly and their mental health issues and journeys

@@rasa7449 Not really, honestly. I was disappointed at how tame he was because a bunch of people kept saying of how "bad he was" in the second episode but...he's really not.
We only feel for Gummigoo because we get to know him and his existential crisis that he accidentally, by pure chance, had. Jax has no reason to give two shits about NPCs, so what he did to the NPCs was null and void.
Everything he did to the others just seems like his common behavior. He probably doesn't care because I don't even think any of them can die unless they abstract. Ragatha got stabbed and was fine. It was just a game at the end of the day, something he doesn't have to care about and I don't blame him for not caring about it.
Why should he????? I haven't seen much of a reason he should care either.

Fun fact: the teapots are a reference to the Utah Teapot, a 3D test model that's a standard reference object for computer graphics! Putting them in there is basically a way to say "we're going to the test/debug area"!
I love the idea of Pomni and Gummigoo ending up in this room out of bounds of the regular 'game map' that seems to have been made to cache assets for later use. Poor fella, hope we see him again. Pomni would probably feel a lot better about it if she knew he still existed, somewhere.
I like to think that gummigoo got sent back to his kingdom and survived

The kingdom ceased to exist the moment the players left it. You don't waste processing power running AI and rendering models unless the players are interacting with them.

Though it’s sad to think that the troupe is only able to do these ceremonies behind Caine’s back. Obviously he’s not malicious, but he clearly doesn’t understand human empathy and would rather just provide constant distractions than allow the players proper time to grieve.
@@Cure_Hana| Since Caine was likely programmed to entertain children, grief is an alien concept to him. When a child is sad/upset, you can simply distract them with fun and games.
The way I screamed when Caine just destroyed Gummigoo. Also damn Jax is maniacal the way he just allowed that fudge monster to go into the kingdom like oh my god💀. That’s just tells the audience he doesn’t view these NPC as alive. This was a pretty good 2nd episode.

The teapots are probably a reference to the Utah Teapot. There's a hypothesis that they may also be a reference to the Russel's Teapot thought experiment.

I kind of way that coming... for one thing, this show is a dark comedy. And second thing, with how the world operate, i can see why would Caine would deleted him.....
It'd be even funnier to me if they went to the trouble of making a Gummigoo plush and he in fact never actually shows up in the show ever again...The commitment to the meta humor of such a thing would be too good.
When The Doors played on Ed Sullivan, they were cautioned not to do certain songs that were considered too extreme.
They played one of those exact songs anyway.
The producers threatened The Doors saying they'll never play Ed Sullivan ever again.

You should check out "Raggedy Ann & Andy: A Musical Adventure". It's one of Gooseworx's favorite movies, and one of the biggest influences in this show: the Raggedy Ann doll with Ragatha, Jax's voice is based on Raggedy Andy's, and even the Fudge is a straight-up parody of "the Greedy", an eternally self-consuming ocean of taffy and candy with the exact same type of voice.
It's one of my favorite movies too! I never knew Gooseworx was a fan, but I saw Greedy all over Fudge.
I love how every other reactor was super invested in Gummigoo and mourned his deletion, and meanwhile as soon as he starts having an existential crisis Zamber's like "CAINE COME HELP YOU GOTTA KILL IT"

I've seen a number of people bring up the mannequins, and honestly, I just think Caine... well, he didn't get lazy so much as he didn't feel the need to created a number of unique models for NPCs who are just going to be extras in a crowd. Clearly, the special new AI was made for someone else. Someone a bit more noteworthy...
It sucks that you talked over the part where Pomni said "I'm not a child, you don't have to hype me up" in response to Ragatha saying they're already friends with the princess. That was a brutally honest response, it really caught me off guard when I first heard it. On the one hand, it shows that Pomni is really not into these adventures, at least not yet, but it also kind of strains things with Ragatha, who as we see later in the episode, worries that Pomni doesn't like her, despite how friendly she tries to be. I found it a bit odd how alienated Pomni felt from the rest of the humans in the Digital Circus, but I'll get back to that in a moment.
It's never outright stated, but I think Gummigoo got the "sophisticated AI" Caine was working on. He even gave Gummigoo a tragic backstory to help authenticity and immersion. Too bad all this did was give Gummigoo an existential crisis when he glitched below the map and essentially came across the Candy Canyon Kingdom's debug room. That bit about his mum not being there, then realizing he doesn't even remember what she looked like is particularly tragic, since despite having advanced AI, Caine really cut corners when it came to this particular adventure since he didn't bother to make a model for Gummigoo's mum... because why would he? It's not like he expected the human characters to actually go to Gummigoo's village. It makes me wonder if all the NPCs have this level of sophistication, it's hard to tell given we only meet a handful of other NPCs who don't do much outside their respective roles within the "adventure".
As nice as it was to have Pomni offer to take Gummigoo back to the circus, I knew it was gonna end badly for Gummigoo. That said, I at least understand where Caine is coming from; if too many NPC live in the circus along with the humans, it'll become more difficult to keep track of who's what. The thousand-yard stare Caine gives suggest that he's worried he might do something bad or irreversible to a human he thought was an NPC (or perhaps that happened at some point in the past?). Still, this just goes to show how callous he is with the NPCs he creates, not to mention he's completely oblivious to how emotionally devastating this is to Pomni, too. Caine really is the unintentional villain, his actions are incredibly harmful, but there's no malice behind them.
Despite this, though, it's nice to see the episode end on a relatively reassuring note (during a funeral of all things). Her desire to have Gummigoo as a friend at the circus seems to stem from her being really unsure of the human characters already there, even Ragatha, who's going out of her way to be as friendly as possible with her. It takes seeing them mourn the loss of Kaufmo to have her realize that they're all in this together, and if she falls, they'll be there to help her out...
...Well, maybe not Jax. In fact, Jax is an interesting case in that a lot of fans are complaining that they "ruined" Jax's character or that he somehow changed between episodes. Honestly, I see no difference in behavior with Jax; he's a jerk who's only interested in his own amusement in the first episode, and he's a jerk who's only interested in his own amusement in this episode. That said, there IS one blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment from Jax I'd like to highlight: at 24:01, Jax quickly flashes through a number of expressions before walking off, a few of them sad expressions. Given that this is happening when Ragatha is explaining that they're holding a funeral for Kaufmo, this would suggests that he genuinely does miss him, but is suppressing these sad emotions. I have a theory that Jax's jerkass persona is there as a defensive mechanism, to protect himself from being abstracted by forgoing emotional attachments to anyone else, and just focusing on his own fun. So it's rather ironic that people saying that Jax was "ruined" in this episode or that he somehow became worse here, when this episode gave us the first hint that he's not nearly as bad as he often acts like.
All that said, though... wow, I was NOT expecting to get this emotionally invested in these characters. I liked the first episode, but this one was WAY better, I love it! Can't wait for the next one!

I'm pretty sure the tea kettles are easter eggs for those of us who work in 3D. I use 3Ds Max for work, and there is an auto-generate tea kettle model button. Usually just a quick and easy way for testing lighting, materials, or as an obstacle for collision properties like animating a cloth falling onto it.

The Utah Teapot is a common computer graphics test model since it’s fairly simple & comes with the challenge of an object rendering a shadow onto itself
I wonder if messing with the NPC's is going to come back to bite them.
If they learn the truth all they would need to do is make it so Caine can't poof them out of existence.

I do just want to point out that when Cain said a “new AI,” he wasn’t talking about a generative AI to write the stories. He was talking about the NPC’s behavioral AI that lets then act and talk and stuff
You know…I think MatPat really was onto something when he said Pomni is Jesus. Notice how she was immediately going through that existential state like Kafmo in the beginning and at the end of the episode yet she’s still strangely…fine? At first from episode one, I just assumed oh that’s her character so it won’t qualify but then I rethought that sentence. That’s her character…it won’t qualify so what exactly would qualify her to abstract if she’s already in an a state that would trigger that affect?

I feel like having more npcs with more humane/realistic behaviour would help them not abstract as fast, since they could in a way simulate real life with a variety of nps, kinda like a society
Ragatha says there's no hard feelings, but you can see the sadness on her face when Pomni doesn't say anything in response. I think they'll have a heart to heart later in the series, where Ragatha will call Pomni out for never actually apologizing for what happened.
Zooble was one of the characters I most wanted to see, logically, this character disappears from the adventure 😂
The moment Gummigoo and Pomni started bonding I was like "Something bad is gonna happen to him" so I saw it coming, but I still let out a gasp/scream of distress and rage when it happened. Fucking Caine. RIP Gummigoo.

Best to hope for is that Caine uses him for something else and that he still remembers Pomni.

For the less read people out there, the Fudge is a straight-up reference to the Greedy from Raggedy Ann and Andy a Musical Adventure. A semi-surrealist film based on the title toy characters.
The Greedy was a sentient being made of taffy, who would keep eating himself, and the assortment of candy that made up his body, but because he's trapped inside a giant pit, it wasn't actually going anywhere, so it kept floating back up to the surface causing a perpetual cycle of him eating.

Humans are just a bunch of memories in a body formed by a specific genetic code and sculpted by user input. All forms of life are collections of information. Information by itself can also be life, with or without a biology.

It shows several emotions within the span of a second, but it's hard to catch them all first try, unless you pause the video.

As an aside, I feel with the reactions I may be one of the few I've seen between reactors and commentors to get a certain vibe from the fudge and Ragatha, the Raggedy Ann and Andy movie, among its many surreal acid trip scenes was a giant blob monster made of candy...that wanted to eat Raggedy Anne's heart which was apparently a candy piece.

i feel like if we agree that cain is sentient then we can assume that this is a fiction where ai can reach sapience in general. like, even a human brain is just a computer in its construction and structure. wetware is a concept being looked into in general, like, doing a computer with organic matter so it will "think" faster and work like neurons do. when you think about it nobody is really real, just chemical reactions happening moment to moment.
Kaufman was a performance artist who would pretend to be a comedian but would go up on stage to make the audience uncomfortable. So he was a comedian and nobody laughed at. Like Kaufmo.
Kafka wrote a book called metamorphosis about a guy who inexplicably transforms into a giant cockroach with his mind and personality intact in an otherwise paralyzed body. Like Kaufmo.
Even if Caine doesn't consider NPC's to be living beings,getting rid of them is still a lot of work gone to waste!

Jax is 100% a "murder hobo", Pomni is still questioning reality, the AIs are getting kind of intelligent *and I am wandering if Cain is keeping these maps around out in the void and they continue to exist when the "players" aren't there or if they freeze or reset after, like maybe the maps are out in the void somewhere and that's why Caine was concerned Pomni being out in the void might spoil something (spoil seeing the other maps). It would be a neat concept to keep them going like Caine is just creating worlds like a bored, idiot, god, without realizing it. So the Circus would the hub and the other areas are different sandbozes.

This episode ended in a much more hopeful way than the first.
Maybe episode 3 will be a little more wholesome because Pomni is relaxing.

Caine calls the Gloinks "humanoid hashbrowns", after all, and that phrase feels like an apt way to describe an abstracted human mind, though maybe with the Gloinks and the Gloink Queen, they could be many NPCs being ran by one abstracted mind, with half dedicated to the queen and half dedicated to the swarm, and when Caine talks about trying a new AI that's much more immersive, perhaps he's having every important NPC each use one whole abstracted mind
Hence Gummigoo is able to be existentially awakened because he technically has a full human mind (possibly even the one that was once Kaufmo), and Caine is so visibly worried about confusing humans and NPCs, because to him, maybe human minds and Gummigoo's mind look exactly the same, so he has to immediately delete Gummigoo before he loses track of him
Which is even more terrifying to consider, because maybe he has the power to just blink Pomni and the others out of existence if he chooses :o

Slight issue with this is Caine explicitly says in the pilot "one of the few things i don't have control over are your minds" so out side of lifting them i don't think he can directly interact with the humans abstracted or not
Interesting fact: the name Pomni is translated from Russian as Remember.

THIS THIS THIS!!! This is EXACTLY what I’ve been saying. Right down to the part where they both seem to think background characters are just robots. The “I’m disappointed” thing he said at the end made me think EXACTLY of Simon. I have a gut feeling that by the end of the show he’s going to be right up there with Simon and Valentino on the list of most hated characters XD
