    The bleach method i used before and it works great..Being elderly i bought a battery powered light pressure sprayer that holds two gallons of liquid..did the mix..the sprayer i bought has a telescopic wand so i didn't have to get up on the roof and could reach just from the ladder at the gutter line..The first time i tried this method i wasn't sure what the result would be and to my horror after a few days my roof looked awful as the moss was dying..but to my delight and after a few rains it returned to normal as it was only discolored from the dead moss and once it washed away it looked great..Not only did it clean up the moss but to this day which is about 5 years later the moss has never grown back..Thanks for this video for those who may not have known..The bleach method works 100% and don't worry if you get some discoloration it may or may not happen but if it does it will clear up after a couple of rains..it is only temporary until the moss falls away by wind or rain..

    It is well that you are doing a video. You have a good modulation to your voice you talk at a speed where people can understand even take notes. You have good information you plan out what your videos going to be and you get into your video before a minute is done. Many of these things other people do not do and it’s most annoying. So thank you for having such a fantastic video.

    Why would you use a metal wire brush on an asphalt shingle roof? Are you trying to destroy the shingles as fast as you can? Just use a broom. Something that isn't so aggressive.

      What about spraying it first to kill the moss, then should I be able to lift the moss with a soft bristle brush?

      Better off using a medium stiff floor push broom. Use very little pressure ( don’t lean into it ) . The goal is to agitate the moss you won’t and shouldn’t get rid of all of it with the brush.

    Will the bleach discolor shingles?

    • @KellyConcepts
      @KellyConcepts  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, in fact I’ve now upgraded to pool chlorine which is just bleach but 3x as potent as household bleach. Mix 1 part pool chlorine (12.5% bleach) with 1 part water, spray it on your roof, and watch it clean itself with little effort.

  • @rtel123

    The bleach method apparently is recommended by shingle manufacturers, and works well. However, we can learn from someone i watched do it who did not realize how slippery bleach is! Word to the wise, walk backward while spraying, not forward. :)

    never use a wire brush on asphalt shingles, when you remove the granules, you destroy the shingles....so it has been said on other vids by experts. Reason why I know this is because i did it and found out later why we shouldnt ever use that kind of force on those types of shingles. Peace

    • @frankiethefish73
      @frankiethefish73 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It won't discolor the shingles themselves, but it will lighten any organic material that is still left on the shingles so there will be an overall lighter tone to the areas you've applied the bleach. Make sure you wear old clothes when you apply the bleach.

    First….use a medium stiff bristle push broom without applying any pressure, just glide over the roof. You want to agitate the moss, get rid of some but not remove very much of the “ pebbles “ on the shingles. If you make your own moss soaker include a few tablespoons worth of a quality dish soap as well a# the water and bleach. Pick a day where the weather has been dry for a few days and 5he forecast is for at least 3-5 dry days afterwards. You want that moss to be thirsty so it absorbs all the liquid. Soak the area down really well. After a couple weeks, check the roof. If there’s still substantial moss remaining, apply the liquid method again. If you don’t get a good rain and wind in the next month or so, get up there with 5he hose has rinse everything off. Check your eavetroughs and the down spouts to remove any remains moss, dirt etc. Check the roof for moss regrowth again in a few months, more or less depending on how much has returned. Get if early next time.

    I have been cleaning roofs for 15 years always use a wire brush on concrete tiles only. Then apply a chemical call hypochlorite using a pressure sprayer. It will kill all moss and bacteria on your roof and bleach your tiles to a new state. 😉

      no, in fact I'm actually now using a 1/1 ratio of pool chlorine and water. So 1 cup chlorine for 1 cup water. Pool chlorine is much cheaper and potent than regular house bleach. This works like a charm on siding, concrete, roofs, etc.
