    Hi Josh, thanks, sir. Prepared for toefl for 2 days using your videos. The videos helped me a lot. Not a stellar score: R - 28; L-28; S-26; W=24. It serves my purpose though. And I want to thank you for the great free content you have created.
    My experience:
    1. Wtite at least a few essays for both integrated and independent writing; you need to familiarise yourself with the toefl format. I made the mistake of assuming my English was "ok" enough and didn't do much on that part. That's not a right thing to do, however. Do a few samples. That helps.
    2. Listening. Please don't put your headphone down before you complete all the Listening questions. I inadvertently did so; I missed almost half a minute from a lecture. Probably some questions I got wrong were from the part I missed.
    3. If you're used to typing on a laptop, I think it would help to get some practice typing on a desktop keyboard. My test center had an old desktop with keyboard that had protruding keys. I was not used to that type of keys. So the typing got really slow as I had to edit a lot of spelling errors I made because of touching multiple keys while attempting to hit one particular key. So a bit of practice helps.
    Speaking was fine. English is my third language.
    Thanks from the cold Himalayas.

    Hey man! I just wanted to stop by and say thank you! I just got my toefl scores, and thanks to you i am able to join the university i wanted to join. I crushed the target of my uni by alot, and your videos really helped. I got l(30) r(30) s(27) w(21) and i needed an average of 20 to be able to apply. I accidentally messed up am/pm so i had to get up at 2 am to take the test but i clicked your video before the test and scrolled to the end. Your positivity motivated me and gave me enough energy to take the test, so thanks. Greetings from the Netherlands, and keep helping other people in reaching their toefl goals!

  • @sampzoki8126
    @sampzoki8126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, Josh
    What about the word ‘support’ in the question?
    When a paragraph states that
    ‘What does paragraph 2 support?’
    Is this an inference question?
    If not, what kind of question is it?

    • @TSTPrep
      @TSTPrep  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there and thank you for your question. Inference questions usually use the verb "infer, imply, or suggest" so it depends on the answer choices. If the choices are not directly stated in the paragraph and are more like conclusions based on the information, then it would be an inference, but if it contains details from the text, it would be factual information.
      In other words, I am not sure, it would depend on the choices. Interesting question though, have you seen that wording anywhere?

    there is noting wrote in passage? about simpler? people believe?

    • @spencersedano
      @spencersedano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe because it says that it may -seem- like a technological sophisticated, but they've been doing it for a long time, since at least 1627.
      Another reason is because all three questions above are incorrect. D is NOT incorrect, it doesn't actually say that it is simpler, but you can see that is not incorrect comparing to the other choices. That's how I understand it.

    To me, listening and writing, partly speaking is fine, but READING. I really cannot read I can only score below 15, while others are over or close to 20...
    Is there any way that I can read faster and understand the content?

    • @TSTPrep
      @TSTPrep  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi dog lover and thank you for your question. When it comes to reading, the best way to improve is to read. If you struggle a lot with the TOEFL Reading, I would suggest investing time in a site like LingQ where you can do some extensive reading that is not connected to the TOEFL, that way you can build your skills and vocabulary with text that is a little bit easier before moving ahead with the TOEFL. If you need to talk to a teacher, you could also try a trial lesson at this link and they can give you some pointers - tstprep.com/toefl-store/

      Hi Diyar Haider and thank you for your question! First of all, I would double-check to make sure you are taking the PBT because I heard that test was completely canceled.
      As for the TOEFL iBT® Paper Edition, you can find useful information here - tstprep.com/articles/toefl-ibt-paper-edition-your-top-10-questions-answered-by-ets/ Hope this helps and good luck!

    Hi there! Thank you for the videos, it help A LOT! I’ve already learned so many things watching your videos. I take an exam on June 8th, so I will share my experience after that:)
    And I have a question about this example on 9:25 minutes “unlike most other academic field, business leaders immediately understood…”. I cannot understand why does it mean that usually business leaders weren’t interested in academic fields? It seems to me like this sentence says that business leaders saw that positive impact unlike other academic institutions, that didn’t. Please, could you explain this example, I want to understand rather than just skip it. Thanks in advance!

    • @TSTPrep
      @TSTPrep  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, Thanks for your question. Yes, this can be tricky, the phrase “unlike most other academic fields, business leaders immediately understood…” can imply in the other fields, some things were not immediately understood. In many cases, sentences like this allow for more than one possible inference to be made.
      Let me know if this is still unclear to you. I would also say focus on the other examples as those are more linear in their connection.

    Hey Josh thank you for your videos! I got L30 R30 S23 and W26 and I only prepared myself for 4 days with your videos. Sadly, the uni I'm applying for requires me to get at least 24 in each section, so I failed the speaking part. I'm not giving up so I am going to take it again this sunday, and I have 2 questions for you:
    1) In the speaking part in all but one part I didn't have enough time to say all that I wanted and the recording cut before I could even finish the last sentence. I've read that this is heavily penalized. Do you think that if I improve my timing I could conquer that one single point I'm missing?
    2) I am willing to pay for one of the services you offer, but I don't know which one would help me the most considering I only need to improve on the speaking part, and that I only have 3 days to prepare.
    I'm desperate, please help me! haha
    Thank you very much for all the help!

      The Nacho One, thank you for commenting and congrats on your R - L- W scores :) You might not have enough time at this point, but I would recommend a speaking evaluation - tstprep.com/toefl-store/toefl-speaking-evaluation/ - this 30-minute call was designed to give students like you feedback on their strengths and weaknesses.
      As for timing, look at the clock 1-2 times when you speak and it should help you finish up on time.
      If you are looking for some last-minute tips, you might find this guide useful - drive.google.com/file/d/1H_iOHFkz3bXdQArhonZtA_6cZ3Sxs9X-/view

      Hi, I'm very impressed with your reading and listening scores. I'm taking TOEFL on June 19th and really need some people with good results to share their experience. Can I have your email, please?

    • @TheNachoOne
      @TheNachoOne 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@anne7939 sorry, I just read this. Besides the tips that you can find in these videos of TST, I would strongly recommend going straight to the questions on the reading part instead of giving the text a full read first. I took the TOEFL twice and got 30 in the reading both times doing this. It will save you time. Also in the questions when they ask you to pick the important ideas of the text, go back to the text and check in how many paragraphs that idea is. Sometimes these ideas are barely mentioned and you can discard them. For the listening, I can recommend you to write as much as you can in your notes, but always listening carefuly, you have to practice that in order to be able to take good notes and understand everything. And a practical tip here, erase your notes before pressing next, because the recording will start playing immediately and you will loose time erasing the board instead of taking notes. I hope it helps :)

    • @TSTPrep
      @TSTPrep  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there and thank you for your question. You can get an extended Reading version, which is 4 passages instead of 3, 40 questions instead of 30, and 72 minutes to finish instead of 54 minutes. Just know that for the extended version one of the passages is an "experimental" passage and it will not count to your final grade. I hope this helps!

      The requirements for each university vary significantly. Therefore, it is always important to check with the program you are applying to.
      Some common scoring thresholds are a 90 or above.
      However, they might not be as strict about the scores these days.
