Rust Protecting our Classic Volvo 740 with FLUID FILM!

  • Fighting the classic car rust battle by undercoating a couple of 1980's Volvo 740s with Fluid Film, a lanolin based rust prevention. We talk about some of the more common rust spots on these cars and then get to under sealing with a spray gun and air compressor, across the floor pans, inside the frame and sills and everywhere else.

    It was cool to see the streets of Berlin! I give you props for being able to drive in large cities like that. I'm so used to country and rural town driving that big congested cities tend to stress me out. 🤣
    I have heard that this stuff is incredible. I really should try it out before this winter to prevent my cars from rotting out underneath!
    Great action shots too! It honestly looks kinda fun to do this!

      I get super stressed mate, never been able to get used to it! Definitely try it out mate, it's great to keep the salt from just chewing straight through the metal

    Good to have protection against future rust. I have cruise control on my 1988 745 and it's original, but I don't use it very often.

      It's definitely worth it if you want to keep it! I'm in the process of undercoating the 240 with something that makes it a little bit nicer to work under the car afterwards (Owatrol) video on that coming soon!

    Great job - hopefully keeps the rust at bay for many years! Those cruise controls were sold in the 80's and 90's - I couldn't afford one so tried using one from a scrap yard but never got it working, thank god - looking back it wouldn't have had much in the way of safety!!!

    Great vid! Nice being driven through Berlin. Good thing about the lanolin-based stuff, it's pretty harmless so no worries about spilling it.
    Rust. A big issue. So I heard anyway.

      Yeah exactly, it was dripping for days after, but didn't feel bad about it like I would have with using motor oil 😬

    Cruise control - not just on the 760! My 89 740GL has factory cruise control and it's still funtioning!

      Yes, cruise control was quite common on the American/Canadian market 740's - less common in other markets.

      @@Involvod 240 850 740 and 940 Volvo's will always have a special place in my heart especially the 740 as when working with my uncle we had both 740 and 940 but the 740 was most used thing never broke down just wouldn't die all we ever done was breaks and exhaust normal minor stuff then the 850 glt was a weekend car for us but 240 well that was the one Volvo I owned just to my self was quite an early one I think 88 it had corvette wheels on with spacers and I did lower the car nothing to bad tho still very practical and usable I brought it of a local doctor who owned the car from new lots of happy memories with that car unfortunately driving is long behind me for the time being unfortunately my mum has termnal cancer so money is focused on making her life eiser hopefully I can get my self another some day before they become to much to offord

      @@Involvod wheels cost more than the car with tyres I spent alot of money on the car people said I was wasting my time as the car was automatic but that diddnt bother me and I'd like to think I do my first engine swap was done on a Volvo as well as the first car I drove was a 740gle and thankyou the sad thing is she is only 46 as had me at 20 the family has come to terms with the fact we will loose her some time soon so making what life she has left good she said she wants me to get back on the road and enjoy my life so hopefully some day a new Volvo I'd like 240 again but any pre 90.s Volvo would be good then a big driving holiday Mabey out of the UK if possible

    I must look out for that stuff. I have used Waxoyl and a couple of other wax type products but they tend to flake off the outer surfaces.

      I heard mixed things about Waxoyl, to be honest I've never heard a bad thing about Fluid Film!

    Have you ever tried chainsaw bar oil? I haven’t came across anything better than this . You can also thin it up with diesel or acetone for cavities.

      I was actually going to try it on the 240, but then I got recommended Owatrol, which I've applied to the 240 and I'm really happy with it so far, video to come on that in the next week or 2 hopefully!

      WD40 is worthless on it's own for protecting against rust, sorry. It's better used for displacing the water in there before applying a rust protectant. Fluid film is great, however and I can really recommend it
