Ive been living in Sweden for almost 3 years now and have experienced racism a couple of times. I don't understand why the Swedes deny this fact. Of course not all are racists but many are and it is super hard to blend into the society as an immigrant. Probably the worse place to immigrate if you want to work, just seeing your cv indicating where you got your education is already a huge disadvantage. I am here as a wife, a mother and now a university again because they don't seem to trust people doing white collar jobs if not educated in their own beloved country.
I live in Sweden too and It is 100% true. Sad stuff is they deny it. Is like a silence racism. Because they won’t scream things at you but the actions like you said is what they do and thats racism.
so Swedish people cant be upset when someone lies about their country being racist ? or they cant contest her claims ? you people have no idea what real racism is and you got to keep concentrating on the small negative details instead of the bigger positives and when it comes to sweden there is more positive things to be said, this person in the video is just another person who loves playing the victim to sound as if shes been through some struggle
As a Black Romanian also a Lesbian I have experienced a lot of racism, homophobia and people calling me a “terrorist” Swedish people are usually nice from what I heard but not from my experience...
I have to say this is true. My brother lived there from 2005-2011 in Malmo and Helsingborg with his wife who had immigrated there in the 80s with her family after the fall of Saigon. Racism in Sweden is hushed up but my little niece experienced it first hand being bullied for being Asian from kindergarten to 2nd grade without repercussion from the school's administration. Furthermore, when she had to go to urgent care the hospital staff sent her home even though she had a high grade fever and green mucous. However they would let many swedes go ahead of her with not nearly severe symptoms as her. It wasn't until my brother threatened legal action and a written document confirming why they sent her home with out medication even. As a family of healthcare professionals here in the US we were appalled at their blatant negligence. Don't get me wrong... All countries have their flaws. The problem with Sweden is they have a diminishing younger population and an ever ballooning amount of elder/retirement age population that require Sweden's equivalent of social security and government aid. Therefore, they give a faux friendly immigration stance and open their doors to immigrants so they can fill this taxation void all the while promising opportunity. However, little do the immigrants know... They will not be given equal opportunities as the Swedes even if they have far superior grades and work ability.... Case in point my sister in law's nephew who graduated top of his class from Upsala Uni and went on to become a dentist but is still without a job after 2 years . Sad but true. Luckily my brother and his family left ... Niece is flourishing here in California and has made honor roll every year since.
The idea that Sweden has an aging population and need to increase immigration because of that is false. Sweden has one of the highest birth rates in the West. It is used as a propaganda argument from the left.
i spent time in Göteborg and Stockholm (s/o to Farsta…and that club Sturdekompaniet…KILLED the spelling but you know lol). It's hard for me to say ONLY because I'm American. I know 100% I get a "Pass" because I'm American in MOST places worldwide. When I'm on the train, i noticed how people paid me extra attention because of my accent and spoke to me. My friends there are from Bangladesh and they say a lot of similar things as Mapei. Simply put, Racism is subtle to the untrained eye…EX. Its quite easy for a guy to say sexism doesn't exist. If its not blatant, it can go unrecognized because we don't see things the way women will.
rtyujih No... I'm not giving you a pass on that one. First off: Rasism is the idea that people are divided into races and that these races can be structured in a hierarchy where some races are worth more than others. Confusing racism with inexperience or aversion with foreigners/foreign cultures is NOT beneficial to the discussion. In fact, I would say it is in fact detrimental. So, that said... How did you manage to differentiate between feeling rejected because of A: Racism B: Inexperience C: Aversion D: The natural coldness that _anyone_ gets from Swedish and Finnish people as opposed to the open arms greetings that you get from someone closer to the Equator. Yes, native english speakers has an easier time to break the ice because we Swedes JUMP on any and all opportunities to train our English language skills. We are extremely EAGER to learn English. It is a great ice-breaker... However, lacking that ice-breaker, we are equally cold against everyone. I honestly do not understand how you differentiate between A/B/C and D... Please... Don't cry wolf until you see the damn thing!
In laws Sweden is not racist but in reality the country is quite racist. Example: -Google... racist cake in sweden! -The third largest party is called ''Swedish democrats'', a racist party -Most white people in Sweden still says the n-word, even if blacks say it hurts -There's a day called ''n-ball day'', its on the 11'th may -Most clubs don't let you in because you're black or an immigrant -Finding a job is harder because the bosses are mostly prejudice List can go on...
zirpa1 1. that cake was made by a black man as a piece of art made to highlight the issue of female circumcision. 2. the swedish democrats are the sixth biggest party with 20 mandates of 349. every other party recents them 3.most people do not use the n-word in sweden 4.it is called Chokladbollens dag (chocolate ball day) very few people still say niggerball mostly old stubborn people who dont want to change what they have always said. 5. Clubs dont let you in becouse you are black? i really dont believe that and if they really do report them. 6. this may be true in some cases but lets make clear that it is hard for everyone to get a job so dont call people racist just cause you dont get a job.
I see there's a lot of debate in the comment's section. I'll try to give non-swedes a picture of racism in Sweden, maybe it's a help to understand the debate. In Sweden skin color affect peoples' chances on the job market, in housing and in health care. This is by no means unique for Sweden. But when you say this out loud, people for some reason get mad at you. Often they exclaim "I'm not racist!" and take it very personally if you tell them about how racism affects people in their everyday lives. You can clearly see the phenomenon among the comments here. Mapei tells about her own experience and some people from Sweden get angry at her. They're not angry that she's been called different slurs, they're just angry she speaks about it. In Sweden people are not used to non-whites speaking for themselves. I work in the media sector so I know this by experience. If a non-white shows up in swedish media, that person will definitely receive death threats. Non-whites have long been pushed in the corner but we are taking up more and more space and I seriously believe that in 50 years Sweden will be a lot better when it comes to this kind of issues. Two details in the interview: 1. Mapei talks about "n-word ball". This is a chocolate sweet. Some people get reaaaaally angry if you ask them to please just call it "chocolate ball". They see it as you are offending them when they don't get to say the n-word. 2. Mapei talks about the racist party being third largest party in Sweden. This party comes from a white supremacism movement called "BSS". Their leading figures call immigrants "parasites" and other slurs. If you happen to say that this bashfully racist party is racist, some people will get angry at you because the party "doesn't call itself racist" and since they don't do that, they impossibly can be racists. 1 and 2 just shows how immature the discussion about racism is in Sweden. My personal opinion is that racism is probably the greatest back side of Sweden. But Sweden also's got a lot of things that are great and make it unique. Probably the best things in Sweden are free education, lots of nature, and our constitution (it's a long story, just trust me on this one!).
I'm sorry but you got no clue what u talking about. 1. n-word ball, 95% of the swedish people dont use that name anymore, cause then we are being called racists, and that's appearently a big deal. 2. It's not a racist party... They wont to reduce the amount of immigrants sweden accept, that's it. Swedish people gets called racists for every litle thing. We wanna reduce the amount of immigrants and that is racist really? We cant take care of more people, we dont have the money for it. Immature? The swedish people are the ones who being discriminated if any. You have no idea what you talking about at all. Swedish people cant even speak up without being called racists. So stop reading bullshit on the internet.
2SiLence4 "95%" are you kidding me?!?!!?! i hear that word in school EVERYDAY...everyone says it, and honestly i can't remember last time i heard something say "chokladbollar" its always "niggerballs"
snuffeldjuret I'm not going to dismiss people's personal experiences and historical events that happened in Sweden just so then you can feel better about your country. :)
I feel very disappointed that people are trying to discredit her experience, rather than empathize. You're mad that she's talking about, rather than the fact that she experienced it. She's not saying that everything is bad in Sweden; they just started talking about her experience and ended up on that topic. Face it, our "default" setting is racism. We discriminate based on sight, smell, sound, etc., because that's our primary way to assess the situation. And you may not have ill intentions but that's how you are. To be not racist takes effort. Acknowledge it and work to overcome it.
wlehdi The funny thing is that people always claim that "those white people in that country are so racist", but they don't seem to understand how racist that thought is by itself.
FrancoUnAmericano No. Ism is a suffix meaning system. So racism is really race system. People are stupid forgetting this. Now the real meaning is hidden to hide the facts. I have many white friends. I can honestly say white people have been better to me then members of my family, but even in your definition many blacks scared for their lives every week now we are seeing a black man being killed with no answers. It's like a living nightmare and been going on for many years. As far as this girl goes that's probably the reason why she take what is said be little in the comment section as big things.
+wlehdi she is taking her experience and generalizing the entire population, that is why people dont express their empathy for her. It is bad to suggest all swedes are bad because you met one bad swede just like it is bad to suggest that all immigrants are bad because you met one bad immigrant. Really, it isn't more complicated than that.
Mapei speaks alot of truth. I'm from Sweden myself and all though it's got alot of good sides to it, the racism for sure is alive. Hopefully she gets invited back again for a more in depth interview about her music! I think she's dope, has a great soulful voice and alot to say. She ain't plastic like alot of artists nowadays wich is refreshing and needed. Bigup giiiaallllll do your thang! Peace.
Ain't plastic? Trying to get street cred by pretending she grow up in the Swedish "ghetto" with no CDs and racist swedes? XD Kom igen hon skämmer ut sig bara.. Kanske dags att skippa offerkoftan och sjunga istället för det är hon bra på ;-)
How are all of these racist comments getting so many thumbs ups? Who are you to say she is lying about her own experiences? You didn't live her life! Your racist and ignorant comments just make what she is saying sound true.
Just cause she got discriminated does not mean she has knowledge about what is going about in Sweden lol. maybe u think so just cause she has some african extract??? that is racist u know that right ;))? she has no clue about what racisim is or what is going on in sweden. she is an artist lol
I'm a swede living about 500 meters from a red area or as the police call it "no-go zone" and I can confirm what she's saying is complete bullshit. Immigrants are priviledged beyond measures in sweden.
As part of my experience, Sweden is the worst country and the most racist in all the countries I lived in. The worst 2 years of my life were the ones in Sweden, they are too much racist people up to a level that they don't realize it. Simply it is the chapter of my life I wish to delete.
Sweden is the most racist because all the countries around Sweden there is not a lot of people to be racist against. And cause the Swedes are pissed cause there taking too many immigrants. th-cam.com/video/3KSJY0c8QWw/w-d-xo.html
Sweden is among the least racists countries according to global surveys. I guess people didn't like you because you act bad. Instead of looking at your behavior you blame it on racism. They don't like me because they racist.
@@notsureiL Are you for real? someone is detailing their experience and you say it's because of their behavior? I'm not even gonna go into the person's behavior but there is no excuse for racism! It's because of people like you that it will never end. Who told you the guy was bad anyways?????
@@notsureiL You are so stupid and surely a racist yourself. I lived in Sweden as well and there are many racist people there. Educate yourself! What about starting by reading books? I bet you never read a single one in your life!
Class difference is very big in Sweden?? She needs to travel more. Sweden is one of the less class-divided societies in the world. Just the UK is 100 times worse. But there's indeed a lot of racism. Not overtly most of the time, but definitely there. That's why I left Sweden, I had enough.
she just says what she went through and you have the audicity to say, that Sweden is not racist. Just like here in the Netherlands. When you say to people they are racist they get offended and be like no we are not. Just deal with how we are, or leave the country. We can only change if we look into ourselves and realise that some of our actions are racist. Well u may not be racist, but what about your friends or family members? The racist party is the 3th biggest party in Sweden, I guess that says enough about how people feel.
People who deny that racism exists must either be living in a little bubble of candy floss or have some dubious ideas about what equality really is. Those of us who aren't blond in Sweden know what the reality is when it comes to racism, because we suffer from it everyday. It's not pretty.
Xenophobic far-right parties have gained influence all over Europe and it is deeply troubling. I think it has much to do with the economic depression and the wars in the middle east region causing massive migration to Europe, and I would personally hold the United States responsible for both.
Hmm.. Funny how the only people in the comment section that don't agree with Mapei's opinion of sweden seem to be rich white upper to middle class swedish inhabitants. This is not an accusation, more like an observation.
That I think is coz these people that you speak about are the one who love Sweden the most and get offended and react when Mapei is giving such a negative image of Sweden. Take it from me, Sweden is like the least racist country in the world and that open there arms to immigrants the most. I'm Latino, not rich and I like Mapeis song by the way.. But this is not good for here image I think.
Miguel Anjel Living in Sweden as a latino/spanish person (or other types of euro/american immigrants) and as a black/arab/roma person are very, very different things.
"Can't get what they want" as in "being treated like an equal human being"? You're hilarious. You're basically making a racist comment to complain about people pointing out that racism is racist. I guess the irony must be lost on you darling.
Racism is everywhere, but in my experience, Sweden is way more racist than for example the states. Europe as a whole has a racism problem. In the south it is blatant and open, in the east it is ignorance and disinterest, and in the north it is very institutionalised and passive-aggressive. Different kinds, same intensity. Just look at all the youtube comments of Swedish videos. If i had a krona for everytime i heard someone bring up my ethnicity or nationality without me even mentioning it, thinking im always ready to have a political debate with them as if i represent my entire group of people...well, let's just say i wouldnt have to work a day in my life.
I think it's sad that she's sharing her own PERSONAL experience living in sweden and people are saying she's lying or what not. Well for one, we're not exactly positive if she is lying or not. Also this is her experience as a mixed race female in a predominantly white country, maybe some swedish people don't see what she sees especially if they're white. If this is her personal experience, it's her experience. We can't just say that she's lying or whatever.
+Lurdz C The thing is...all minorities living in a countriy majority x race will face discrimination to some extent period, the only ones stupid or self hating enough to commit colective suicide for the sake of politicall correctness are europeans....the western world was the fist in aboloshing slavery,it was still legal in the middle east and north africa till the 60s,etc...also the left only aims to correction of the white man history,as long a non white did it its ok To explain how retarded a wrold ruled by social justice is this example Give me back my land!!!-said the native american sioux Will you give it back to the cheyyene after what you did to them in black hills?-said the white man Oh no!!-said the sioux
I´m really sorry Maipei went through hard times because of her skin tone here in sweden but sadly the racism and hostility towards immigrants gets worse and worse and it´s scary. Hopefully we can get it to change soon but I sincerely doubt it :(
+snuffeldjuret Shh, Nina is brainwashed by the media. She doesn't know about the scale that Middle Eastern immigrants rape Swedish women. She wants to stay in her own little bubble. Don't be a bubble-burster!
I'm half Swedish and Colombian. The first 10 years of my life I lived in Stockholm, and yes, the city is nice; although I have horrible memories involving both children and adults talking racist nonsense about me. I've detached myself so much from my Swedish side because of the awful experiences thar I've had with Swedes (That are not related to me), I even forget most of the language, because it's too difficult to find a Swede who wants to practice the language with me because I don't look like them. Sure, they are all not the same; but when people who had never been there and as soon as they hear the relation I've got with the country, thet start ranting "Why? Sweden is such a great country" It's a great country for tourism, I wouldn't live there anymore, I've been there a few times and I love the countryside, but the actual people, despicable.
Sweden is very middle eastern. Arabs are seen as part of society. I’m black but nobody called me n-word but it’s racist in other ways like people will stare and certain jobs are impossible to get no matter how educated you are in the field. They also have stereotype thinking of blacks. Sweden still has a long way to go when it comes to accepting blacks into their society. There are also many eritreans in Sweden and many of them do not claim to be black. So yes lots of light skinned people and dark Gambians. Most foreigners there think that by oppressing blacks they get more acceptance into Swedish society.
A racist parti is not the biggest parti in Sweden and we are not racist! I feel kinda insulted by this since I'm swedish. Also guys, don't get the wrong picture here. Sweden is not a racist country!
She said that it was the third biggest and according to the opinion polls that existed when she gave that interview, she was correct. Let's just all hope that they won't be after the elections in September
Jullbab Yes it is. Sweden has a bad reputation with immigrant intolerance. They even attack immigrants. GUYS DON'T GO TO SWEDEN IF U ArE NOT A WHITE EUROPEAN!
so Swedish people cant be upset when someone lies about their country being racist ? or they cant contest her claims ? you people have no idea what real racism is and you got to keep concentrating on the small negative details instead of the bigger positives and when it comes to sweden there is more positive things to be said, this person in the video is just another person who loves playing the victim to sound as if shes been through some struggle
The situation in Sweden. Shits not at all that bad. In fact one of the biggest issue we have right now in my eyes are immigrants who don't want to adapt to their new home. A home which welcomed them with open arms. I don't care what people do at home but when you're outside in public you ought to behave like normal people. And I'm an immigrant myself...
Camtaine82 She is right about chocolate balls and SD. I understand her very well ... Sweden is great in many ways , but many things have changed in the last few years. I am happy to be a "white immigrant" Many have been treated so mean just because if their skin color. Yes, there is immigrants who just want to get everything without working for it, but there is also immigrants who are great human beings, smart and educated. Yes, there are swedes who are really discriminating and mean. But there is also people who fight for immigrants. There is always "the good and the bad" in every country. I love many people in sweden, butI feel so sorry for those who have been hurted i terrible ways...
Racism appears very different when comparing American and European societies. Swedish citizens don't experience "Ferguson", our country doesn't have a history close to the American, although imprints from our eugenic past. Our racism/xenophobia get obvious when observing (the rampage of) right-wing populist parties like "SD" and the normalised oppression in traditions e.g. still referring to chocolate pastries as "Negerbollar". The transatlantic mentalities differ, our fragments of racism (which are hugely damaging) is as absurd to Americans as we think of their legal system and/or common law. Conclusion; Mapei tells no lies. Sweden sure is in the forefront in some aspects, our citizens equal on the paper/in comparison but we're far away from being ideal and tenable. The Swedish dream is a lie, so stop illustrating it.
As a black swede, i do think she exaggerated a little. Yes you can find racism in Sweden, but its not as profound as she claims it to be. Sweden is very inclusive and very multicultural.
If thats what you believe than I can't do nothing but feel sorry for your stupidity. So with that being said, I am going to end this conversation here because I don't want to lower my IQ.
There is indeed, you'll find loads of black swedes in Sweden actually. But in a sense you're right, they should just be called swedes and not black swedes.
***** Again, "black" is not a nationality, I hate to break it to you but you cannot determine where a person comes from just by looking at a person's skin color. There are lots of white people born and raised in Africa!! Have you seen the world?! Anyways, I don't want to invest my time in stupidity. So therefore, good bye.
All SD members are not racist, but most of them are tired of immigrants not respecting Sweden. Most come here and just won't intergrate, then they want Sweden to adjust to them. I live in Sweden as a African American and I try my best to intergrate and respect my host my country. There are a lot of things in Sweden that needs to be improved on and it will take time. As far as the N word I don't let anybody call me the N Word family or not. Mapei had her bad experience just like everybody else, but that don't define you or anybody else.
Their political roots are strongly tied with racism and nazism. Now that is an actual fact. A LOT of SD members have expressed themselves in a very unfortunate way in many social networks, only conforming that racism is accepted and encouraged within SD . Its not hard to see. Politics is more than just an argument about immigrants. But that is mostly what SD only talks about, immigrants, and their distaste for them. They dangle an easy solution in front of us... "blame them". But this is a very complex issue. There are no easy solutions.
Bobban Complex problem, check! No easy solutions, check! The solution of ALL other parties + media? - promote open borders. - promote hate against dissenting opinions. - promote censorship of reverse hatecrime. - promote social marxism. - dismantle our democracy. ...etc, etc, etc... Since our current politicians are too immature to even TALK to SD, the only solution for us voters to regain our democracy - is to vote SD. (I'm still trying to figure out que bono)
Yammo Yammamoto It's funny when people get upset about the fact that other parties choose not to cooperate with SD. Thats how politics work. As a politician you don't have some sort of rule that forces you to include the opposition, of course not. Do you see the far left party "TALK" to the far right party much? no. The disagree, they debate, they are opposites. Their respective voters does not want them to join hands. So why are you and many others reacting so strongly when other political parties decides that they do not want to include SD? Its only natural, it's what's expected of them, AND its their RIGHT. And about your "list" there... just to take one of your silly claims... Do you actually, I mean for real, think that the media and ALL other parties are in cahoots and actively working to dismantle the Swedish democracy? I mean... c'mon...
I'm born and raised in Sweden with roots from Africa and on top of that I'm muslim and wear the head scarf and she gave a very wrong picture of Sweden. She made it seem like we live in the 50ths here. Of course there's racism here and it has grown these last few years but it's not like we're excluded from society.I love this country and consider it my home and I really think she gave such a wrong picture but of course that's her opinion and she's entitled to it.
That's your great response is MOVE? I thought swedes were more educated than that, but let me take that back carbon copies of Americans. If you don't like it MOVE to America oops that's right you can't.
How many swedes do we have that are subscribing to hot97? would be interesting to know! as far as mapei goes.. shes DOPE! i saw her perform 2007 and that shit was good! havent really seen her since. she been grindin!
She is thirty but comes across as if she is twelve. I would of liked her to speak a little bit more openly and intelligently about the serious topics she brought up in the interview. Especially for people who are unfamiliar with her country. Or perhaps she just isn't confident has been told to say something semi controversial to gain interest by folks.
With Sweden's generous welfare system and high wage for unskilled labor I'm surprised she addresses inequality. The unions are strong as well, so job safety is high (Americans wouldn't believe how hard it is to fire someone).
High Wage for unskilled labor? Thats not true at all the working class in Sweden can barely afford rent and food where I live even before Inflation struck so many taxes here.
Lol at all the denial peeps in the comment section! Get over yourself. Sorry, but your country is not perfect like ya'll may want to believe. Welcome to reality!!
I'm Swedish. And what Mapei describes about Sweden feels very foreign to me. I haven't heard anyone here describe a dark-skinned person with the "n-word". That word is in my world somewhat old fashioned, you usually only hear in the movies. Bear in mind that Sweden after Malta received the highest number of refugees per capita throughout Europe last year. It really feels wrong if people get a picture of Sweden as racist. But of course Mapei has right to her own opinion.
Well, I agree & disagree. I am a black young woman, born & raised in Sweden and I've heard people call me the "n-word" more than 10 times. You might not have heard it but it is really common to black people in Sweden. I love Sweden and I can proudly call myself Swedish but some people treat me badly because of my skin color. I think Mapei describes Sweden as a very racist country because in America it's normal with foreign people. In Sweden it isn't as common with foreign people and therefore they are sometimes treated badly. (This is my opinion)
You're just not paying attention. When I was living in Sweden I heard the n-word very often. There is definitely a lot of racism there. If your last name doesn't sound Swedish you'll have a much harder time finding housing or a job.
"Paying attention". I just share my experience. But it's possible that my picture doesn't match the general truth. It's sad to hear that it's that much racism. Perhaps it has awoken in many people because of the great migration? Those who are afraid of change. Like many other countries in Europe doesn't have. But I really hope we can approach a multicultural society. Some may just need a little more time to get used to it. But really, it's just sick. The phenomenon - racism. Just can't understand it.
Oh yeah the class-difference between people in Sweden is enormous. If you're well-educated and driven you will most likely find a job. But if you dont have an education at all and can't find a job the state will still support you (you have the right to an income similar to minimum-wage in the states, but without working) until you find one. It's soooo unfair!!! (im being sarcastic)
It's not a big class difference but Sweden is one of the most ethnically segregated countries, that's true and has the biggest gap in employment between the native population and the immigrant population in the OECD.
BIG FAT NO. If you're well educated then you can find a job easiely, but only if you're Swedish. Your chances in finding a job in Sweden is limited if you are an immigrant. No matter how educated, smart and ambitious you are. I'm being serious.
Well, please remember that Sweden and any northern European country are native white countries. So, it is what it is. If you visit a European country, you are a guest. Don't assume that they are going to put you on a pedestal or that you are more 'unique'.
Wearing a swedish flag on a any clothing is now racism in sweden... We can wear any other flag than the swedish one... Who are discriminating who really....
I will (for the first time in my life) wear clothes with the swedish colors on this summer, just because it's my right to do so. Would never do it if it weren't for the "fact" that you can't do it without being called a racist. And since I'm not a racist I will prove that you can.
Racism in sweden is primarily instititional, and the culture has been infected as a side-effect. But swedes are in essence like shy americans. Y'all got it with a bunch of us in the 1800s, so sweden is all up in ur culture-mix as well.
I'm kinda in shock. Granted, I'm a light skinned sucker (like fluorescent white - as white as it fucking gets, 1st gen east european immigrant), but I'm with an asian girlfriend and I've gotta say - We never really experienced what she's portraying, apart from the odd hillbilly it's not a common thing at all. Now. About the N word, I agree - it's pretty widespread. I want to add that I'm neither denying or defending anything. I'm just wondering if I'm the sheltered one or if she's the exception. And I too grew up in a multicultural community - suburbs of Stockholm.
I live in Sweden, and i am from the part of Sweden that she is speaking of, although most of the stuff she is saying is kind of true, Sweden is not a racist country.
Kind of interesting, she cries over the fact that only richer kid's had access to buy hip-hop record's. Did she really believe that you didn't had to work in Sweden. Everything is free. Richer kid's parent's probably had jobs that gave more income or worked if her mom was without job. How does it work in the US. Do people get handouts without working?
i would say that there are countries in europe that are more inclusive than america. particularly the UK, i spent my whole life not feeling or being treated different to white people here. In multicultural countries problems arise when a certain groups start disrupting society i.e. with riots, violence etc. that's why there's a lot of racist feelings towards muslims in europe atm. I'd say, here in the UK, you're more likely to receive race hate if you're muslim/asian (because if you're asian they'll assume you're muslim even if you're sikh/hindu) than if you're black or mixed
I think she is wrong.... I can't speak from her perspectivbe but I have never heard a person that says the n word. People Think that SD (The third lagrest party) is a rasist party but they arent. They are just a party who want to stop the imigration. And it's not rasist to think that! The imigration put a lot of pressure on our welfare system! And it cost a LOT of money. The Swedish democrats want instead focus the resorces on imigration to help people in refugescamp in lebanon and other countries.
That's only because she's 30! The time she grew up in the 80's and 90's, Sweden was completely different from what it is now. Every time I go to Stockholm (the capital) I see so many different people from different parts of the world and everyone gets along. However, I do believe racism can be found there as it can be everywhere else
I love the way she just decided that the entire country is racist and says the N word all the time. Enough about the color get over it, lets move on the world will from now on and always be a mixed race place. And yes back in the day we did use the N word in child songs and there is references to this in Pippi Longstockings but that was in the 60- and 70-. We had a game in daycare called who is afraid of the big black man, and had to run from one end of the room to the other as he tried to catch us. All countries have racism but I think Sweden is the most tolerant in the world. Come visit Ireland where I live now, colored people are definitely not welcome here.
lsamoa I will not argue with that, I've heard my mum use it a good amount of times. But they never really use it in a degrading sense, older people sometimes have the word slip out when they talk och someone who's black because it's a word their used to. Not that, that makes it right, every time I hear my mum use the word I wince and she says that she's sorry for using it. It´s not right to use the word, but I feel that unless you clarify it most people will think that Swedes are running around saying the N word in a racist, evil, degrading way.
Mapei is cool with what she says about Sweden and racism is COMPLETELY WRONG!?? I'm from Sweden and I can GUARANTEE that Sweden does not have worse racist and Nasizm problems than other European countries! Correct fact pleas
I am a white person from Sweden and I love black people, most of my idols are black, but I am an old fart,52.Stevie Wonder is a God! I know nothing about the new music, but Mapei seems like a sweet girl and she is very pretty.I am sad that there is so much rasism in the world and on TH-cam as well! I HATE IT! It really sucks! But remember, Black is Beautiful! Bye bye kids!

I don't agree with everything that this young lady is saying about Sweden. One of the problems is that she did not say much about the things that Sweden does better than other countries. However, I agree with her observation especially when she suggests or imply that Sweden is no longer a progressive country as is it used to be, and that large sections of that society is becoming increasingly racist and anti-foreign although Sweden takes in many immigrants from troubled parts of the world and so on. The evidence for what she is saying about Sweden is provided by the number of the Swedish people here who are denying that racism is a problem in that country, and who are reflecting a narrow and intolerant attitude towards immigrants from Africa and elsewhere who dare to disagree with them on anything about Sweden. I have always considered Sweden to be one of the most progressive countries in the world, and, this is the reason why I am surprised to see all these many negative comments here that reflect so much intolerance and negative comments about the young lady’s experience in Sweden.
Wow, she's so out of her mind speaking of Sweden like that. Sweden is probably the most liberal country in Europe and definitely the most immigration friendly country in Europe and probably in the world. Anyone who lived or lives in Sweden could admit that it doesn't really exist a 'class system' with huge differences in Sweden either. Most is paid by taxes so education (including university)and health care is free. And hundred other things on top of that. Surprisingly sad to hear her speak of Sweden like that. But she's right about the growing anti-immigration waves, but that's something that all of Europe experiencing, just look at the UK right now with UKIP.
Delcio Vieira I'm born and raised in Sweden, lived over 20 years there. So I'm quite sure I got it right. If you stand by Mapei's statement and say that Sweden is a racist country then you don't know what you're talking about and you should probably look at yourself and see what's wrong with you instead of blaming it all on the society. She says she just hanged out with arabs in the projects, yes - it's the same story anywhere in the world if you go and live in a 'concentrated area with immigrants' you will probably end up hanging out with them on a daily basis if you don't take your ass over to other areas and start making friends from other parts of your town. Just because you live in a certain area doesn't stop you from being with people from different backgrounds, right? What's wrong with people nowadays? Just because that you have an anti-immigration party with ~10% in the polls - doesn't make Sweden to a racist country. What I'm saying is that you have these far-right wing parties in most countries over Europe and they're growing as a result of growing problems. Which is natural because the amount of people coming to Sweden for example has been huge. To be able to criticize current politics and try to solve problems instead of just looking down in the ground, aren't you able to do that nowadays? Or is that racist? Then U.S. should be the number one racist country in the world, as they've closed their borders totally and won't let you in unless there's a company that want to hire them. There is one single city in Sweden that welcomed more iraqi refugees after the American invasion in Iraq 2003 than U.S. itself, one single city - in Sweden and we had nothing to do with that war! Sweden offers permanent residency to all Syrian refugees that want to come. So tell me - what other country in the world does something like that? On top of that you have the social securities in Sweden that are top of the line and can't be compared to any other country in the world - and you even get your university degree for free if you want to take that step, not to talk about having free healthcare. So what is it do complain about? That some swedes complaining about old politics and want change? That some swedes doesn't like people from other countries? Those people exists in every country of the world. She's out of her mind that's all I'm saying. I mean she's sitting on radio in U.S. - one of the most divided countries in the world, where they've got a real class society, where real day-to-day racism actually exist, where they still have tensions and hate towards your skin color. If you sit like her here and point out Sweden as a racist country, then I would be very interested to see what you compare it with and what your experiences are. Because to me that sounds like a big lie. Over and out, have a nice weekend!
Agreed! She definitely exaggerated. Sweden as a whole is not racist (especially when comparing to the US). Yes there are racists in Sweden, but they can be found everywhere. No country is perfect.

Every "white" country is racists, so we are just talking about racism taking different forms in different countries. It's not about people being racist but a systematical and structural racism which we of course have in sweden as well. The use of the word "negerboll" is racist and the fact that people are still fighting for their "right" to say it is a clear indication of white privilege and racism. As a white person you cant say "what's there to complain about" because you will never encounter racism on a daily basis, you are the oppressor not the oppressed and therefore have no right to decide what there is to complain about
Ive been living in Sweden for almost 3 years now and have experienced racism a couple of times.
Simply Eve swedes refuse to believe the fact that immigrants can be helpful, nice people with morals. And its disgusting.
you have to go back
I’m really sorry to hear that
I live in Sweden too and It is 100% true. Sad stuff is they deny it. Is like a silence racism. Because they won’t scream things at you but the actions like you said is what they do and thats racism.
Word! This is so true.
She is telling the truth. I live in a ghetto in sweden too. 2-5 white swedish the rest we are immigrant. I make it difficult to integrate.
yeah thats why immigration has been a complete flop and should be stoped

@Rodimus Prime
So many racist people in the comments confirming everything she said.....
+Starryduvet hallaujah speak the truth brother
People like her create the people she's whining about.
Whats wrong with racism?
you mean, confirming iq differences among races
so Swedish people cant be upset when someone lies about their country being racist ? or they cant contest her claims ?
you people have no idea what real racism is and you got to keep concentrating on the small negative details instead of the bigger positives
and when it comes to sweden there is more positive things to be said, this person in the video is just another person who loves playing the victim to sound as if shes been through some struggle
As a Black Romanian also a Lesbian I have experienced a lot of racism, homophobia and people calling me a “terrorist”
Swedish people are usually nice from what I heard but not from my experience...
La fel 🙌
Niece is flourishing here in California and has made honor roll every year since.
sweden has gotten alot worse (more xenophobic) since the 80s, although so has amerika
The idea that Sweden has an aging population and need to increase immigration because of that is false. Sweden has one of the highest birth rates in the West. It is used as a propaganda argument from the left.

That's so true! I live in Göteborg and I get the same thing. I use this as an advantage when it comes to getting into the system.
rtyujih
No... I'm not giving you a pass on that one.
First off:
Rasism is the idea that people are divided into races and that these races can be structured in a hierarchy where some races are worth more than others.
Confusing racism with inexperience or aversion with foreigners/foreign cultures is NOT beneficial to the discussion. In fact, I would say it is in fact detrimental.
So, that said...
How did you manage to differentiate between feeling rejected because of
A: Racism
B: Inexperience
C: Aversion
D: The natural coldness that _anyone_ gets from Swedish and Finnish people as opposed to the open arms greetings that you get from someone closer to the Equator.
Example:
-Google... racist cake in sweden!
-The third largest party is called ''Swedish democrats'', a racist party
-Most white people in Sweden still says the n-word, even if blacks say it hurts
-There's a day called ''n-ball day'', its on the 11'th may
-Most clubs don't let you in because you're black or an immigrant
-Finding a job is harder because the bosses are mostly prejudice
List can go on...
Ill copy this
what are you smoking sir?
zirpa1
Jonatan Nilsson what do you mean?
zirpa1 1. that cake was made by a black man as a piece of art made to highlight the issue of female circumcision.
2. the swedish democrats are the sixth biggest party with 20 mandates of 349. every other party recents them
3.most people do not use the n-word in sweden
4.it is called Chokladbollens dag (chocolate ball day) very few people still say niggerball mostly old stubborn people who dont want to change what they have always said.
5. Clubs dont let you in becouse you are black? i really dont believe that and if they really do report them.
6. this may be true in some cases but lets make clear that it is hard for everyone to get a job so dont call people racist just cause you dont get a job.
Love this sister, Thankyou for bringing to light some of the realities of "liberal Sweden".
Two details in the interview:

If you don't believe what Mapei said about Sweden being racist...just read the comments..
ArtistoftheWeek How are a few comments on a TH-cam video representative for a country of 9.5 million people?
Andreas Adler Stop using logic, it hurts its brain.
Andreas Adler because there's a bunch of literature, blogs, songs and movies about Sweden's racism too.
+ArtistoftheWeek thre is a bunch of stuff that says everything, that does not make it true.
snuffeldjuret I'm not going to dismiss people's personal experiences and historical events that happened in Sweden just so then you can feel better about your country.
+FrancoUnAmericano How is that thought racist?
guccigucci456 If i said those black people in that country are thieves, would that be racist?
FrancoUnAmericano
No.
Peace.

Sweden is the most racist because all the countries around Sweden there is not a lot of people to be racist against. And cause the Swedes are pissed cause there taking too many immigrants.

I agree that there is no class diffrence but i dont really think sweden is racist.. sure there are reacists but not much though...
And tbh The imigrants in sweden are more racists than the swedish people...
Facepalm. You're being ridiculous.
she just says what she went through and you have the audicity to say, that Sweden is not racist.
Sweds getting mad cause they know no ones tryna listen to corny EDM songs anymore

Miguel Anjel Funny though, i live in Sweden so i know what she's talking about, so yeah...

"Can't get what they want" as in "being treated like an equal human being"? You're hilarious. You're basically making a racist comment to complain about people pointing out that racism is racist. I guess the irony must be lost on you darling.
Once again proving my point...
She's right. But it's all under the surface so to speak. And there is a huge counter movement especially through hiphop nowadays.
+Lurdz C The thing is...all minorities living in a countriy majority x race will face discrimination to some extent period, the only ones stupid or self hating enough to commit colective suicide for the sake of politicall correctness are europeans....the western world was the fist in aboloshing slavery,it was still legal in the middle east and north africa till the 60s,etc...also the left only aims to correction of the white man history,as long a non white did it its ok

Most foreigners there think that by oppressing blacks they get more acceptance into Swedish society.

ebro needs to shutup if hes supposed to be interviewing somebody. his ego is huge.
bye Sweden
Love the racist comments being made to lay claims to not being racist...
so Swedish people cant be upset when someone lies about their country being racist ? or they cant contest her claims ?
you people have no idea what real racism is and you got to keep concentrating on the small negative details instead of the bigger positives
and when it comes to sweden there is more positive things to be said, this person in the video is just another person who loves playing the victim to sound as if shes been through some struggle
She seems like a very nice woman good luck to her.
Offence is never given, its always taken.
Mapei is lying so much. It is not as bad as she portrays it... Also how can she be so ungrateful of the country that gave her everything?
what is she lying about?
Camtaine82 "Racist SD Party"
Wanting to slow down Immigration (Not stop it) Isn't racist. It's preventing suicide.
she looks so much hotter with curly hair......
As a black swede, i do think she exaggerated a little. Yes you can find racism in Sweden, but its not as profound as she claims it to be. Sweden is very inclusive and very multicultural.
***** Black is not a nationality.
No, honey. In America you are the black girl.
Bobban
Complex problem, check!
Yammo Yammamoto
It's funny when people get upset about the fact that other parties choose not to cooperate with SD. I mean... c'mon...
There is literally nothing wrong with racism. If anything, it is good for a nation. Your only arguments against it would be emotions.
Asked what?!
I can agree with you,but she had a different experience than you. It's hard in Sweden for nonswedes, but we continue to fight for our rights.
Tigger Smoove move
That's your great response is MOVE? I thought swedes were more educated than that, but let me take that back carbon copies of Americans. If you don't like it MOVE to America oops that's right you can't.
Bra skrivet!
Tack!
How many swedes do we have that are subscribing to hot97? would be interesting to know! as far as mapei goes.. shes DOPE! i saw her perform 2007 and that shit was good! havent really seen her since. she been grindin!
"They say the N-word there frequently", say WHAT!?
what do you mean, nigga?
A total LIE.
She is super beautiful, and super talented...
Holy Fuck she looks about 15.
Great interview all around!!
she a dope chick! Im really digging her she smart she positive damn she got a great soul! need more people like this!!
Ok this is funny cos EU is fighting other immigrants and UK is fighting EU immigrants to go back to EU... Shit happens!
and UK is not in EU?
mika jaakkola They're a EU member, but they don't see themselves as part of Europe in the UK. Ask anyone over there.
oh yeah i got it now, my bad.
Mr. Lansky
thx yea cos its exactly what i mean
mika jaakkola
Hope you understand what Mr. Lansky is saying and i know it cos i'm in the UK - no harm intended
Poor girl's just on there to promote her music; and the deejay's going all black Larry King on her.
I LOVE ❤ MAPEI. Greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨 😀 😘....
Sweden is not especially racist, it's like all countries some people are racist and others aren't but sweden is just smaller than america.
Such a happy smiley person. Never heard of her though.
Black P is from Belgium and the Netherlands!
Shes humble in real life.
With Sweden's generous welfare system and high wage for unskilled labor I'm surprised she addresses inequality. The unions are strong as well, so job safety is high (Americans wouldn't believe how hard it is to fire someone).
Liar
High Wage for unskilled labor? Thats not true at all the working class in Sweden can barely afford rent and food where I live even before Inflation struck so many taxes here.
Lol at all the denial peeps in the comment section! Get over yourself. Sorry, but your country is not perfect like ya'll may want to believe. Welcome to reality!!
You know she is a real Swede on the way she trashes Sweden... typical swedish behaviour :D
fuck u
She's lovely
I'm Swedish. And what Mapei describes about Sweden feels very foreign to me. I haven't heard anyone here describe a dark-skinned person with the "n-word". That word is in my world somewhat old fashioned, you usually only hear in the movies. Bear in mind that Sweden after Malta received the highest number of refugees per capita throughout Europe last year. It really feels wrong if people get a picture of Sweden as racist. But of course Mapei has right to her own opinion.
By the way, I really like "Don't wait". Great song :)
I agree with you. It's sad people will think Sweden is racist when it's not.
@@petera8592 the iq gap is the biggest segregating factor known to man or orc
I LOVE YOU MAPEI, WHEN ARE YOU COMING TO MEXICO!!!??
Well, please remember that Sweden and any northern European country are native white countries. So, it is what it is. If you visit a European country, you are a guest. Don't assume that they are going to put you on a pedestal or that you are more 'unique'.
@SuperVremya LOL!!
Zwarte Piet is in The Netherlands, not Germany !
True thruely made say no more. Mapei knows her history for that She is a Queen
shes like my wife and Jhene Aiko, speaks to my soul. keep up the good music
Most racist country i think. It is like ukriane and poland
Black Pete is in Amsterdam.
lol @ alla arga svenskar
Ebro likes to hear himself talk...
i honestly thought it was Luaryn Hill who sang Don't Wait. This girl is inpressive
She's not going anywhere by saying "like"
the media sweden positively, but thats only because sweden cooperates with america on political issues. it doesnt mean sweden is really paradise
yup and the funny thing is they get mad when you call them racist lol
Good interview Mapei!!!
What is she on about?? The class difference in Sweden compared to USA is so much smaller, what in the world...
Thanks Mapei. apparently every Swede is racist. i had no idea i hate people with a different skin tone.
Do people get handouts without working?
umm part 2? 3? 4? lol... i really like this interview :)
you can tell most of these comments saying "sweden is the most racist country" has never been to sweden 😂😂
It's the Netherlands where they have Black pete..
i would say that there are countries in europe that are more inclusive than america. particularly the UK, i spent my whole life not feeling or being treated different to white people here. In multicultural countries problems arise when a certain groups start disrupting society i.e. with riots, violence etc. that's why there's a lot of racist feelings towards muslims in europe atm. I'd say, here in the UK, you're more likely to receive race hate if you're muslim/asian (because if you're asian they'll assume you're muslim even if you're sikh/hindu) than if you're black or mixed
how would it be more "inclusive"? have you even been to america?
FearlessP4P1 lol yes. have you ever travelled outside of america?
simplyshama Of course he hasn't - it's easier for him to talk shit.
The only people Europeans hate more than Muslims is Black people.
+simply.s :)
after watching this, I am going to marry her.
Black piet is in the netherlands i live there born and raised. U need to stop the light and dark skin bs.
A few days ago, some guy went up to a black person and just stabbed him because he was black.
Just recently OPRAH had an issue there. It's not THAT different. They attempt to hide it just like everyone else and some just choose not to hide it.
It's crazy, ya know? Tina Turners LOVES it so much that she renounced her U.S citizenship. I guess it's like anywhere else.
Actually that was Switzerland and not in Sweden. Tina Turner lives in Switzerland lol
Pow!! 100!! And I knew that too! Lol!! Thanks for the correct! :-)
dope! been on her music for a min!
This chick is way off. Please dont talk about shit u dont know the half of. Best regards from a Hip Hop Scholar from Sweden
But people do say the n-word quite a lot. Not everyone of course, but it's pretty common.
lsamoa I will not argue with that, I've heard my mum use it a good amount of times.
Ok maybe Hungary is worse
Seems to me that u don't live in Sweden =)
Neo-Nazis spark first church alarm since WWII:
Mass arrests at neo-Nazi May Day demonstration (01 May 14)
Over 400 cops to patrol neo-Nazi May Day march (30 Apr 14)
www.thelocal.se/20140502/swedish-church-rings-bell-to-warn-of-neo-nazis
Every "white" country is racists, so we are just talking about racism taking different forms in different countries. It's not about people being racist but a systematical and structural racism which we of course have in sweden as well. The use of the word "negerboll" is racist and the fact that people are still fighting for their "right" to say it is a clear indication of white privilege and racism. As a white person you cant say "what's there to complain about" because you will never encounter racism on a daily basis, you are the oppressor not the oppressed and therefore have no right to decide what there is to complain about
the blackface character is not in Germany it is in Holland
that black pete thing is dutch not german -.-
