Half Pint. I remember her well. Many people called me by that name. What a nice wholesome family movie we all fell in love with back in the 70s. Wish those times never left us.

I about passed out when I saw PA's fiddle. I think I could spend weeks in there. Funny thing, I lagged behind the tour group in Mrs. Wilder's parlor and got locked inside the farmhouse for a few extra minutes. I had a strange feeling that Mama Bess would not have been happy.

Many of the plotlines shown on the TV program didn't happen in real life. There were so many episodes of the show, they had to invent things to fill the hours. The Ingalls family never adopted a son, and Nellie and Laura never had actual physical fights (none she wrote about, anyway). The brick home in Mansfield, MO was one that she and her husband lived in only a short time. Most of their time there was spent in a white wood frame house on the same property.

Linda Ratcliff thank you for writing that the movie was filmed in Minnesota cause I was wondering where the pioneer family built their house our best american friends with whom we were in Africa & our nicest neighbors tought my parents a lot we kids were small cos our cook had to make all dishes frm scratch~0 we rarely got fish only when a few Dads cought them or enough meat so we kept chicken in the garden. Our cook was lovely n honest & made great food he was like our family he cried & so did we when we left Africa after 4,5 yrs watching this movie reminded me quite a bit how our parents helped each other on the station how we cele
brated St. Patricks day, Guy Fox + x-mas easter my Mum made easter bunnies n little eggs that my Dad hidd 4 us in the garden if we had water shortage we could go to our US friends & bath there we kids n adults had a lovely time we often had supper there n brought some thing with us. Our Dads didn't have to build houses the brithish had done that they were big our grass grew very fast our gardener cut it often cause we had python snakes & other ones in the garden we owe our cook our lives we had to stay close to our kitchen so he could help us if we needed him. My brother n me were sad when we asked when we would go back to East Africa my parents said we couldn't return as we just started 1st grade @ school n flights were very expensive our poor cook n other friends wrote to us that they missed us a lot that a bad War had brocken out in Uganda we were very worried for our cook n friend in fact he wanted to leave with us but my Dad said it wasn't possible we had to find a new big flat for our family & Dad had to find a new Job but no one can take our nice memories of East Africa away from us we visited lovely Kampala, Nairobi & all nice game parcs that were full of wild elephants rhinos🦓🐒 gnus lions giraffs we lived in paradise many people envied us for this

In this video you will also see a memorial to a Major League Baseball player Carl Mays (4:10)
"Carl William Mays (November 12, 1891 - April 4, 1971) was a right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1915 to 1929. Although he won over 200 games, 27 in 1921 alone, and was a member of three world championship teams, Mays is primarily remembered for throwing the beanball that killed Ray Chapman of the Cleveland Indians on August 16, 1920. Chapman became the only Major League player to die as a direct result of an on-field injury."

When you read Rose Wilders letters and writings, they were DAMN broke! She was malnourished, and both her and Laura I think had rotten teeth. Teeth so bad they both had to get them removed. All the Ingalls girls had diabetes and Mary had very serious health problems. Unbelievable that Caroline Ingalls had 4 children, and only 1 grandchild, and no great-grandchildren. I don't think Laura's parents ever saw Rose again after they left DeSmet in 1894- how very sad, especially considering Caroline lived another 28 years after Rose and Laura moved to Missouri- and they had cars and trains to travel by the 1920s! We heard on the tour that Carrie Ingalls was very small- about 4'8-4'9" and in poor health since a child. Grace was extremely poor. As an adult she was writing to Rose and Laura asking that they MAIL old clothing to her. Grace lived in a tiny shack by herself. We got the sense on the tour in DeSmet that Laura and Almanzo did not sleep in the same bed. They slept in the same room, but tiny beds smaller than a modern day twin bed. Laura was only 4'11' and Almanzo was only 5'4"! Their stunted growth surely was due to lack of nutrition and very harsh winters back then in South Dakota. Laura and Almanzo were so poor in Missouri, they bought the farm land, and too poor to build a house. They rented a very small house in town covered in stone for a while. Rose supposedly lost most of their money in the stock market crash in 1929. And Rose lost her considerably fortune as well in 1929. Rose sounds bipolar and bisexual. After her baby died, sounds like she had a hysterectomy at the same time, and got a divorce. She looked very butch in the 1920s onward, always living and hanging around women. Also- we heard Laura did not like sex, which is why they never had any kids after their son died mysteriously. Grace, Carrie and Mary no kids.

Unfortunately, she doesn't. Not blood relatives, anyway. She and Manly only had Rose and an infant son who died. Rose's only child died as an infant, too. The only relatives would be from the Wilder side, such as children of E.J., Perley Day, etc.

Thanks for the memories. We were there that same year in July, a little humid but not bad. We stayed at the RV park across the street. An eye opener for us we stoped at market that was by the park you showed and had asked the grocery worker were they kept there liquor at. Being from California we did not know better but the gentleman said " oh no Mr this is a dry county, you have to drive 3 miles that way to buy that stuff" so we drove got me some fireball went to the RV was outside sipping on it and thought I was hallucinating because these sparkles started to appear called for my wife she came and started to laugh. It was lighting bugs I had never experienced them before, first time on a road trip out of California. How dumb huh?

      Descrizione video..
