The prices in US is a bit higher, besides the grocery foods, all other items are taxed in US with 11% or above for sales tax. So, for all the items you guys bought, it may cost about 11% to 13% more, which is about US $480.00. Do you need to pay sales tax in Shenzhen ?
The price of imported grocery is slightly higher in China, such as yogurt, wine, meat, etc, in comparing to Toronto. But the living cost is much more lower in China. Have been thinking of moving back to China! Thank you for sharing!
A few items seem cheaper, in general about the same price. I guess you can only open Costco in bigger cities its quite expensive for people from tier 2-3 cities once converted to rmb.
Many visitors from Hong Kong go to that Costco and also to Sam’s Club. Hongshan metro mall has really benefited from it. Great to see your video as always.
@ - great. It really is so close. It used to seem only one way traffic, mainland people to HK. I am glad the two way traffic has increased. The weekend brings many from Hong Kong to enjoy food and shopping just across the border.
The one in Seattle south is the world's first Costco. I used to live in Seattle North, so I shopped in Edmond's branch, both Costco are packed in the weekends.
Thanks for taking us along shopping Lee. It's great to see you so excited and healthy❤️ You sure do have a major sweet tooth !!! Much Love and continued success to you and your beautiful family - to Oli too. ❤❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lee puts all his favourite snacks straight into the trolley. 15:52 see's Vicky's favourite squid snack, picks it up and places it back in the box!!!! 🤣
I can't believe I watched the whole shopping trip and got caught up with Lee's excitement. The abundance of stuff to buy in China today is unimaginable 40 years ago. Just as American professor Steve Hsu observed on his Manifold podcast a few days ago, changes are coming fast and furious in China. People in the west must make a trip to China to see for themselves. (5:49) Mars Corp. should pay Lee for this M&M moment.
@21:27 - and half of the stuff is highly processed salt and sugar - also expensive - you will save more and live longer shopping at a local wet market 😊
Thank you for taking me to costco shopping. I love junk foods and there is such a huge variety of selections. Lucky you, hope you are not on diet. Ha Ha
Hi Lee , good vid , wish we had one close to us in Spain . You’ve not changed 😂😂 you’ll eat most of that and not put any weight on as usual . Say hi to everyone for us , cheers Mike
I remember when the Costco in Manchester opened nearly 30 years ago! Loved it, and it was very cheap. Best thing was the taste trolleys, don’t they do those anymore?
Really enjoyed that video, but trust you can watch your sugar levels and hope you don't get type 2 diabetes. I used to love chocolate and cakes etc and got type 2 when I was 60, without even knowing it. That shop looked good fun and addictive to buy loads of stuff, but I note the biggest stores like this are all American owned. Next time I go to China, I'll be looking to visit a Chinese store Yonghui, which is based in Fuzhou, with one in Guangzhou-not sure if you have one in Shenzhen? We like the Ole supermarket, which is also Chinese owned, but a bit pricy, although we still go there in Shandong, to get Western foods.
@@BarrettYT They charge15 yuan for a French style baguette, but our local Da YunFa ( KT Mart) have the same bread at 3.9 yuan, although it only lasts a day or so.
I live in Alberta, Canada and the prices seem similar to here. I grew up eating Campbells soup and I still eat it on a regular basis (both vegetable and chicken). My wife is from China and we both like the Creme Brulee. We have three Costco stores within easy driving distance, and one of them is only about 15 minutes away. We're retired so it's always nice to go there mid-week as it is quiet with lots of parking.
Quiet? That is way better than here. I live in the suburb about 40 minutes away form Seattle and have a Costco store nearby. The thing I hate is there are tons of people and cars inside or outside whenever I go there. It is a very very crazy place.
2 mins in, biggest difference comparing to the "OG" Costcos is that in the US there are no goods like drones/cameras stacked openly, you must get them from staff during checkout from a paper card you took.
Worked for Costco for 16 years in Aberdeen Scotland , before i move to Thailand with my wife 8 years ago, I miss going to Costco and i can't see them ever opening here, great video Thanks
It seems more and more people are moving out of the UK to South East Asia these days... Hope you are enjoying your life in Thailand, a lovely country..
Some foreigners are lived in HK have applied the Non-Chinese citizen permit card already can take the High speed train from West Kowloon station to Shenzhen North nearby Costco it's take about 20 minutes High speed train and better park the car at West Kowloon station have High speed train discount park the car there after brought thing in Shenzhen Costco.
I am curious whether Chinese Costcos also sell appliances, furniture, tools etc? Your video was almost exclusively in the food section and maybe you only had a chance to scratch the surface of what this store actually offers.
Seems very expensive. Much cheaper in Tesco for cans of tomato for instance. You can get 1 for 40p that’s less than half the price per can that you quoted. Bottles of wine £10?!! I thought the cost of living was much lower in China. I know my daughter is renting a nice flat for less than £200 per month in Shenyang. So I was expecting comparative pricing….but hey ho.
Don't like these comparisons 'cos they don't show how much locals have to earn to buy these things; would be nice to have an hourly wage (local average) price of these products e.g. X costs 2.3 hours of average wage. Just sayin ...
I know there’s slow times throughout the day but this Costco looks dead. I’m in the U.S. in a not very populated city and our Costco is mostly packed and only ever gets this slow in the video when it’s 30 mins before closing on weekdays. But this is China with 4x the population.
Oh My, not a Costco fan at all, but had to watch. Not impressed with the prices for China, Costco seems expensive there . Seems high compared to all the competition there, and now they have to bring all the western junk food they sell to China. You brought to much junk food ! lol.
Foreigners don't like Chinese brands. They love Starbucks and Tesla. They love German cars. At this point, Chinese EVs are the best, but the foreigners in China only want a Tesla. They queue for Starbucks and bash China's brands. It seems like only vloggers Taz and Libby don't mind Chinese brands because they want to experience what the country has to offer.
How do the prices compare to prices in your country?

Yes, indeed, I bumped into a couple from hong kong while I was there.
I like to buy online and have it shipped to my home in Hong Kong

Lee - you sound like a kid let loose in a candy store (especially around the snacks)!
Same way I felt first time in a Costco.
I'm always interested in the major supermarkets or big-box stores in China!
Thank you very much for sharing!
Wow that was a nice video! Thanks Barret.
I used to live in Seattle and was a member when Costco had only one store. What a great success story.

Interesting walking around Costco, but I wouldn't buy so much sweet stuff.
You should have show us the seafood section , I’ve heard Costco in China has a huge seafood section.

Costco is all about impulse shopping. Everytime you go in you expect to buy 5 items but end up buying 50
I would never pay a membership to shop. I've been to Costco and products are not cheaper than normal so its pointless.
