I can’t take a review seriously when you discuss specs and don’t even listen, let alone have the unit on hand. Ridiculous. As a working engineer for over 20 years, this is empty content. Also, any creative engineer can play with features and use them as flavorful tools, gimmick or not, especially for fun on the side/ on vacation, etc. I’ve come up with very creative projects that ended up in commercial releases by playing with “toys”. Too much stock is placed on a device and not enough on talent.
@@sonofnothing this interface has revolutionized by workflow. I have some noise issues, but I think that’s more to do with my power options in my home. Not really sure to be honest. But my music sounds so much more lively since I use my synths and guitar directly into interface while using the “gimmicks”
Coming from someone who has worked 30 years in pro audio. No professional cares about specs, specially not the minuscule differences show here. It's all about how it sounds. The Vintage sound of this interface may be a gimmick, but then their plugins might fall into that category as well.
I value my dollar. If I can get better specs for the same price (or cheaper) why would I not take that? Any of these new interfaces coming out will "sound good" but just sounding good isn't cutting it in 2022. I want the best all around value proposition
@@UndergroundSoundProductions Specs don't equal quality or value. You could have something that measures very well, but it sounds clinical and aesthetically displeasing. How it sounds is everything. Take for example the mic you are using in this video. What is it? Im guessing a Rode NT1? Great specs, low noise, but it sounds like a toy compared to a custom U47 Fet. The specs on the NT1 are much better, but not the sound.
@@aaronmarshall In engineering you design as per the specs, the better the more expensive..and you will notice it by ear if you are well experienced and trained.....and these are products design by engineers not musicians nor producers
If Drake and 40 recorded So Far Gone on an MBox 2 and a TLM 103 in untreated hotels room then someone out there with the right ear can take these Volt interfaces and make an absolute masterpiece. No one is listening to your records and saying “damn them specs tho”, they care about how it “sounds” and if it’s a “vibe”. Screw the specs focus on getting the best signal in possible and then put your skills to the test in the post production period and create something great!
You gonna pay someone hundreds of dollars to mix this? This is made for the beginner musicians. They might not be like “damn them specs tho” but they gonna be like “damn that quality though” TLM 103 is an 1100 dollar mic. If someone is purchasing this it’s probably because they are on a budget. Stop being butt hurt and respect he took the time to make this video. If you don’t agree then make one yourself with that “car salesman, profile pic you got” lmao
@@KXNGiLLuSioN your comment makes no sense because this is great for a budget lol specs mean nothing. If it sounds good it sounds good the person playing your music can't hear your specs
@@avepe6094 no there aren't. There are DIFFERENT options that cost less and these aren't even that expensive for the price to matter you can get a volt for like 130 bucks lol even less if it's used/a demo version. It's highly affordable
I saw this video before purchasing the VOLT 276, so arranged to be able to return the interface if it didn't match the Shure SM7B, or there were other issues. It is superb. Vocals are crispy and I've honestly never heard the SM7B sound better. I didn't need the full gain that's available. Look and feel could not be better. So anyone out there in doubt, try it. You can drop your cloudlifter.
Great to know! I just bought one to use with my SM7B. Are you still using it without a cloudlifter? What about the comp and vintage mode? Do you engage it?
@@antoniodbo the comp is great but it’s not a hard limiter. The Sm7b as a dynamic has a slight measure of natural compression, it’s less open and grainy than a large diaphragm condenser. I use the cloud lifter all the time as it gives me a little more gain but it works fine without it. Mainly use vintage mode on guitars
I bought a Volt 2. Its honestly rubbish. When I turn the monitor gain knob I get crackling through my $7000 footprint 01 speakers. The volt 2 monitor meter shows red lights when playing signals that are 8dbs below 0. When playing tracks on sound cloud I see red lights. I see red even with a limiter and Kclip on my master, so even inter sample peaks are being clips so there is 1000% nothing reaching 0. Plenty of people having issues with it on windows in Ableton too. All drivers are updated and my computer is over spec'd for music production. It will make a nice door stop if I don't end up smashing it with a hammer. Hows yours going? You on mac?i
For what it's worth, I track my vocals through an outboard preamp, an outboard 1176 clone, and a LA-2A clone. This volt 276 saves me so much time and quality when I'm on the go. I think buyers need to think about why they're purchasing the gear, because for me, it's a great mobile rig for my vocals and synths. I always use coloration and compression going into my recordings so there's less work for me in the mix. Lots to consider!
Do you know if it's possible to use an outboard preamp and no gain at all on the Volt, but still use de 1176 built in Compressor? Thank you in advance.
@@Henrique_Dutra I had this same question. I´ve been trying to find this info online and in the Universal Audio website, but haven't found out so far. Did you find it out?
There is no doubt that the specs are REALLY underwhelming. But the amount of effort youve put into making these videos just to compare it and criticize it in comparison to your favorite audio interfaces/preamps without even actually trying it yourself, just says something elsw. Unless youre actually AB-ing it, I think its hard for you to say that its not actually worth buying. Even Focusrite has their gimmicks, the AIR feature? but thats part of how you SELL things just like most youtubers nowadays with their clickbaits, including you mate. Doesnt always tell the whole story. You should know it yourself. You've been swapping and going back and forth between gears this past year mate, with your preamps and mics. But you'll never actually know it unless you try it. Try it out and actually AB it FIRST.
😂 I don't need to buy and test out a product to know it's inferior to the competition, that's why spec sheets exist so you can get an idea if it'll work for you before you buy it. Can't tell if you're a UA employee or just a fan boy lol
@@UndergroundSoundProductions this is the dumbest response I've seen. If you haven't compared sound quality side by side how can you post a negative review having NEVER heard the interface. That my friend is disinformation.
Why do spec sheets exist? If the volt is inferior on paper compared to the competition, you would still pick the volt? Not to mention, the competition have things that aren’t measured on paper like loopback, usb 3.0, adat expandability, two sets of outputs (quarter inch), two headphone jacks (3.5mm/quart inch), do I need to go on? I went off information provided by UA. I didn’t make up one single spec and most importantly, at the end of the day it’s my opinion.
Just my two cents. .. that's not how it works in the real word imo... specs are important and should be compared, but the difference of the specs you compared were very small. What makes a BIG difference afterall is the sound you get with each interface. Who the hell cares about 3db more input gain if the other interface just sounds better? It's like with iPhone vs. Android phones... on the spec sheet Android phones are way better, but compare them in real life and you will see that the spec sheet shouldn't be valued that much...
Volt sounds better every time. Also those on board compressors are analog and made really well 🔥🔥🔥 All depends on your preference. Having hardware built in means I can throw this in my bag and have a powerful tool to demo closer to how Im going to sound in studio.
1: The Volt's (176, etc) compressor adds gain compensation which further boost the mic input gain getting about the same level like the ID or the SSL. 2: "If you somebody who take recording serious you are not going to track with" -> trust me, serious guys won't use any of these you recommended. They will probably go the Solo or Twin that just eats all these. Choices. Next. You forgot to mention that tracking with that "gimmicky" vintage preamp and compressor actually could be more fun for some than tracking totally raw, boring sound. Especially for people who had no training hearing what a compressor does. Now they will. And those features sound great. Sound quality for the Scarlett vs Volt? Is there someone biased? You perhaps missed to check the massive difference of the headphone output, even just the power, which the Scarlett lacks seriously. Volts are for those who want to get into recording, and the experience for those might be more colorful and joyful than with other interfaces. If you asked me, using any of these would fit the job. Some might appreciate features of other interfaces, but saying that the built in compressor is worthless or not pro is totally missing the point.
@@baptistec.4546 Lol you sound bitter. We are discussing whether a product is a value. Of course no one is forcing me to buy it. What kind of response is that? And I stand by what I said. Except for the bundled software(maybe, I don't know the value of it's content to comment on it) the Volt doesn't provide much or hardly any benefit over the Scarlett. Even then you could get another interface and buy your choice of plugins for $150 and maybe better off...
@@skadragon so you had both interfaces in your hands to compare ? If not, please don’t talk, It will save you from using words you don't understand.I don't see any bitterness in what I say, but I do see prejudice in what you say... and you talk me about discussing... Do you wear a beanie, too? 😁 Edit: if you want to discuss, please start comparing a 2i2/M2 to a Volt 2 .. not a 276. Would be a fair comparison. $30 for UAD expertise, 610 preamp and 1000 bucks of software.. do you start to hear the difference ?
I like the volt 276 better than the 2i2 or the 8i6. I think it’s some UA hate here tbh. The volt is dope asf. Bypass the pre and compressor and use analog 610/710 and it still sounds good. I don’t know why you wouldn’t recommend it. I would for the price the volt is amazing 💯
Too much emphasis on “specs” & not how it sounds. If you’re comparing a Cheap focasrite to the Volt, the volt has mojo you won’t see on a spec sheet especially with an Sm7b with a cloud lifter. Use your ears not your eyes
Spec sheets mean nothing. LISTEN to the gear. I don't own one but, judging by all the ACTUAL reviews of the Volt 276, if nothing else, it's the quietest audio interface out there (very low noise floor. way better than the FocusRite and Audient ID14) and is much more geared to recording than other interfaces. As others have suggested, check out Julian Krause's review, or Produce Like A Pro's review.
Maybe it’s just my ears, but my Volt 276 sounds sounds WAY better than my Focusrite with my dynamic mics and guitars. I love the 76 compressor tone, and it sounds comparable to my 1176 plug ins. I can use it with either my Mac or my ipad when I’m on the go. It’s not meant to be an Apollo replacement, it’s an entry level DI with UA tones.
Making a product decision like this based exclusively on a spec sheet is just a moronic idea. When the results are subjective, you cannot add pure objective data and say that is all you need. Imagine buying a car, and deciding that because the engine is bigger, and it produces more KW, and the 0-100 time is better, it must be faster and therefor better. But the driving experience is ruined because the handling is horrible. For something like this you can look at a spec sheet and get an idea, but for something like this, for you to simply say it is worse than something else before you have even listened to it and putting all your advise based on the spec sheet... shame on you.
Judging an interface by it's specs is judging a book by it's cover. I've done shootouts against high end interfaces, and decided to keep the Volt and even bought a second one. Use your ears.
Bought a Volt 2 for 200$, a full 100$ less then the id14mk2. Bus powered but also has a 5vdc jack, something the others in this price range mostly lack. This allows it to work easily with my ipad. Not sure how the others sound but for an Ipad, the Volt 2 is freaking killer.
I bought the volt 2 and honestly it does everything I need very well. For $200 couldn't beat it. I like that it has midi inputs for older synths. Never used vintage mode never seen the reason. But i like that it has direct monitoring.
Am I missing something or this guy just told that you are going to find problems with SM7B mic because of a 3db difference in between the UA Volt and his interface?
That’s correct. But now the price of the interface goes up and at that point I have no idea why you wouldn’t just buy the Apollo solo or a zen go for $500. I mean UA really dropped the ball on this one and there’s truly no reason why it has such lack luster performance at the price it’s placed at (276 costing $300). It’s hard to believe it’s UA putting this thing out
The most butthurt thing for UA is that they dont upgrade their Apollo Twin USB. Thunderbolt version is now MKiii (Apollo Twin, Apollo Twin MKii, Apollo Twin X) while the only one Apollo for Windows is still first generation. And if you want to use PC then buy old first generation Apollo USB (outdated converters) or buy Mac instead of PC. Nice....
I like it because of the balance of price, build quality and number of outputs. I use it on hybrid DJ sets when performing on my DAW. And it's perfect, MIDI in/out, and outputs. I use the 476.
It essentially has the same specs as the Scarlett 2i2 which I believe you can buy on Amazon right now for $169. Or there’s the classic motu m2 which is about the same price but in my opinion, a step up from the Scarlett 2i2. I jokingly said I wouldn’t be surprised if these volt interfaces rivaled a 2i2 annnnd well.. look what happened 🤷♂️
I love my ID14 mkii but there is one thing that irritates me and that is the mixer app is so sluggish on my windows PC. Yes I tried all ISB ports already to no avail. I tried it on another windows PC and it was good. I tried it on my M1 mac mini and NO problem at all. Only on my main gaming PC where I really need to use it that is so sluggish. I guess I have to live with it. I cannot even upgrade the firmware using my PC and I had to connect the ID14 to my mac mini just to update the firmware.
i was leaning to id14 but i read many comments about audient interfaces getting out of service after a year ..and that it had issues with windows ? so for a voice over what is the best option until 350 $ considering the cleanest voice and reliabilty for profesaional work ?
The most important is the drivers. The hardware nowadays are relatively similar but if the drivers suck and make it a pain in the ass or just unusable, you just wasted all your money. Gor windows users Focusrite is terrible in this regard and Motu doesn't play well with windows. I trust UA with their drivers a lot more.
I have a lynx aurora, api preamp, neve summing mixer… I’d like a mobil bus powered interface, I have no interest in uad plugins, I was about to buy an ssl 2+, but picked the uad volt instead. Why? I liked how it sounded better, and yes I’ll be using the compressor and preamp features on the way in. I don’t mind having a bit of analog dynamic control over the input signal when I need it, I also don’t mind the color as I’ve heard so far. Basically I picked the uad volt over the ssl 2 because of the color. Anyone out there looking to buy an interface, forget about who “this is for”, or a db or two difference in specs here or there. Just buy what sounds good to you and or suits your needs. There are couple of good and thorough videos comparing cards out there, check them out, pick your favorite, and make music.
Stumbled upon this video but you totally missed the mark on the gain. Volt and Audient ID have exactly the same gain, the difference is in the adjustment range. Volt mic max input level: 9 dBu Audient ID mic max inout level 12 dBu. Assuming an identical source, with the gain set at minimum on both (at least according to specs) the UAD would record a 3dB louder signal than the audient, with the gain at max on both the dBFS level would be the same. So the available amount of amplification is the same. EIN: complaining about a difference of 2 dB at those levels is just silly, both are excellent in that regard. I won't comment on the "gimmicks", even though I kinda agree with you there..
Yep the SSL2 has even better SNR. If you’re a dynamic mic user it’s a no brainer. It all makes sense why UA wanted to wait until the last minute to reveal the specs. Lol I remember them saying they’d release the specs after the interface has already been shipped
SSL2s outprice these quite a bit in the U.S. though while the Volt 1 and 2 are priced the same as the Scarlett Solos and 2i2s so that's their competition. In Europe we're only paying higher prices for the Volts though, and less for SSLs so there's little point.
This may be a bit off-topic, but I am trying to use my Volt 1 with a Yamaha Reface CP and my 7th Gen iPad and the problem is that, even though the Volt 1 is doing what it's supposed to, and so is my iPad, I'm hearing the Reface CP BOTH through my headphones, which are plugged into the Volt 1, AND through the Reface CP's onboard speakers. Shouldn't I be hearing ONLY the audio from the Volt 1?! One of the main reasons I have for getting an audio interface is to play and record music without being heard by my neighbors. This is defeated by the sound coming from the Reface CP's speakers. I have my connections correct, so what is going on?!
Unless you have a real need for Omni-directional and Figure-8, I would still stick to the NT1. The reason why is the frequency response is more neutral on the NT1 so you'll have a better representation of what you're actually recording (which makes work in post easier), the noise floor is lower so you'll have less noise when you compress, and finally it will require less gain from the pre-amp to drive. Hope that helps.
@@perfectalpha thank you very much...i was undecided about which mic to buy between this one, the NT1, the 440 pure or Aston and others. I will use it for rap vocals.
@@simonebarbella4118 not a problem. There are so many options for microphones out there that once you understand how to read a frequency response graph, it makes sifting through microphones pretty easy. The ONLY issue you may run into is many companies kinda fudge their readings. So no mic is ever as smooth as the graphs represent. Some are more accurate than others. If you want a more accurate representation and hear all of the microphones, you can use something like Audio Test Kitchen which will kinda blow your mind. It has most of the major mics and you can see what the frequency response is accurately, plus hear the mic used on multiple audio sources. It's pretty good.
I have a SM7B and it works flawlessly with my Volt, also you’re talking about completely different price range between the SSL2+ and Volt, unless you go for the biggest units.
The comparison to the Audient to me is moot, as I like "front operated" interface (goes under my speaker ), but interesting to hear your view compared to 2i2... , I respect your opinion as you obviously know what you're on about, although I think you have masssively high standards haha, as you weren't dead keen on the Lewitt 440, and I love mine, it's my best mic :))
Hey man. Great video. I currently have a focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd generation. Was looking at the Audient Id14 mkii or the Motu M4. What would be better for guitars using plugins? I’m currently using Neural DSP Archetype Petrucci. Thanks man. Cheers!!!
Great video! What would you recommend between the Motu M2 (U$285) vs the Minifuse 2 (U$200) vs Volt 2 (U$285). Not in USA, so prices are kinda different. Not looking to record, just having something with a low latency to play instruments on the PC.
Sound is the key ! Spec's are nice but not the real measurement ! Built in compressor ? How many hits are you involved with ? None ? You wouldn't record with Compression ? Really ? No vintage engaged ? Well why do all the desks have a vintage sound ! Good Luck with your music !
Plugin's ? TH-cam people are reading spec's ! You don't have the product ? TH-cam is full of know nothing fake music people ! What studio's have you worked with ? Gamers know everything ! At the end of the day this guy doesn't even have the product and SM7B is the most treasured mic on earth ? Do it right gamer, get the product and do a session ! Try it on some sources ! The EIN from your voice is 119
This is non sense. I have the Volt 176 now, previously had the Focusrite 4th gen interface and the Volt is amazing. It also came with a bunch of awesome plugins.
All these reviews on this channel are a bit too pessimistic and are not really reflecting the reality. The part about inexperienced user buying it is meh. The truth is that the preamp is pretty fine. The only reason the compressor isn't is that you can't access settings and these are ready presets that you can't tweak and also it's kind of noisy. It is untrue that there is a huge quality gap in audio recording between the Volt 2 interface and the other interfaces. In fact there is are only Steinberg UR series interfaces that are REALLY bad, and the rest are quite similar in terms of audio recording quality. So yeah.. Not bad at all in fact. But out of all the interfaces Audient interfaces are the best. Not by much from the rest but they are.
Did you even listen to it, tho? This sounds like you're just speculating based off an arbitrary spreadsheet. How does it sound? Did you do a direct comparison??
Are you aware that the human ear can only detect level differences of 3dB and up? So a 2dB difference in gain is practically inaudible and definitely not a decision factor ....
I use to have the M2 a couple years back and it was solid for sure. I wouldn’t complain if that was my only choice 👍 it’s pretty impressive and not to mention looks amazing
I believe the main difference is you don’t get the extra outputs and the 2nd mic pre. Mic preamp is the exact same and so are the converters/output specs. You’re basically just getting a smaller id14 without the extra outputs and adat expandability
@@UndergroundSoundProductions thanks, I believe for my purpose (recording vocals) id 4 would be more than enough, I was really thinking about getting volt 176 but you totally changed my mind, I guess testers on TH-cam who say it's something revolutionary are simply paid to say so
I’ve been watching a few of your videos and they are very misleading , with all do respect I’m asking what did Universal Audio do to you because this volt 176 I use is incredible ! And I have an Apollo twin X , 6x and old twin silver twin , this replaces my bus powered Apogee Duet 2 and it’s been perfect!!! For damn near a quarter of the Duet2 price when I bought it !! Those specs can’t be true !
JK which you call the goat measured the Volt 2's actual EIN at -129dBu. But even that better number doesn't tell you how an audio interface performs overall. You need to actually hear it. Volt playback sounds clearly better than MOTU. Currently they cost just 10-20 euro bucks more than also inferior sound and quality Scarletts. Why should I pick them? Also, did you know the Audient you praise silently replaced the AD/DA chips when it ran out of the good AKM ADC stuff? Same for its current mystery DAC chips, and the iD14 mk2 is considered the same product as release. Care to bash them too at some point? Honestly checking every morning to learn UA's specs in order to bash a product shows you have issues. So keep doing that, here's a Volt spec you can bash on: -84 dB of THD+N on the instrument input. Have fun completely missing the point.
That EIN spec is so low as to be COMPLETELY meaningless. The gain spec spec is less meaningless, but I can think of absolutely no situation where a 3dB deficit in that range would be a deal breaker - MAYBE on an SM7 or a Royer, but you're probably already using a Cloudlifter on those mics, thus we're back to meaningless.
All of you guys need to go to school to learn about engineering and sound......the package UA brings is incredible for the price.....then you master your music in a hybrid w/emphasis on the analog side and you are golden.......Specs do matter....and whoever says that do not simply are not experienced......or understand it...the only thing to do here is to benchmark it
I was waiting for this video. When I heard about the Volt 276 I was so freaking excited at first, until I watched the other video and realized they didn't release the specs, which made me suspicious. Now ai see why. I better keep my audient id14, thanks bro!
Watch a review from someone who's actually used it, not some clown running his mouth to make quick content (there are plenty of people on TH-cam doing real reviews).
Think I'll be getting the id14 , think UA have withheld the specs so they can get all the preorders in , it won't be a bad interface but nothing special , they had the chance to blow the others out the water
Good choice. Id14mkii/SSL2+ are undeniable. Guarantee you they will be the best selling interfaces of 2022 as more people realize just how powerful they are 👌
@@UndergroundSoundProductions i was leaning to id14 but i read many comments about audient interfaces getting out of service after a year ..and that it had issues with windows ? so for a voice over what is the best option until 350 $ considering the cleanest voice and reliabilty
It has noisier amps than the ssl/audient for sure. It’s EIN is not as good as the other contenders. The fact that this only supply’s 55db of gain will raise more issues from that alone then any of the other interfaces mentioned
@@UndergroundSoundProductions hm, that's strange from official manuals it says audient id4/14 - 0,0017% and volt - 0,0007% I thought it means volt should be less noisy
When you say less noisy are you talking about the preamp hiss that’s in the recording due to turning the gain up while recording with low sensitivity mics like a sm7b? Because no, that would come down to EIN (equivalent input noise). The lower the EIN the better for less noise. Focusrites are -129 and the volts are -127. Keep in mind the volt has far less gain and you’d need to use all of it where as on something like a ssl you wouldn’t need to do that because it has way higher gain. This stuff can be pretty confusing but believe me when I say it, these interfaces really aren’t all that great 🤷♂️
I've felt that the only options folks should consider sub $300 are from SSL, Audient and Motu. The next upgrade is really the Motu Ultralite MK5 above that price point. Maybe the Antelope Zen Go if you're willing to deal with shenanigans. I said it in a comment earlier, if UA was packing heat in the spec sheet, then they would have touted them. Instead, people see built in features and think "Oh, this has a compressor, I can save money." You're not saving money going that route. If you are doing voiceover content, save your money. Get an Audient ID4, a Rode NT1, and a few Waves Plugins (F6, MV2, WLM Plus, and NS1 if your environment is rough). You may not necessarily need to buy plugins if you know what you're doing, but those 4 make it idiot proof and get you worrying about content and not tinkering with your sound.
tbh I agree with the ssl and audient except motu, but what i really like about the motu is that you actually have an off/on switch button lol with the others had it tooo
SSL2 build quality and fit finish not as good as ID14, mic pre amp is top notch. ID14 also has dual headphone ports with separate volume control, drives high impedance headphone very well as an audiophile equipment.
@@frankluo230 i agree with the build quality of the ID14. It is on another level compared to SSL TBH. I sold my SSL to get the ID14 because 1. It has audio loopback. 2. It has two monitor outputs. 3. Optical in for ADAT expansion. 4. Has better routing capabilities compared to SSL. One thing about the headphone jacks. while it is true that it has two available infront but the volume for both headphones jacks is only one. Overall the ID14 mkii is a beast and I don’t think there is an audio interface out there that can beat it at its price point. Heck! I will be bold to say that even for audio interfaces that are twice the price of the ID14 this audio interface is hard to beat.
Wow, I'm sure glad I watched this video before wasting my money on a Volt. Because everyone knows that a piece of audio gear that looks microscopically better ON PAPER is obviously VASTLY superior. I mean, you could try it, and find out how it sounds, and what it's like to use, but why waste your time, right? Just look at the spec sheet! Haha! Gotta run now... I need to buy some OFC cables, some Slick50 for my car, and some other stuff that doesn't matter.
I received mine the other day. It's really amazing. I have a RME Digiface with 1 babyface pro and 3 D88's, interfacing via adat with a rack full of 1176, LA2A, and 1073' clones to compare it to. The Volt has a place, and gets you much closer to a polished sound for much less hassle. Leaves you a little room for further processing via plugins too. Of course i can get things near perfect using my main chain, but to be able to record with quality mild compression and preamp saturation with my iphone is extremely useful for hotel room recording sessions. Now i can just keep a U87 clone, tabletop mic stand and my Macbook on hand.
That’s the one thing I’ll give it and makes me want it. The fact you can use it with the iPhone is really cool. It’d be dope to go out into public with this thing and record a video using the audio off this interface and into the iPhone. Where did you order from?

100% empty content, and the talent (performance) will outshine x vs y interface all day, every day.
@@sonofnothing this interface has revolutionized by workflow. I have some noise issues, but I think that’s more to do with my power options in my home. Not really sure to be honest. But my music sounds so much more lively since I use my synths and guitar directly into interface while using the “gimmicks”
Especially when those numbers are pretty similar.
Did this guy just complain about a +3dB difference between two interfaces as if that's somehow a game changer?
Coming from someone who has worked 30 years in pro audio. No professional cares about specs, specially not the minuscule differences show here. It's all about how it sounds. The Vintage sound of this interface may be a gimmick, but then their plugins might fall into that category as well.
I value my dollar. If I can get better specs for the same price (or cheaper) why would I not take that? Any of these new interfaces coming out will "sound good" but just sounding good isn't cutting it in 2022. I want the best all around value proposition
Agreed! I was thinking the same thing while watching this hahahahaha.
I don't care about specs. Does it perform? Does it fit into my workflow? Does it sound the way i want it to?
I was the same, although I like it with the cloud lifter too .. definitely got mojo.
@@RickyPann thanks for the answer!
yes it's surprisingly great.
After this video I’m buying Volt. Good luck with your scarletts.. 😉
You on mac?i
Oh and been through all the trouble shooting videos and manual etc.
I'm glad I read the comments and didn't watch the video
@@UndergroundSoundProductions I bet a Studer A800 specs pretty bad…
@@UndergroundSoundProductions MPC60 specs are trash compared to the MPC500. Your point is?
You nailed it 👍 a "prodigy" who tries to make his subs believe that he has serious knowledge because he wears a beanie is a clown..

And I stand by what I said. Except for the bundled software(maybe, I don't know the value of it's content to comment on it) the Volt doesn't provide much or hardly any benefit over the Scarlett. Even then you could get another interface and buy your choice of plugins for $150 and maybe better off...

Have you used the UA Volt?
Don't get drowned in numbers......... what's it like to use.......?
I also have it. It's completely professional. Great sound. Who cares about the specs? Records up to 192000 kHz and phantom power. Sorted 😊
I feel like you definitely have a problem with Universal Audio🤣
Am I missing something or this guy just told that you are going to find problems with SM7B mic because of a 3db difference in between the UA Volt and his interface?
I wonder if it's cold in his studio?
I need this for mixing purposes. Can u still access the UAD plugins with this interface?
Is a hiss (after setting the interface up with proper Gain settings, etc...) emitted normal with the top compressor button set to 'on'?
If you use a cloudlifter or similar booster, dynamic mics shouldn’t have a problem on the volt? Still lookin at the SSL2+ mainly. Thanks for the info!
It’s hard to believe it’s UA putting this thing out
So another $150 plus to get it to do what better specced interfaces (Audient) do out of the box. Doesn't make sense.
Nice....
Dude soo true. They favor mac users for sure
the difference between the volt and 212 is much better honestly
can you use all uad plugins on the volt serious? and does the midi and audio sound diffident in a daw???
The volt 2 was specifically designed to compete with the Scarlett 2i2 class of interfaces.
where exactly is the review here ? I think I missed it

Absolutely. Respect man. Tell it as it is. No sugar coating nonsense.

I like it because of the balance of price, build quality and number of outputs. I use it on hybrid DJ sets when performing on my DAW. And it's perfect, MIDI in/out, and outputs. I use the 476.
You've done more research than the guy who made this video. You too can have a few thousand subscribers.

Yeah on the M1 Mac it’s a really nice experience. Sorry to hear that man but glad you still enjoy the interface it really is amazing
i was leaning to id14 but i read many comments about audient interfaces getting out of service after a year ..and that it had issues with windows ? so for a voice over what is the best option until 350 $ considering the cleanest voice and reliabilty for profesaional work ?
There are couple of good and thorough videos comparing cards out there, check them out, pick your favorite, and make music.
who uses full gain?
Specs matter with music equipment not sound qualities? Or is that just if the only thing you record is youtube-video voice with face cam?
Stumbled upon this video but you totally missed the mark on the gain. Volt and Audient ID have exactly the same gain, the difference is in the adjustment range.
Volt mic max input level: 9 dBu
Audient ID mic max inout level 12 dBu.
Hi bro have a question here. If minifuse 2 and volt 2 which one u will go for It. Just would like ur opinion.
to note: SSL2s have an EIN of -130.5 with 62 dbs of gain. UA had a major opportunity to blow up this market and it seems like they're fumbling the bag
So i own the ssl2+ and i am using a akg p120 mic, should i be happy? lol
I have my connections correct, so what is going on?!
volt comes with melodyne essential ($99 value) and a few other plugins, as a singer that tips it over the line for me currently.

do you own any hardware?
Hi what do you think about Warm Audio 47 jr? Is a good mic?

Seems a bit daft saying all of this and not even having any experience with the actual device....what I mean is. The map is not the terrain.
Did you even listen to it, tho? This sounds like you're just speculating based off an arbitrary spreadsheet. How does it sound? Did you do a direct comparison??
finaaly .. ssl2+ is better for sm7b?
A lot better. Supplies 62db of gain with -132 EIN. Amazing performance with the sm7b
Are you aware that the human ear can only detect level differences of 3dB and up? So a 2dB difference in gain is practically inaudible and definitely not a decision factor ....

How can you compare specs without actually listening to the equipment? It defeats the purpose of reviewing audio equipment.
You can't compare, this is a useless video from somebody who isn't interested in making useful content.
Been warning about this for a month and also referencing Julian for an objective review based on measurable metrics.
Bummer. My q802usb has more gain than I could need for any mic. What would be the cons other than huge ps wall wart?
That EIN spec is so low as to be COMPLETELY meaningless. The gain spec spec is less meaningless, but I can think of absolutely no situation where a 3dB deficit in that range would be a deal breaker - MAYBE on an SM7 or a Royer, but you're probably already using a Cloudlifter on those mics, thus we're back to meaningless.
I love when you say that id4 is better because there are a few db of difference... you don't know what a 610 is i presume.
Absolute truth! I recently bought a VOLT 276 sound card, without its compressor and preamplifier functions, this is the same Focusrite! Waste of money
I'm going to return it to the store tomorrow
All of you guys need to go to school to learn about engineering and sound......the package UA brings is incredible for the price.....then you master your music in a hybrid w/emphasis on the analog side and you are golden.......Specs do matter....and whoever says that do not simply are not experienced......or understand it...the only thing to do here is to benchmark it
An Mbox2 mini has an EIN of -129. Dynamic range of 106 db and max gain of 52 db. Apart from the vintage mode and compressor specs are comparable.
I was waiting for this video. When I heard about the Volt 276 I was so freaking excited at first, until I watched the other video and realized they didn't release the specs, which made me suspicious. Now ai see why. I better keep my audient id14, thanks bro!
Yea man your missing out I have the volt and I have never had such a good interface I'm so happy
@@markhanebuthsanchez I'm glad for you! I've read some more comments about the Volt, and for now I'm gonna stick with my iD14.
@@PabloEspinozaPablolein reasonable decision I def recommend it
Watch a review from someone who's actually used it, not some clown running his mouth to make quick content (there are plenty of people on TH-cam doing real reviews).
Anyone also seeing the brightness of his mic change when he talks?
Best interface
Think I'll be getting the id14 , think UA have withheld the specs so they can get all the preorders in , it won't be a bad interface but nothing special , they had the chance to blow the others out the water
Good choice. Id14mkii/SSL2+ are undeniable. Guarantee you they will be the best selling interfaces of 2022 as more people realize just how powerful they are 👌
@@UndergroundSoundProductions 👍
@@UndergroundSoundProductions i was leaning to id14 but i read many comments about audient interfaces getting out of service after a year ..and that it had issues with windows ? so for a voice over what is the best option until 350 $ considering the cleanest voice and reliabilty
How about THD + Noise of the amps? It says it's better above all ssl, scarlett, audient, motu
It has noisier amps than the ssl/audient for sure. It’s EIN is not as good as the other contenders. The fact that this only supply’s 55db of gain will raise more issues from that alone then any of the other interfaces mentioned
@@UndergroundSoundProductions hm, that's strange from official manuals it says audient id4/14 - 0,0017% and volt - 0,0007%
I thought it means volt should be less noisy
When you say less noisy are you talking about the preamp hiss that’s in the recording due to turning the gain up while recording with low sensitivity mics like a sm7b? Because no, that would come down to EIN (equivalent input noise). The lower the EIN the better for less noise. Focusrites are -129 and the volts are -127. Keep in mind the volt has far less gain and you’d need to use all of it where as on something like a ssl you wouldn’t need to do that because it has way higher gain. This stuff can be pretty confusing but believe me when I say it, these interfaces really aren’t all that great 🤷♂️
@@UndergroundSoundProductions ok, thanks for clarification
For sure 👍
I jokingly said these new volt interfaces would just be another Scarlett 2i2.. little did I know 😳
SSL2 build quality and fit finish not as good as ID14, mic pre amp is top notch. ID14 also has dual headphone ports with separate volume control, drives high impedance headphone very well as an audiophile equipment.
@@frankluo230 i agree with the build quality of the ID14. It is on another level compared to SSL TBH. I sold my SSL to get the ID14 because
@@purpleheart69420 what is the problem with Motu M please ?
The Prodigy for what? Spec mania!? Sorry dude, couldn’t even make it to the end…
I need to buy some OFC cables, some Slick50 for my car, and some other stuff that doesn't matter.
lmaoooo
saved money thanks
Presonus 26c is the best low priced interface
I almost got the 276. Thanks.
