Sri Lanka actually provides free education, I'm pretty much sure he meant private tuition is expensive. Because although Sri Lanka provides free education almost every child has to go for private tuition for better grades and to meet the high competition
He is telling education is expensive. But actually education is free in Sri Lanka Grdae 1 to bachelors degree. But there is a huge competition between students and parents. So, every parent is trying to pass their children in Grade 5 exam, earn 9As for O/L(junior certificate) and earn 3As for A/L(high school). Therefore they sending their children to extra private classes even government provides entire free education with uniforms and printed books. Childrens life is very bad in Sri Lanka. They have to staudy entire day in both government school and private class. This man say education is expensive as private classes are expensive.
Actually, government schools / universities do not charge money from students (that is how you define free education). But do we have a standard over the quality of that education? And what about the cost of stationery, cost of transportation and other expenses that should be incurred to educate a child (except for private tution costs). In my view, even though it is said free education, it is not affordable to each and every family in Sri Lanka in an equal way. Meaning, it is not free for everyone when it comes to affordability of sending a child through the education process of Sri Lanka.
Education is free in Sri Lanka including University education. People have cost of living problems that's true. Per month Rs.75k is enough and it is possible income level in Colombo areas, but in villages, it is a difficult income level.
Sri Lankan government education is free, but it does not guarantee employment opportunities after graduation, leaving the future of the younger generation uncertain. ⁉️⁉️⁉️ High living expenses are challenging for individuals to afford, with a single person requiring at least 5,000 LKR or 60,000 LKR annually.
Education is free but in big cities private schools are expensive. Children have to pay for tuition classes and that cost money.. traveling, food and clothes also .

For a family of 4, about 300k is needed per month, but salaries are a fraction of that.
5 people - normaly 200 000 / 250 000 rupees for living 1 month😢
