What people overlook when they try to diminish Jordan's greatness by saying "Jordan needed John Paxson to hit the go-ahead shot" (like LeBron), is ... MJ was the only Bulls player to score in that quarter up until that shot - with 9 points. So, for those who like to say "Jordan had nothing to do with that play" (talking to you LeSwept), he was the sole reason Pippen, Grant, and Paxson became open.

You know what's so great about this play, this was setup beforehand. It's wasn't an improvisation act like we often see today where one guy dribbles the air out of the ball until the last second and then kicks it out, no this was orchestrated. This is ball rotation at its finest, every player of the Bulls touched the ball during this possession.

I like jalens take but the best part of this play is everyone on the bulls touches the ball. The ball goes 94 feet. From Jordan to Armstrong to pippen to grant to pax in the matter of 10 seconds with the help of about 3 or 4 dribbles. Same thing with game five of the ecf that year. All five bulls had a roll on stopping the Knicks on defense. King did an amazing job on Ewing. Jordan basically busted the play on the wing with starks and then pippen Grant and Jordan denied Smith underneath. I guess that's four but Armstrong did have the presence to leak out and eat up the clock with the layup.
This is why there is no argument to best teams of all time. You had the greatest player in the game surrounded by a team who was constantly in motion and applying pressure on both sides.
And the 91-93 team wasn't nearly as good as the 96-98 teams.

Pippen blowing by Chuck sealed it, he had 3 defenders scrambling to get to him, he could have gone for the layup/foul, triangle offense works.

MJ never did it all by himself. He had to have a supporting cast. The Bad Boy Detroit Pistons exploited the fact that he couldn't do it all by himself. With their "Jordan Rules", defense (and often dirty plays), they limited his scoring just enough to win 3 straight years in the playoffs. Bulls needed MJ to give up some control where he didn't take almost every shot, and when Pippen, Grant, Paxson, Armstrong, Cartwright got more involved, the "Jordan Rules" were less effective, and they finally won in 1991. Phil Jackson was a genius. Triangle offensive philosophy won them 6 titles.

Phoenix might have had the league's best record and they were good, just not good enough. The Suns won game 5 because the Bulls were ready to start celebrating the threepeat before they'd even played the game. If Phoenix had been they would've won this game considering the Bulls only had 12 points in the 4th quarter, setting a new record low for the fewest 4th quarter points ever in an NBA finals game. I e watched this 4th quarter over and over again and saw the momentum change in the Bulls favor. Suns would've capitalized on the missed oppurtunies to put the Bulls away if they'd been good enough.

1ightskin 1eo - terrible defense? You figured that out from a 5 second highlight? You kids are fools and clearly you can't spell basketball let alone understand the game.
And FYI, the defensive rules of today's era make scoring twice a easy. In that era, using physical resistance by a defender was allowed. Hands and forearms on the body. And the middle was clogged without today's bullshit 3 second defensive rule. And today's foul interpretations give players twice as many free throws.
Proof - in 04-05, scoring went up by an average of 20% by ALL TEAMS AND ALL PERIMETER PLAYERS because of the rule changes and new foul interpretations. This was the purpose of changing the rules - TO INCREASE SCORING BY PERIMETER PLAYERS!! This info is all available on NBA.com. And for us OG's, we saw the entire transition that made today's fairy ball possible.
Defense was twice as tough and twice as bruising and effective in MJ's era. I suggest you go back to Basketball 101and learn the basics of the game.

Bronsexuals arguing that Paxson saved MJ here lol Bulls were up 3-2 in that series and even if they did lose that game they would have won in 7. LeBron's team was down 3-2 to the Spurs when LeBron bricked his 3 and Bosh probably caught the most important rebound in history and passed it to the open HoF 3 point shooter Ray Allen to seal the deal and give the younger Heat the chance to beat the ageing Spurs at home. Outside of MJ passing the ball up to Pippen MJ was not even in that play. MJ passed to Scottie because they have 11.5 seconds on the clock and he is being pressed full court. If Barkley didn't try to gamble on the steal Grant would not have been open when Scottie penetrates and Paxson would have not been open for the open 3.
In 91, Paxson hit that big 2 when the Bulls were up 103-101, after the shot the Lakers never scored again but the Bulls won 108-101. The Bulls were also up in the series 3-1 at the time, so even if the Bulls lost they still had 2 more games to win the series. At no point where the Bulls in trouble of losing, therefore, there is nothing to save in regards to MJ's career.
Steve Kerr's shot came because the Bulls and MJ knew that the Jazz might double team him for the last shot like they previously had done before so Kerr needed to be ready and spoiler alert that's exactly what happened; they doubled MJ and he fought through it to passed the ball to an open Kerr and he sunk it. Again. the Bulls were up in that series as well, they were 3-2 so even if they lost they still had another game to go. These constant arguments that Kerr and Paxson saved MJ make me laugh and already tell me you didn't watch the game nor did you understand the situations at that time.

I don't know how they came to the conclusion. Could be there were told by somebody from the broadcast who saw it.

Jalen doesn't realize the bigger mental breakdown on this play by Paul Westpaul, the Suns coach. Kevin Johnson is guarding MJ. Idk y cause he didnt guard as well as Thunder Dan Marerie. If im Barkley, I want to guard MJ on that play. To me the smart thing to do would be double MJ considering he averaged 41 a game that seriesbut if you do, nobody leaves the perimeter. Double MJ 3 ssconds to go. We dont know if the Sun's woulda doubled MJ cause Barkley gambled and lost to quickly. They worst mental breakdown in that play was actually Danny Ainge. Before the play in the huddle im guessing Paul Westpaul reminded the guys that they were up 2 points. YOU DONT GIVE UP AN OPEN 3 POINTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Dany Ainge left Paxon open to help on Grant. Give up that easy layup and the score is tied not an open 3 you idiot!!! The rest is history.

Grant scored 1 point in that game. He was generally a poor free throw shooter, I think less than 70% career. They should've fouled him and forced him to make 2 to tie the game. I doubt Grant would've been able to make both of them considering the pressure. Would the Bulls have won game 7? We will never know. I felt Phoenix had the momentum after having won game 5 and having held the Bulls (which Jordan scored all) to 9 points until the Paxson 3 in the 4th quarter. America West was a really rocking arena. It would've been very tough for the Bulls but I wouldn't bet against prime Jordan even though Phoenix had prime Barkley coming off the regular season MVP leading his team to a league best 62 wins.

What an idiotic defensive play of Barkley. When the ball is released by Jordan he is 12 ft behind Pippen. There was absolutely no chance ever getting to the ball before Pip. Why still trying to steal the ball instead of closing the middle? Barkley was an awesome offensive player and rebounder. But his defence was equally lacklustre and error prone. Bird was not the best man to man defender due to his lack of footspeed but his decision making and situational awareness was off the chart. This is why Barkley is slightly overrated as a player. His defense was inadequate for a top tier player.

Nah, he would've been hacked. And the way Horace was playing that game, I find it highly unlikely he makes two free throws. Horace was 0 for 5 that game with one point. I think there was one play where he had it under the basket and just lost it on the way up, with the ball hitting the part of the apparatus that was out of bounds. Horace was a great player for Chicago, but on offense that game he just looked uncomfortable with the ball.
I was thirteen when I watched this game and I always distinctly remembered that sinking feeling in my gut when it looked like Horace was about to take it to the basket and not having any faith he would finish the play.

MJ passes to anyone they miss they are not on MJ level they are too weak MJ abuses them and people say they need to be better and stronger and that he is a great leader to act that way.
Now Lebron passes the ball to Irving he scored he saved his legacy he passes the ball to Green or JR Smith they score he is not clutch he is weak and he has no killer mentality. Lebron passes it to anyone and they miss Lebron isn’t a closer he is weak and is a bad leader and doesn’t take any blame.
The biggest difference between the two isn’t in their game but in the media and people’s perception of them. One side is infatuated with Mj other side pits and puts Lebron down.
