I honestly became a fan of Robert Pattinson after learning his whole acting story. An aspiring young actor who just played a major role in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, didn't land anything big except for the Twilight which led to him being mercilessly ridiculled by literally everyone. He did not surrender, however, he just went out of the limelight and spend few years acting in indie movies, earning himself a reputation of a good actor by hard work and now he is in the major leagues once more. The Lighthouse (his ticket back to mainstream, I think), Tenet (awesome character in my opinion) and now Batman, which actually looks interesting. I honestly hope that he will be successful, because his career could be a much needed inspiration nowadays.

It's a crime that Dafoe didn't win an Oscar for his role in this movie. It's some of the greatest acting you will EVER see. An absolute masterclass. Pattinson is right there with him the whole time as well. This is one of those movies that captivates you till the very end. Robert Eggers is the absolute best director in Hollywood right now. His commitment and attention to detail in his movies is second to none. An absolute breathe of fresh air from the Michael Bay's, JJ Abrams, Paul Feig's, and Alex Kurtzman's of the world.

I wish more people realised the Oscars are about pushing agenda now more than celebrating talent. Take a look at their requirements for winning best picture for example. They actually have diversity quotas and everything. I wish I was joking but I'm not, and don't just take my word for it go see for yourself. Eventually the general population will realise the Oscars don't mean anything anymore. Once their reputation no longer overshadows their politics, people will drop them just like they dropped the comic book industry

For me, this is a bad move by Pattinson. I already don't care for him as an actor which is why I've shyed away from the lighthouse. He might be brilliant. But now he's taking on yet another version of Batman.
I am so done with Batman. I tapped out after the Dark Knight, but then we got Dark Knight Rises, then the Justice League series, and now we're going to try again? I didn't have interest in either Suicide Squad as they're Batman lore. And I gave Joker a miss because of its Batman ties. I hear that was a good movie on a cinematic level. If it were the same movie with a different title and character identity, I might have watched it.
You all can have Batman. I'm done with him for probably the rest of my life. And Spiderman better watch what he's doing. That ship's about to sail as well.

@@markbrowning4334 I understand your trepidation in regards to the new batman stuff. Ben Affleck was a garbage batman, and that whole justice league abomination was just that. While the new batman isn't my most favorite version, it was a really good movie. Different and actually edgy. Gothem felt like Gothem, and the characters were well acted. A bit of cringe woke lines but overall a fine and entertaining film. Joker was a masterpiece, please watch it as soon as possible (please trust me). As for Spiderman, I have avoided those movies out of sheer apathy toward them, but the last one "no way home" was just fantastic. Not since infinity wars have I been so close to crying. Having unique and different movies is so rare in today's cinema.
Studios and companies nowdays just play it safe making cgi clusterfuck blockbusters.
Movies like the lighthouse is so refreshing with great acting ,editing and cinematography.
The reason that the 90s have so many great movies and classics is because studios let writers and directors go wild with their ideas. Unique scripts and ideas that eventually will be a hit and if not at least the people involved with the project had fun.
I loved the lighthouse in general it was gripping and enjoyable with the actors and director enjoying their time and creating something different.
You don't have to like the lighthouse but as an audience we have to push for diversity in movies eventually you'll find a unique film for yourself.

It felt like watching a horrific and unimaginable piece of art being drawn right before my eyes. When the movie ended I felt like I had seen something nobody else had ever seen before. It was weird, violent, disturbing, enchanting, and of course entertaining. I never knew when one of the characters might just snap and finally lose all capacity for reason and eventually that’s what happened (maybe?). It’s a film that I think everyone should watch to get an idea of what “real acting” is. I saw this movie just yesterday and it went straight to my top 5 movies of all time.
Both performances were incredible, dialogue and monologues were written and delivered perfectly, atmosphere was perfect and the plot was insanely good!
Maybe I do have bias towards these more art-house styled movies since they're my absolute favorite form of media to create and I kinda specialized myself during my studies in this kind of storytelling.
I love how much Eggers took inspiration from maritime stories and superstition, for example how Wake tells Winslow how his former assistant went mad and killed himself, yet we see how he was missing an eye when Winslow finds his head from the crab cage which is straight up telling us that Wake killed him. In those said superstitions sea birds were good luck omens and stories say that seagulls have the souls of the dead sailors.
Also both man have their vague mythological counterparts. Winslow's character is clearly based on Prometheus, especially in the ending shot whereas Wake could be easily seen as Proteus.
In the end, this is exactly how Lovecraftian Cosmic horror should be made for silverscreen. The Lighthouse is the source of fear, divinity and vocal point of the whole plot. The Lighthouse itself brought the storm after Winslow killed the gull (the former assistant) in it's revenge and was too beautiful for Winslow to comprehend whereas Wake as an old sailor or "Old man of the sea", like Proteus understands it, worships it and most of all, protects it to the bitter end.
    Edit: Typo.

Great accomplishment of this movie is that a movie finally allowed to use Black and White as the only version, there is something incredibly special about black and white it makes you focus on the texture of the image and adds another dimension to the scene. More movies should use it especially if noir ever makes a comeback.
