Thank you for this video. I was considering one of these for the space savings, but I would hate that fence, and the wood getting caught on the knob when planing... I am going to have to pass.

I filed the knob catch-y area down on mine, yeah the fence sucks a bit however, it works fine for me.

Some additional r&d would have been a great thing to have been completed by Grizzly. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the review mate. For the cost, it ticks a lot of boxes.
The fence and thicknesser side rails are a big issue. I'd be tempted to contact a local machine shop and have a fence bracket made and use 8020 extrusion. Have them add to the thicknesser side rails. If you look at the $1200 12" jointer cost plus another $800 for a dw735 plus helical head, you're in the same amount if you have the mods done (plus minus). You could possibly get the round under table bit that's fouling fixed as well.
The big issue I find, is that choices are SO limited here in the US. If you're in Europe, there are far more options that are well thought-out. Companies in the EU tend to focus on the trades rather than the weekend woodworker. Most tool stores are trade orientated. Over here, you get the blue box, the borg, rockler and woodcraft. Grizzly just bring in machinery and sell it. You generally get stung for freight. The only advantage you get in the US is things like Festool are half the price that they are in Europe.
    Just some thoughts

You can get a 12 inch benchtop jointer for 750, and they go on sale sometimes I believe. CuTech and Wahunda make them in Taiwan (with helical heads standard). With the helical head you'd be out ~1,500-1,600. You can even get a cast iron fence for it. That's my plan, for milling lumber.

The fence is maddening. I leave the bolts in the fence, tightened down.. Alignment in reinstalling still is not straightforward, but easier. Never had an issue with hitting the tab using the planer.
I don't often do long boards, but haven't had a problem when I do. For my needs, it's great.

I’ve been looking at this for the jointing function. I have the dewalt with helical. The size and slightly longer beds and of course the true helical. I tend to rip edges with a track saw then bring it to the table saw so the flex wouldn’t bug me too much. All that said, would you recommend it?

Those gripes would annoy me, too, I'm not seeing a good alternative to purchase, though. I have limited space to work with. Jet makes a 10" combo unit, but I don't think it has the helical cutting head.

I'm toying with designing a new fence bracket and sanding off the area where the boards get caught going through the jointer. Like you said, there are almost no competitors at this price point which is sad.

Looks like they still need to work some of the kinks out. Thanks for the fair-minded review!

To avoid the fence touching the cutter, raise the outfeed and align the fence to the outfeed.

I NEVER remove my fence - I just push it toward the jointer infeed side and tilt it. That’s worked pretty good for me. Ultimately, while it’s good for the price, I would prefer to sell mine and get a floor unit.

Do you get a lot of snip on infeed and out feed when thickness planing. I run 10 to 12 in. boards on jointer and planer the front cover gets extremely hot. You can not hold your hand on it because so hot. Some times i will run for 1 hour stright. Have you had these problems. Thank you

The annoying things you find on lower end machines are by design to push you towards a bigger more industrial machine that is probably overkill for a lot of people. Its all about sales.
