  • The ‘Maggie Helen’ was built in Lerwick at Hay & Co. Ltd in 1904, as a Zulu fishing boat. She was designed by John Shewan.
In 1952 she was re-rigged by Tommy Moncrieff as a yacht and was a familiar sight anchored off the lodberries at the south end of Lerwick Harbour. She was at that time renamed ‘Loki’.
She was partially restored at the Shetland Museum in 2007-2009. In the 2022 a team of shipwrights from the sailing ship ‘Swallow’ sailed to Shetland and complete the restoration of the hull and re-rigged her with mast and sails. They have returned to Shetland in July 2023 with both ‘Swallow’ and ‘Maggie Helen’ before sailing to Ullapool. It was great to see her under sail again in Shetland.
The music is by ‘Haltadans. The traditional Shetland tune called ‘The Oyster’ and then a tune that I composed called ‘Light ida Lum’. This track is from the Haltadans album, Light Ida Lum.
