This is a sad one. It's so understandable when someone lets housework go after losing a loved one, especially someone as close as a spouse. And such a short time ago. My thoughts are with this family - I wish them the best.
The 18 year old can do more... I have university and coursework but I still get my house cleaned. I've actually become house proud, I can't have people over if it's even a slight bit messy and out of place!!!

I feel so bad for this family. My husband died too and I can't imagine having to be strong for all the kids. I slept for 6 months and really only got up to feed the cat/cry/watch tv. It doesn't even fully sink in at 4 months. The downstairs was probably a lot of work to keep so nice!
I feel the same way. That sweet little girl can't help how her teeth grew in. She is quite lovely otherwise and they can be fixed. She is just a child! People can be so very mean!
When people are making fun of that girls teeth it's disgusting. She is a human being and it's not her fault....I also have teeth a bit like that but mine are a little less but I Don't think it's nice to criticise her about her teeth. She is a human being!
I agree. Not to mention, Brits aren't obsessed with perfectly aligned blindingly white smiles the way North American culture is. I have messed up teeth and a huge overbite, yet am still considered attractive. I'll get them straightened one day, but it's only for health reasons, not appearance.

Michael's freakin' adorable. Love that unrepentant laugh (paired with a glancing nosepick) at his being deemed the messiest in the house. Also, "debriss" made me LOL.
Poor family! So sad about the father's death, but it's obvious that the kids were never taught how to clean or expected to clean much in the first place, so, with half the team gone and everyone grieving, it's no wonder the house went to pot. With the two oldest kids, untidiness might be a way of acting out. It also sounds like mom could use some grief counseling and maybe help with her parenting skills, so she can learn to lead without nagging, as she's rightly afraid of doing.

What is it with so many of our generation where we don't think twice about having more than two kids and then - spoil them so rotten because we think we have to give them everything. Even pre-school kids can be doing jobs around the house, such as putting their toys away. And giving the kids something practical to do will help them cope better with their father's death...
mum needs to take back control. the kids are only doing what she allows. Meals upstairs should stop, half that junk should be tossed and the eldest daughter needs to grow up, pull her finger out and get off her backside.
I see kids with perfectly fine teeth getting stuck with braces.. and yeah, when they're older and stopped growing.. round 2. People are too vain these days. More money than brains.
