Damn time sure does fly, I remember listening to this when it was first posted. I can't believe how much time has gone..and I still come back to this video at least a few times per year.
That is just amazing how he can play a song that long, that intricate, and not screw up before it's over. He is so effortless when he plays, it is truly incredible. Especially with the camera rolling.
Antoine can achieve this level because of the way he prepares to be in front of the audience/camera. It is not a magic trick even when it appears to be like that, it is conscious work.
I think every year I come back to watch this video but Ive never left a comment. I have memories of myself as a teen playing this song on repeat whilst I halvested minerals from planets in Mass Effect 2 on my xbox 360 and I could zone out for several hours doing that and in an odd way I built a connection between this song and that game as though they were made for eachother because they both evoke so much emotion. Like a feeling of purpose and reliance.. In the game I felt like I was Commander Shepard and it was my job to save the universe. And this song gives me those same emotions. Im not realybsure where I was going with this but ultimatley as the years have gone by I still feel those same emotions as I did as a teen, the memories come flooding in and for that brief moment, Im Commander Shepard.
Someone help me!!. Its been three days and i have been trapped at my computer listening to this song, over and over again. The melodic vines have wrapped themselves around me, rendering me immobile, while i lay in a cage of polyrythmic basslines, the shuffling harmonics rearrange my neurons, and the bridge of this song tempering my perception of what is possible in the realm of acoustic playing.
Because most of this fingerstyle music doesn't really tell you anything. It's usually just a freakshow of talent, a one-man-band kind of thing. That could be a reason to dislike it. However, I can find it relaxing to listen to this kind of music, but the most joyful part is playing or watching it.
***** Usually the word "talent" is used to describe people with a natural ability for things. We don't know that about this guy. He may have struggled for years with a guitar before he started to get really good. So when someone says "talent" I just think they mean he's doing something others can't. (Anyone can do this with enough time.)
the 12 people who don't like this can't do it maybe just maybe one of them is a half trained intellectual musician who hears the repetitiveness and goes meh.....
I have 421 plays of this song on my iTunes, accompanied with even more youtube views. I was inducted to fingerstyle by this song over four years ago, have learned numerous new and fascinating techniques, and about half of Antoine's songs. That being said, I am still completely enthralled when I watch this video. I am hypnotized by the flow of his fingers, and the raw talent, technique, and emotion portrayed by this song. I have a strange sense of increased consciousness when I listen.
As a guitarist of 40 years, I must say that Antoine is an angel sent from heaven to soothe my inner soul! Thank you! Thank you! My 3 favorites are These Moments..The Drive Within..and now this one Reality!
Hard to believe almost 10 years passed from that moment in 2008 I heard it for the first time. Still one of the most favourites by Antoine along with "Spiritual Groove".
The only thing that prevents you from ever accomplishing what Antoine is doing, is belief that you are somehow incapable. Listen, you can achieve anything in life when you reject the common belief that some people are born with a talent. No one is. Stop believing this bullshit. There are people who persue their dreams passionately, and then there are people who allow themselves to be fooled by their own convictions of inaptitude. You, my brother, can DECIDE to become a great fucking guitar player. You can make this decision at any moment, like I did 9 years ago. All you need to do is make space in your life to persue your dream, immerse yourself completely and learn everything there is to learn about what you find interesting. With this golden age of the internet, the world is at your feet. Don't let anything stop you. Whether you'll succeed doesn't depend on how talented you are musically. Believe me I sounded like a dying cat when I started. The key to success is a strategic approach, persistency and dreaming bigger and bigger as you go. Now fucking go!!!
No man! Don't let it discourage you, use it as inspiration! Keep practicing; you can get that good. It will take time, not everyone learns the same way, so don't give up! It took me five years to be able to switch to an F-chord. Now, my new struggle is A-shaped barre chords. But I'm not giving up, and neither should you!
Marwan Ghaith No hes right that pisses me off too. Antoine put hours and hours and hours into perfecting his craft. Giving credit to a god saying that he "blessed him with talent" is bullshit. God didn't do it, Antoine did.
swimmer565 Alright i posted this message a while back as a fan and fellow guitarist. First off making it sound like Antoine suffered to get this good is a big delusion. You would know as a guitar player & composer that there is nothing more gratifying when you are working on a new song when your ideas and emotions are flowing. My intent was not to spread faith, nor was it to take away from Antoine's skill, composition and creativity. To think i meant the talent-less Antione is good because he was divinely blessed. How childish. I just realize how futile speaking about this is. The word God turns an appraisal of talent into a robbery of merit. How deranged.
Marwan Ghaith I can understand both side's of the argument. But you should try to avoid mentioning stuff like that because you're involving a touchy subject. As for them, they also show more respect to your beliefs.
I can always remeber someone telling me that 'anyone can learn to play guitar - really well, however some naturally take it to the next levels' this guy does that!
Ehem sir, most western music, even classical, jazz of finger style use 4 or 5 chord clusters in order to be effective in emotion evocation... You should check your harmony info sir.
Listening to his now I realise I drew inspiration from this on one of my tunes. It's called "don't give up" in the striped red top. This gives me shivers every time. I haven't heard this for years and it's still as amazing as the first time I heard it. Jesus.
Incredible song, amazing talent. I love when this song comes on my pandora station while I'm at work. It's even more amazing when you see how it's played.
I never was really into solo acustic music until I went with a friend to Antoine and Andy's concert in Dallas March 16th. It was amazing and now I'm hooked for life.
i used to feel that guitarist who started very early learning the instrument can achieve this kind of talent.... but when i read antoine's bio it says that he started playing guitar at age 15... which motivated me even further because i started playing at age 16.... thumbs up if you agree
Anyone who doesn't appreciate the talent in this and said that they don't like it , well they're just plain ignorant as to what true talent it, and I hope for their sakes that someday they come to understand what true beauty resides in this piece.
regular guitar strings are available all the way up to 0.080 gauge. To tune to B on a standard scale neck you'll need a string around 0.060, and on a baritone scale guitar you can use even lighter strings. I understand that youtube is full of ridiculous comments, but mis-educating guitarists with irrational information is just cruel. Have a heart sir.
its not like im yur dad, but watching this just makes me really proud, and happy .. watching people take talent and skill to another level , thats what living is about...this guy plays his emotions that makes a beautiful story, not the guitar
@Tranquil787 Yes sounds like harmonics. The technique is using 2 fingers from your right hand. One lightly touching the string, the other playing the string. Try without using your left hand. Place your index finger lightly at 12th position at any string, your thumb plays the string. Hope you get the idea.
Radiostations are not made for good music, they're made for money...so let's bless TH-cam for givin us such great music and vids, for those who seek, they can find ....
It horrifies me that this was 10 years ago. I remember being sat listening to the uploads from the Existence album over and over and over again, and STILL keep coming back to them. Absolutely timeless pieces but someone please tell me where the hell this last decade has gone! Time is FLYING by!
If this man knew what this song reflects of my life as the days go up in a flash.. There’s only a hand full of player’s who have the magic, you are one of them to me. So f’n rad man.
It is my hope that ANY person that had the opportunity to come across pure TALENT like this (as this gentleman has without a doubt demonstrated here), and gave it a negative rating will someday come to appreciate works of art such as this. It truly is their loss to NOT appreciate it.
Idk man I still have a lot to say over 10 years later.. dudes a genius.
Damn time sure does fly, I remember listening to this when it was first posted. I can't believe how much time has gone..and I still come back to this video at least a few times per year.
neoasura me too. never gets old
Same here! My buddies and I used to listen to this in highschool.
Yep
bro... yea...
Well said. Glad to see another like-minded soul someone out there in this broad world. Be safe, be kind... Rewind?
That is just amazing how he can play a song that long, that intricate, and not screw up before it's over. He is so effortless when he plays, it is truly incredible. Especially with the camera rolling.
Practice makes Petrucci.
Antoine can achieve this level because of the way he prepares to be in front of the audience/camera. It is not a magic trick even when it appears to be like that, it is conscious work.
my life is better now that I heard this.
I used to live in Fantasy, but not anymore - I want to thank Antoine Dufour for demonstrating how beautiful Reality could be.
Im not realybsure where I was going with this but ultimatley as the years have gone by I still feel those same emotions as I did as a teen, the memories come flooding in and for that brief moment, Im Commander Shepard.
This may be one of the only times I truly enjoyed Reality.
Someone help me!!. Its been three days and i have been trapped at my computer listening to this song, over and over again. The melodic vines have wrapped themselves around me, rendering me immobile, while i lay in a cage of polyrythmic basslines, the shuffling harmonics rearrange my neurons, and the bridge of this song tempering my perception of what is possible in the realm of acoustic playing.
thats deep bro
Thanks, now can i please have some crack. Puhleeeeeeease!!!!
cool story bro
Not as cool as your rising mojo bro
***** Shut the fuck up
candyrat has some of the best acoustic guitar players out there
This is amazing how can people dislike this is pure talent
Talent? More like years of hard work and dedication. And lots of love. You can't be this good without having a lot of passion for it.
Because most of this fingerstyle music doesn't really tell you anything. It's usually just a freakshow of talent, a one-man-band kind of thing. That could be a reason to dislike it. However, I can find it relaxing to listen to this kind of music, but the most joyful part is playing or watching it.

yellowdart6666 The song is repetitive. It should have been 2 minutes shorter.
I'D LOVE 2 SEE ANTOINE DUFOUR & ANDY MCKEE DO A DUET CONCERT. NOW THAT'S A CONCERT WORTH PAYING FOR.
***** Saying "bacon and eggs are amazing together" in no way implies, states, or otherwise gives the idea that one does NOT like bacon, or eggs...
Add in Ewan Dobson and it's a rediculous concert for the record books!
I saw them together 3 years ago, pure awesomeness.
I think the guitar is tuned to G-I-V-E-U-P Tuning
Only He can get his notes past G
CHUN BUNS I'm sorry you feel that way. This music is brilliant.
metal Killer the killangton of Killingtonsville
CHUN BUNS Actually, I believe it's tuned to H-R-D-W-R-K
T-A-L-E-N-T was my first guess.

This is one of the best videos ever uploaded on the internet. Period.
I love how the harmonics flow so nicely into the melody...this tune never gets old!
Less than a year playing guitar and this video makes me see that there is an unexplored dimension of guitar that the most don't known.
Melts my brain.... every time.....
Back again! Still amazing! 11/10
Let's the whole world melt away. Nothing so fine as listening perfection of the dying note.
how could you not like this?!
This song is just PERFECT!!! One of the most beautifull song's i've ever heard!! Thank you Mr Antoine Dufour!!
As a guitarist of 40 years, I must say that Antoine is an angel sent from heaven to soothe my inner soul! Thank you! Thank you! My 3 favorites are These Moments..The Drive Within..and now this one Reality!
It's 2019, and I'm still amazed from this tune and play
If only Reality was this pleasant I wouldnt have a care in the world. Thanks for the music Antoine!
Hard to believe almost 10 years passed from that moment in 2008 I heard it for the first time. Still one of the most favourites by Antoine along with "Spiritual Groove".
This songs everytime i listen to it gives me chills...and its been 6 years since the first time i heard it o.O
This is insane. What a talent.
Goddamn! Been listening to Antoine Dufour for years, but somehow never stumbled across this song. Counting this as an aural victory! So good!
My fave.
These Moments is my 2nd
every year I watch this video. Still amazed...still amazed =)
I actually wouldn't believe a single person could play this song without if not for a video to prove it....amazing.
This sounds like the soundtrack to the greatest 8 bit game of all time.
+Phyoomz dwarf fortress?
You gave me an idea
excellent playing
I so admire this guy's talent. truly amazing!
I come back this this video every few months to reminds me that I will never accomplish something so amazing and beautiful.
I’m back
Ed Martinez but you are amazing and beautiful! Just look deeper within yourself.

This is the kind of music people should be listening to and talking about. Amazing!
The man is a Genius.
Still an absolute master piece God blessed us with this man's talent.
***** you need help. Believe what you like but don't talk trash. It's kind of sad.
Marwan Ghaith
No hes right that pisses me off too. Antoine put hours and hours and hours into perfecting his craft. Giving credit to a god saying that he "blessed him with talent" is bullshit. God didn't do it, Antoine did.

Anybody else hear two different guitar parts played at once? 0.0 Amazing!
He does repeat parts from time to time, but we don't give. The awesomeness tricks our brains into forgetting he has already played that part before.
Years later I'm back. CandyRat stuff is amazing
This is art!
yes
I can't even play this on air guitar.
hahaha
i know right, and he makes it look so effortless
Don’t mind me
5:28
✌️
TOP SONG !
His best song! Man I wish I could write and play this good. Someday soon!
I can always remeber someone telling me that 'anyone can learn to play guitar - really well, however some naturally take it to the next levels' this guy does that!
146 People would rather listen to three chords over and over.
+Theron Weaver Or shitty rap and pop "music"

I feel bad for deaf people..
LMBO!!!!!
Inject this into my veins.
Awesome
Grandma Mary
It was so soothing that I closed my eyes. When I opened them again, I forgot that it was only one person playing.
98 people can't handle Reality
Geez, it sounds like 3 guitars all at once.
0:53 Antoine shakes his head and says "Dude put your pants on...."
If creativity meets natural talent and hard-earned skills, this is the result.
Bravo!
Listening to his now I realise I drew inspiration from this on one of my tunes. It's called "don't give up" in the striped red top. This gives me shivers every time. I haven't heard this for years and it's still as amazing as the first time I heard it. Jesus.
Seeing people dislike this.. It really does make you question humanity, doesn't it?
Just heard this on Pandora. Ran straight to the computer to watch you play it when I got home. Amazing tune and even more amazing to watch.
magistral! superb! amazing... so Dufour! that is a new word now... redifining accustic guitar music..
Now this guy has talent! Great solo guitar player.
This piece is timeless for me... always rules, always inspires me... Love all your stuff Antoine!
This song is gift to all of us. Thank you. still listening in 2018

I've been listening to this song since he posted it, and every time it tells a different story. This guy speaks through his guitar.
Wow! I mean. WOW! A one man orchestra. Amazing.
Nice technique/very skilled performer.
Learned all the way up to the slap harmonics/tapping part. Best 15$ i ever spent
I’m immediately in a better mood each time I listen
Beautiful song, I played this song at my sister's wedding. It took me 6 months to learn it and I went to Berklee
2016 and this is still one of my favorite songs ever. It's simply amazing
2020 and still same

If this man knew what this song reflects of my life as the days go up in a flash..
There’s only a hand full of player’s who have the magic, you are one of them to me.
So f’n rad man.
this is by far my favorite song from him. it's all about the section that starts around 3:30, he gets so into it.
his tone is the most incredible thing i have ever heard
skills beyond awesome
Amazing baritone! Such bass sound.
MAN! I love Antoine's music...just awesome. THANK YOU!!!!
Where have I been that I've missed this gentleman. great stuff
6 minutes 44 seconds of pure magic . ! Awesome .
Simply stunning.
9 years later and i still come back to this song.
This is one of my favorite songs if not is my favorite song from Antoine Dofour.
It is my hope that ANY person that had the opportunity to come across pure TALENT like this (as this gentleman has without a doubt demonstrated here), and gave it a negative rating will someday come to appreciate works of art such as this. It truly is their loss to NOT appreciate it.
Wonderful conversation ❤️
I can't get this song out of my head, and I'm loving it.
all notes are fine and recorded in one set, nice!
keep on playing
