No disrespect meant but it would be interesting to see an equal shooter with excellent eye sight run that hardware on this course. I hear you old guys the eyes, the day I realized I actually needed scopes and dots was a bummer. As a former Marine I knew 'a few' 😇 guys who could hit a person-sized target at 500 yds, iron sights, from any position, no matter how windy. Some could even dial in without a warmup. But 2" targets? 😲 You call that guy a brain surgeon.
Props to all, but God bless. That first guy. 500 yards with peep sight irons? And he didn't seem to be missing by much, all things considered. Well done.

Off the subject of the topic of this video a little but I had to say this here. I just got my EC Tuner Brake for my 300 PRC build and first impressions are great. No extra allen wrench that you have a hundred of lying around that you can't find anyway because they come in every other package that you get. Fantastic. I see people setting up these target sets just to practice for your challenge .This is a great challenge for anyone aspiring to be better at shooting sports disciplines. Thank you for the fun.
I think with the right wind conditions and the right sight setup, open sights is doable, but the skill and luck involved is crazy. One step below impossible indeed. Kudos to those guys for even trying, especially with a 223 AR with military sights.
@@McgSpook 100% agree. Beyond the eyesight, the sights themselves are one of the biggest limitations. Of course a spot on accurate rifle on a dead calm wind day doesnt hurt either!

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the BlackJack Challenge. Tom Box, you are an incredible shooter. I get a smile on my face every time I watch you shoot. It took some guts to get on the firing line with no optics! Erik, my shooting partner and I have already made the plates so we can shoot our own BlackJack Challenge here in Louisiana. Hey Erik! Legitimately not trying to be rude, maybe consider doing a video on trigger control and follow through, I've seen multiple shooters on this challenge that could improve a lot in that area. Anyway, love seeing the irons come out, keep up the good work
I doubt open sights is going to be able to do it with 2-inch targets at 500 yards. Bullets would have to be one hole at 500 yards to even think about it. There will always be enough wind drift even on a calm day to make it impossible on those 2-inch targets.
The limitation is seeing a two inch target at 500 yds, there are plenty of iron sighted guns with enough accuracy potential just need a more visible target.
I've never seen anyone shooting 2/5 MOA with irons at any distance. It's practically impossible to see. I bet it's like shooting at an empty space and you sort of imagine where your target is supposed to be.

One thing that seems consistent in these challenges and Texas Plinking challenges is the magazines not feeding. I'm curious why.
