My reading goal was 12 books 💀💀💀 I’m at about 15 though! I like this idea of reading the shortest books.
Congrats! I hope many of them were 5 stars :)
omg well done for beating your goal!!
@@exlibrisphoebe thank you!!!
@@anthropomorphicpeanut6160 thank you!! About 6 of them so far have been 5 stars, I’d say my favorite has either been scapegracers by ha clarke or the reformatory by tananarive due!
My reading goal was 12 in 2018, this year I'm on over 52 (I was signed off with chronic fatigue for half the year, so it's definitely double my normal ha) but my point is even avid bookworms have to start somewhere! Also there is nothing wrong with reading a smaller number of books, my partner has read 8 so far and he's been boasting about it because he didn't used to read. It's all about personal achievements!
Yes, A Study in Scarlet is the one that veers off to Mormons in the middle.
I've got a few other bits to film...insert b roll of cats for days 😂❤😻
Sleeping kitties bring me so much joy 🥹
Antigone is one of my favorite pieces of literature so I was excited about Arch-Conspirator - and then heavily disappointed with the execution. I def recommend actually reading the original
Tanya’s music has spoken to me a lot (and she’s done residencies in the UK too - if you’re ever at the National Maritime Museum you can listen to specially made pieces!) so when I saw she’d written a book earlier this year I picked it up immediately, a beautiful 5 stars for me
Watching this video but keep going back to the clip about a book having too many words on the page, that's honestly too funny!
This is great inspiration for Shorty September. I'm hoping to knock a few off my tbr.
i used to avoid short books because i felt like they didn't "really count" towards my reading goals -- this year i started reading more novellas, and my two favorite books so far this year were BOTH horror novellas (ring shout by p djeli clark and the haar by david sodergren).
I relate. I borrowed Heartstopper volumes 1-5 and was thinking them being counted as 5 books would be “cheating”. I got over it though
@@ghostiegail7768 same! I avoided them for the same reason but so glad I've discovered shorties. I also really liked Ring Shout, will have check out The Haar 🙏
Meg, you using that TikTok CRACKED me up 😂
Oh my gosh! The silver sword brings back so many memories. It was the first book we read in my middle school English class. I have so few memories of it and yet I know it made such a big impact on my reading. I remember talking about it and all the things it brought up with my mom the whole ride home. I really ought to reread it!!
I think I need to revisit The Singing Hills Cycle as physical reads. I’ve been reading them through audio and enjoying enough to continue on in the series, but now I’m intrigued to read them physically and sit with the material more.
Omgggg lux on the bedd 😂
Tanya Tagaq is featured on the song Beck and Call by the lovely Canadian band July Talk. It’s so cool! I didn’t know she had written a book, I’ll have to check that out.
Also- is anything more relaxing than a sacked out cat?
Yoga with adriene is the way to go 🧘♀️ I love her dog, too!
I agree the setting for The Mimicking of Known Successes was so cool. But the plot was kind of flat for me. I said I wasn't going to read the next one but I kept thinking about the world and I think I may want to revisit it for that
I loved Arch-conspirator but I also studied the original text Antigona in college so maybe that's why
I LOVE Yoga with Adrienne! I need to get back into it again. I keep starting the year with one of her 30 day challenges and then falling off the habit as soon as the challenge is completed 😅
Me too! But then January gets busy for me and I fall off before it's even done. 🫠
Ooooh I love sci-fi and Sherlock Holmes so will be picking this up!
I hope you go back and reread the other Singing Hills Cycle physically and get to enjoy them more!
Yeeeeeessss, Yoga With Adriene!!
Ahhh yes, I love this!! There's just something about short books. You've inspired me to pick up the Nghi Vo series again after I didn't love the first in the series. I did a reading challenge (with myself 😅) last month and picked 6 shorties to get through and had a great time with it. If anyone has recs for short fiction I'd love to hear what other people have loved (any genre but I love "weird books" especially when they're short).
Ones I loved that I read in Aug were:
🌕 Sea of Tranquillity, Emily St John Mandel
🦍 Patricia Wants to Cuddle, Samantha Allen (unpopular opinion?)
🧁 Bloom, Delilah S. Dawson
🪄 Thornhedge, T. Kingfisher
Sea of Tranquility is SO GOOD
@@heatherbocks it is!! A new all time favourite for me
Love Sea of Tranquility so so much. I read it right when it came out and I still think of it frequently
I read somewhere that the next book from Travis Baldree will come out in autumn 2025 💚
So excited to tune in to this video before starting the work week 💗
OMG I ALSO LOVE YOGA WITH ADRIENE
Prepare to be heartbroken by saga
have you read Sherry Thomas lady Holmes series?
Ohhh what pokemon are you playing?
My reading goal was 100 books, which is pretty standard for me. I’ve read 26 this year, all of which in the first 3 months…haven’t read a book since 💀
I always cheat on my reading goals cos I read a lot of short stories and they're like 6 pages long 😂😂😂 so while I've read 28/30 books so far, I've technically only read about 15 actual books 😅
Just reached my goal of 36 on Goodreads today though I feel like their system is weird cause i think I’ve read 49 😂🎉
it was me who said the thing abt travis baldree 🫣 he made it sound like it was a full length novel……. bc this is the first time i’m learning abt the short story lol……. but like. don’t shoot if it doesn’t happen 😭
Split Tooth is on Audible 🫶
