    RB shooter here, you forgot to mention how good that shutter sound is! I shoot a bronica as well and that one sounds like a shotgun going off! One of the best features of this camera is the rotating back, saved the need to purchase a prism finder and stick with the WLF.

    I have the RB67 Pro S and the camera is amazing for indoor studio, macro and landscape photography. The lenses are top notch! I have the 65mm, 127mm, 140mm, 150mm, 180mm and 250mm lenses and all are sharp!

    Mamiya only actually officially made 6x7, 6x8 and 645 backs for the RB67, (6x8 requires a PRO S revolving adaptor as they made the opening larger.)
    6x6 and 6x9 backs you find are actually made for graflok 2x3 mounting system, which the RB67 happens to use for it's back mounting system.
    6x6 should work great but I don't think the image circle will cover 6x9, it barely covers 6x8!

    Excellent video. Today (April 16th 2023) I bought myself an RB67 with 50mm, 90mm, two film backs and a grib for just under $1000 (Canadian). I'm looking forward to using it.

    I won't mess up your sense of discovery but you can adapt a 220 back to shoot 135 film and it gives you ~24mm by 70mm (if you crop the sprocket holes). Or very nearly a 1 to 3 aspect ratio. Just a scosche more than an X-Pan for under a grand.

    Funny I too have two 67s: Pentax 67 and RZ67
    I didn’t realize about the RZs vs RB/mech-elec features when I got my current cameras. I was happy about the latest version. I’ll enjoy it will it lasts like anything
    Thanks for the vid

    Now I don’t feel crazy for having both the Pentax 67 and the Rb67 lol in my head I justified it but you managed to articulated it better.

    Id throw in the fact that even though it is a massive beast, with terrible ergos; when you throw a grip and prism on, you get an even larger and heavier package.. but one that will take a really great shot

    There's no 6x9 back for this camera, and the 6x8 back only works on the later models.
    The low shutter speed does matter as you often cannot shoot wide open with this camera when using higher ISO films/on bright days.

    • @Braxtonwallis
      @Braxtonwallis  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have seen 6x9 backs but they vignette pretty bad. You are correct about the 6x8 back tho. To me it doesn't matter a whole lot about the shutter speed because almost all of the lenses are very slow f stop wise. So in my opinion this isn't a camera you're wanting to shoot wide open a ton and if you are you're in a position where you can control your light. Also just don't use high iso films outside lolll. If you have to then just use an ND filter. Plenty of ways to get around the shutter speed imo. 😊

    The Mamiya RB67 is one of my favorite medium format mechanical cameras. Two others are:
    Fuji 6x7cm medium format rangefinder
    Fuji 6x9cm medium format rangefinder

    RB67 is easily my favorite film camera system, I have invested heavily into it and intend to keep using it. I have 2 functional bodies and one broken one waiting to be either repaired or used for spare parts for the other 2. I also have 65, 127, 180 and 250 mm lenses and three film backs (one of them a 645) and prism, waist level and chimney finders though I mostly use the waist level one. I would love to have an Instax back but those are kind of expensive.
    Yes, it's really heavy and cumbersome but it's well worth the effort. It's great to use and takes great pictures, to me it's the perfect middle ground between the ease and convenience of 35mm and the image quality of 4x5. With a left hand grip it's perfectly manageable to shoot hand held.

    Hey i just got the RB67 Pro S, but im a bit confused about the back films, so can i use a 6x6 and a 6x4.5 for any RB67?

  • @Bongorock333
    @Bongorock333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Lenses do not cover 6x9. And only 6x8 in vertical with the right combination of camera model, light baffle, rotating adapter and back.

  • @LouiedaylightzPhotography

    I loved your video. I have tons of 35mm's canon f1 and Pentax and blah blah blah but then I got a mamiya c330 and then after shooting with it once I bought a mamiya rb 67 pro sd (68 motorized back) and I haven't picked up any others since. The only other camera I want now is the Pentax 67 but dang so pricey!!

    • @Braxtonwallis
      @Braxtonwallis  ปีที่แล้ว

      Awe thank you so much! Heck yea! The 6x8 back is something I wanna check out soon! Pentax 67 is sooooo worth it. If you get the chance to grab one!

    You didn't need an RB, you need a P67 and an Aero Ektar 178/2.5 or some cinema projection lenses and you need to start shooting portraits with trees nad bushes in the background :D

    • @Braxtonwallis
      @Braxtonwallis  ปีที่แล้ว

      hahaha illl add it to the list :)

    • @KNURKonesur

      @@Braxtonwallis I've sold my Aero Ektar Pentax67 bundle a couple years ago and I miss it a lot. It was huge and heavy but man did it shine for portraits. I recently found a "broken" 114/1.8 projection lens that was used for 70mm film projection. It was described as broken but it only had resin separation on one lens group, so I cleaned it and glued it back together. It's a classic Planar/Biotar design lens so I know it will render a nice image. Already built the adapter for it, just need to save up for a P67 :D Some nice shallow DoF potraits hopefully coming next spring :D
