Do the kerosene (paraffin) fumes not smell a bit in the house? I have the pre 1961 Tilley storm lantern and that certainly does. We have a couple of oil lamps that burn lamp oil which has no odour.
It's cool to see one of the non 'lantern' models, makes you glad for the light switch Us yanks have the old Coleman gasoline lanterns, similar procedure without the preheat. Have to admit the smell of kerosene is a lot more pleasant than pump gas
The best video that I have seen on lighting the vintage Tilley Lamp. Thank you.

Lovely lamp you have there..
Regarding the lighting - I would have my paraffin away and the lid on the meths before i struck a match..

Would it be for sale. I use to own one and sold it. Like to purchase one again.
If you pre-heat for more longtime, can you use cooking oil like sunflower one, too?
Nice lamp. Do you still have and use it?
