I was a junior in highschool when this was released. Along with Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath, etc. We had a veritable cornucopia of music to groove to. We were so lucky, and now you are as well.
Me too, antarctic.. maybe a sophomore.. I really liked the sound they had back in that time.. before Michael MacDonald - also a huge Queen fan then.. most of the kids in my HS thought my BFF and I were strange for liking that "weird band"... lol
"Listen to the music" "china Grove" n "black water" 3 bangers that were the biggest hits pre Micheal M. With Micheal which should be later reactions since it happened later is "taken it to the streets" n "minute by minute"!
''Rockin down the Highway'' ''Blackwater'' ''China Grove'' ''Listen to the Music'' and ''Jesus is Just Alright'' are all must listen to Doobie bros cuts.
Oldie here.. grew up on the Doobs… played this album until it wore out! We had the best music…. !! BTW.. there’s a great live video of this song - a jam ‘n a half! Great reaction, thanks.
I first heard The Doobie Brothers via my brothers (7 & 8 years older than me) so I was rocking out to these songs as a pre-teen. Still love their music.
These are the Doobies I grew up with. Tom Johnston on lead vocals 🎶🎤 🎸 I knew the harmonica would get you 😅😂🤣 This entire album is pure fire 🔥 “China Grove” “Without You” “South City Midnight Lady” just to name a few off this gem of an album!! Just hit the whole thing one song at a time ♥️ I’m sure folks wouldn’t mind at all 😄
There were two versions of the Doobie Brothers. One that you have here with Tom Johnston and the later version with Michael McDonald. Totally different sounds but both were great. I prefer this version with the guitar based sound. They played so many instruments it would have been easy to sound cluttered, but they never did. They were one of the most precise musical bands ever. For your next song just do Listen to the Music, their first big hit. I promise you'll love it too! You're in for a surprising ride with the Doobies!
@@davelimboTiran Porter. He was the original bass player. Their current bassist, John Cowan is also just as talented, and took up quite a few lead vocal duties on their current leg of their 50th anniversary tour due to Tom being sidelined recovering from surgery. I saw them just a few days ago, and Pat and the John's carried on so well without Tom there.
YES!! And just like that I am a Sophomore in High School hitting the dance floor in the gym at the Prom!! The Doobies are fantastic! Love watching you react to great music!! Now check out “Listen To The Music” and “Black Water”! ❤
The Doobbie Brothers are one of my all time favorite bands. Love this song!!!! Love group!!! ❤ Next request is "Minute By Minute " by The Doobbie Brothers.
This is the song that hooked me to the Doobie Brothers. You were exactly right when you guessed "a lot going on but very articulated" haha. Love the blend of groovy electric and acoustic. I think they're also one of the few bands with two very successful and different incarnations with two different singers that aren't pitted against each other by fans and have even toured together recently.
This was when the Doobie Brothers were GREAT. Every song on this album is 100% wonderful. Just truly inspired. I guess that "complexity" was why a YES fan like me loved it so much. Can't say I really cared much for their offerings after this album, especially when they started to sound _really commercial._ But this one is a gem!
remember the first time listening to that song, just the same moment it was a favorite and still after decades is. Just that drive and that chords, riff.
Yes, please do the song “Jesus is just all right” and after that China Grove… Those are hits from their 70s classic rock style and as they got into the 80s the lead singer Tom left for a bit and Michael McDonald replaced him which gave them a totally different 80s feel. When you’re ready to go down that lane you’ll see the difference but both of them sounded awesome. Different vibes but the most awesome music ever. It was great to be young during those times. I still listen to their music. Thank you Salvo!
This one still makes me move. Great reaction. Check out "Takin it to the Streets." I betcha you'll love that one too. And, of course, one of my faves and often overlooked, "Another Park, Another Sunday." A beautiful, breezy melody IMO. Thanks for doing this one.
I'd say that the Doobie Brothers brought a little funk into this song too. I was fortunate enough to see them in concert. "China Grove" is another great song that makes me floor it when I'm listening to it in the car. Please react to that too. "Take Me in Your Arms" same type of tempo like Long Train Running.
I absolutely LOVE your reactions, young man! My generation had the absolute best music, and back in the day, you could see 3 top-rate bands for $5 or $6.00. "China Grove," "Black Water,"...
I attended my one and only Doobie Brothers concert in college in 1974. So much fun! No beer sold in the venue, so my friend and I sat in the parking lot and split a six-pack of Colt 45 in about 30 minutes. Got to our seats in the bleachers at the far end of the arena and once it started, we worked our way down to the front of the stage. I thought my eardrums got damaged. Awesome time!
There are so many good Doobies songs, but I think "Black Water" would most clearly show you the range of styles they could play with. We ALL sang along when _that_ played on the radio!
Read up on the "Michael McDonald Effect." He joined DB later than this song, but you heard his voice when you reacted to "What a Fool Believes." He sang backup on SO MANY records for other people and also as a solo artist. Pretty much anything he did turned to gold. Pre-Michael, do "China Grove." With Michael, try out "Takin' It to the Streets."
To me , my opinion. The Doobie Brothers album the Captain and me is a banger . The complete album. You I'm sure would love , natural thing. Thanks man I love your enthusiasm
They were so much the background music for some of my most prime years, that i guess i took them for granted. But, yeah, so excellent !!! Thanks for being on to all of this -
No, no, nooooooooo... yes the studio is amazing but you HAVE to check out the music video (a montage of live performances). You HAVE to see them perform this!!! They are INCREDIBLE Live!!💯💯💯 Understand, I was only 2y/o when this was released. Far too young to understand the meaning/inspiration behind it. Yet, it is part of the soundtrack of my life. In later years I discovered the background story on this one and let me just say... it's fascinating and funny!!😂 As a little girl as much as this song tickled me... I always wondered who "miss Lucy" was (yet somehow, I understood her plight). Turns out there was NO miss Lucy! The name just fit with the lyrics! lol!! However, her story isn't fictional in essence. Anyway, PLEASE revisit "Long Train Running'" sometime. I'll send you the link. Great reaction Salvo!! Peace, light and love to all...💞
the doobie bros. were an absolute force in the early 70's. i was 20 at the time and they really struck a chord with me. probably their biggest hit was 'china grove' with an opening guitar riff for the ages that is instantly recognizable . killer tune : th-cam.com/video/RX7iHsAIw9o/w-d-xo.html
Two drummers, 2 lead guitars, rhythm guitar, bass guitar. Several different versions of the band but the bottom line, they all rock. Try a live version on your next one.
I wasn't chart conscious back in the day. When I hear songs from back then, like this one, that were never #1, it surprises me. I guess they would have to change #1 every hour on the hour for all the great ones that we had.
This song started as a jam they used to do live that had no official lyrics. They would improvise lyrics at times and it always had to do with trains. At some point they decided to write official lyrics for it and it became this sort of strange mix between trains and the consequences of not having love in your life. It works somehow. Brilliant song, I've yet to hear anyone say they didn't like it.
Hey Salvo! *Natural Thing*, *Long Train Runnin'* and *China Grove* are the first three tracks on the album and incidentally received the most airplay... So you should certainly get to the other two. There are also a couple of deep tracks from this album worth checking out... *Without You* and *Evil Woman*. Cheers!
Salvo...just do this entire album,bro--its fantastic throughout! Also contains their massive hit,China Grove. You can't go wrong with the early (and later/current) Doobie Brothers. The albums Toulouse Street and What Were Once Vices Are Now Habits are worthy of a full listen, too. enjoy the journey..Cheers, Terry K.
This whole album was phenomenal. China Grove was my favorite, but this was the classic Dobbie Brothers sound. For similar sound, check out Jesus Is Just Alright. Never could stand the Michael Mcdonald era however...
This is by far the best version of the Doobie Brothers. Loved them in this era, stopped listening to them completely after they became a backup band for Michael McDonald.
We used to tear this up on the 8tracks in our cars going down the highway smoking are $10 bags of shade leaf marijuana!!! 😂😂😅 The good old days, LOL 👍🏻
I got hooked on the early Doobie Brothers with the album Toulouse Street (be sure to check that one out!) . Toulouse Street and Long Train Runnin' were their best, IMHO. They migrated away from the roots-based style with later albums, which I found much less satisfying.
China Grove is another great song by them .
Doobie’s Black Water is a must!!
The ultimate Doobies song, everything that is great about 70s rock'n'roll.
That bass goes hard
it's so nice to see someone discover something that i know to be brilliant and have loved for years
Among all the other great aspects of this song, THAT BASS just knocks me out!
"Awesome". YES, truly awesome. Loved turning this way up on my dad's Yamaha speakers back in the day.
My favorite song for 50 years!! One of Tom Johnston's very best
I was a junior in highschool when this was released. Along with Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Sabbath, etc. We had a veritable cornucopia of music to groove to. We were so lucky, and now you are as well.
We were really blessed to live in a time that produced amazing music and cheap concert tickets! #rockon #peaceout #salvog #doobiebrothers
Don't you just love watching these young reactor's love what we have loved for decades???💜🎵🎼🎶🎸🥁🎹🎙🎧🤘🤘🤘

Love The Dobie Brothers!
Black Water is a whole vibe, definitely do that one!
The doobies have an extensive catalog. Well worth a deep dive.
One of my favorites of theirs! Now try "Without You" - love that one too.
"Listen to the music" "china Grove" n "black water" 3 bangers that were the biggest hits pre Micheal M. With Micheal which should be later reactions since it happened later is "taken it to the streets" n "minute by minute"!
50 years ago, that’s half a century. What a band. I was 21. Best years of music.
Try Black Water. Totally different but awesome
Best harmonica solo ever😊
Brings back memories of my youth.
''Rockin down the Highway'' ''Blackwater'' ''China Grove'' ''Listen to the Music'' and ''Jesus is Just Alright'' are all must listen to Doobie bros cuts.
Black Water will blow your mind.
Oldie here.. grew up on the Doobs… played this album until it wore out! We had the best music…. !! BTW.. there’s a great live video of this song - a jam ‘n a half! Great reaction, thanks.
I was anticipating your reaction to that harmonica. I wasn't disappointed.
Try "Another Park, Another Sunday" from this era of The Doobie Brothers..
The guitar work is stunning..
I first heard The Doobie Brothers via my brothers (7 & 8 years older than me) so I was rocking out to these songs as a pre-teen. Still love their music.

Black Water
Minute By Minute
Listen To The Music
Takin' It To The Street
China Grove
.......all different, all great! 💟✌
My favorite part of the song is how it sounds like a train and "without looooooove" sounds like the train whistle

If you see them in concert now, all the instruments are in full play. Michael and Tom are together and John McFee is a string instrument genius.
I don’t believe it was Michael but one of the African American band mates was the other lead singer

The Wildlife Concert video 👍

Soooooo good. Loved this music…thought we’d always have this kind of sound. Not so much. Thank gott for utube . ❤
If your a singer you know how good this is or for that matter a player of any instruments played here theyre just that good .
Brings back my college years.
One of my favorite bands, loved their sound in all their iterations. "China Grove" one of the 10 most known opening guitar licks ever!!
Love this band! They just celebrated their 50th anniversary!!

This is quintessential the San Francisco sound.
So glad there was some rock around with the overdose of disco going on!

Seen them twice, sounded great both times. Anything by the Doobies is worth a listen. Don't stop now!!!
Dark Eyed Cajun Women, South city Midnight Lady, Another Park Another Sunday just to name a few.
There was not a bad Doobie song. China grove was my personal favorite in junior high. It holds up.
China Grove
The Dobbies be groovin'
Chill with "South City Midnite Lady" same album.

Great reaction. Maybe try “Clear as the Driven Snow” a gem of a deep track from this huge album
Was 19 when this came out. You definitely need to do more of their songs. Took me back to a wild time in life… I’m almost 70 now. Thank you!
Thank you for reacting to the studio album version with the hot harmonica solo and not the dance remix version that lots of reaction channels do.
The Doobie Brothers - Without You

Glad you did this version.Diamond track.More Jack Daniels for me.
Thank you thank you thank you for putting this on!❤😊
Love it! What a track. Loved it since I got this album. Great band the Dobbies.
This was a song that always got us out on the dance floor. But I always thought the song was called “ Without Love, where would you be now?”
This song is my favorite of a long list of hits! My older sister had this album when it came out!💃♥️
Their early music (before they became Michael McDonalds back up band) is the best!
As someone who traveled by trains a lot, this song does not remind me of tropics BUT definitely trains
One of my favs!
This is by far the best version of the Doobie Brothers. Loved them in this era, stopped listening to them completely after they became a backup band for Michael McDonald.
