  • Finding the remains of a Hudson Lockheed which crashed in bad weather high up on the Grampion mountain range in 1941. The site is very remote and difficult to locate, it is also under snow for most of the year, this was in July 2015 and there are still parts buried under snow and ice. Both radial engines remain as do parts of the wings and tail section which still shows its identification number.
If you enjoyed this video please check out my channel and other videos. We get up to allsorts.
    Cheers.

Thank you for your video, it was on my bucket list to see this. My Uncle (Fred Lown) died there with his comrades all those years ago. My father who now is close to 90 years old still remembers his much older brother who went to war.
    God bless Uncle Pip.

If you gather enough serial numbers of the parts that have visible numbers on them you can search archives and find out which airplane this was. RAF or USAF I am sure would keep such records. Great video man.

The wreckage was most probably gathered up by the recovery crew, and thrown into the gully to avoid possible confusion with any future crashes in that location. Bigger sections and engines were often left on site, as no helicopters were available back then.

Poingniant. Where I live, near Snowdonia there are quite a few crash sites mainly from the second world war. There is one crash site in a place called Cwm Echo just south of Snowdon itself. It was an Air Lingus DC3 which crashed in January 1952 killing 23 people. So severe the crash that many bodies couldn't be retrieved as it had River at great speed into ,boggy ground. My uncle many years ago took himself and his dog to the site which is very remote. The tail section was still sticking out of the bog (removed by Snowdonia national park authorities in 1980) As my uncle approached the eerie sight his dog just sat and wouldn't budge. The dog was just snarlliing and refused to move further. Needless to say,my uncle decided to go back to the car and get away as soon as he could!

This sort of thing has been happening as long as aircraft have crashed. A privately owned helicopter crashed not too far from my village 20 odd years ago, and all the parts except 3 were recovered. An appeal was put out for the missing components to be returned, as one of them may have held a vital clue why the crash happened. As far as I'm aware, the parts were not handed in.....

This plane crash site is high up on a mountain that every year gets totally buried in snow and ice, which crush and slowly move the wreckage as it melts every summer.
In another 50 years this site will look totally different to today, and if this video is still online not a single person will say “look how damaged the wreckage is now all because you touched a few of the bits while making that video 50 years ago”
