I managed to get a plaque placed on the Grand Pier Weston super mare Somerset in memory of Sargent William (Bill)Guy of 601 Squadron missing in action off Selsey Bill 18th August 1940.
I felt that he should be remembered.

I have just taken over the care of another memorial to a Hurricane pilot. This one is to Sgt Leonard May who died after a mid-air collision with another 17 Squadron Hurricane near the village of Garmouth, Moray, on 8 July 1941. The small roadside memorial was erected by a villager the following year and has survived, although it has been somewhat neglected in recent years due to ill health of previous 'caretakers'. I will get it back to its former glory but it's still work in progress at the moment. He will continue to be remembered by the village - Per Ardua Ad Astra.

Nice find folks, I`m glad someone erected the memorial cairn and the handy sign post. Quite moving when you know that a brave man died on that spot, RIP.

Thanks for your comment Angels One-Five. Not the easiest to find. Especially a few years back as the area was surrounded by trees. Nice to see the memorial and sign in place now. 👍

Thank you. It wasn't an easy task finding his resting place in the cemetery. Glad I did though. A fitting end to our journey and a respectful farewell to Flying Officer Roswell MacTavish

With a name like MacTavish, I wonder if the Canadian pilot's family originated in Scotland, maybe many years before he was born.
    Lest we forget.

@@LOREandEXPLORE thank you so much for responding! Ive always been into WWII history, and particularly the air war over Europe! I follow a lot of metal detecting WWII battlegrounds! The finds are amazing. Buy chance i ran into this one. Thank you for sharing!

@@JT-io9ii Thanks for asking. It's incredible to see part of the engine there. Also the memorial. There's been a number of crash sites not far from this one over the years.

@@LOREandEXPLORE its nice to see wreckage there that hasnt been carried off, and the memorial is nice. Im sure people have carried off items. Im in the US, and can only dream of visiting European battlegrounds. Im sure there are crash sites that are left to be discovered as well.

The engine that helped win the war. It was installed in the Mustang and became arguably the best fighter of WW 2.
