      @@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 Yep. I'm not convinced anyone else will be able to compete if they can get the price low enough, and the display good enough. It would also be interesting if you could cover up the lenses and use these for VR. Seems like it should work!

    That wristband might be the future of hand-tracking

    • @3htthexy
      @3htthexy หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      seriously, its so simple but why hasnt it been done sooner? I demo'd the apple vision pro and sometimes i had to move my hand in vision of the device's sensors to pickup my pinch actions, but the wristband here seems like such an easy solution for any kind of hand tracking

    • @EMLtheViewer
      @EMLtheViewer หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@3htthexy While the band is able to pick up nerve impulses corresponding to finger motions (and possibly wrist motions, IDK), I doubt it inherently has the ability to communicate the hand’s position relative to the glasses. I would guess that the glasses optically track the position of the band or user’s hand. So the band is good for giving non-spacial input in general, but I would assume that the user’s hand still needs to be in the view of the glasses’ sensors any time its position is needed.

    • @smittyvanjagermanjenson182
      @smittyvanjagermanjenson182 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @3htthexy because Zuck is sinking BILLIONS INTO THIS TECH R&D! While the rest of big tech was mocking them. If apple doesn't have a viable product to match these glasses within 2 months, they are toast. 😂

    • @3htthexy
      @3htthexy หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EMLtheViewer yeah, but just the capability of being to do any input while not having your hand within the sensors range is already pretty massive to me. Honestly I'm surprised we haven't figured out how to track items in the real worldspace relative to other items, i would think a combination of gyro and motion sensors would be able to achieve something like that but i guess not?

    • @EMLtheViewer
      @EMLtheViewer หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@3htthexy Of course! I don’t mean to diminish it. There are definitely great applications for just non-spacial gesture-based inputs.
      IMUs tend to drift due to unavoidable imperfections and interference. Optical or laser-based tracking methods give devices a point of reference to counteract drift.

      Yeah, and eventually it'll be like phones today, where you have budget options with less power, smaller field of view, etc for cheaper. And by that time, a model line this will be $300 while the advanced model with photorealistic graphics will be regularly priced. Exciting time to be alive! AI and tech in general are getting exciting again. I was too young for the Web boom and the Phone boom, but as a developer, I'm right on time to develop apps for AR glasses that might be the next Uber or something! Lol

    Meta has a big problem, but with these Orion glasses, that problem could become history. As it stands, users can only watch Facebook and Instagram ads when they have at least one hand free. With these Orion glasses, users will be able to watch Facebook and Instagram ads for as long as they stay awake. I guess the next big problem is how to show ads while users are sleeping - but I’m sure Meta already has a prototype for a nightcap that will inject Facebook and Instagram ads into our brains while we sleep.

    So far AR/VR tech has largely failed constantly, it's good that Meta is still working on trying to make it work, but even in it's current form, other then video recording, the tech is not there at all for large scale consumer adoption, and it won't happen unless the glasses can truly become a replacement for phone, which is not happening soon

      Everything starts somewhere. These Orion glasses are 3-5 years away from the consumer market. Meta is so far ahead. they're able to show tech of this magnitude off, saying, "we don't know when it'll get here." They know when it does, it literally launch the week before apple announces their AR glasses, and it'll be cheaper than apples, too.

      It's costing them $10,000 to build, per pair. The materials aren't easy or cheap to produce, and the yields for defect free systems is low.
      They need time to refine the manufacturing process and find alternative cost-effective solutions so they don't completely price gouge consumers.

    Thanks, as always, for the fantastic video. You are the best when it comes to this playground. I see meta also came out with new version of the Rayman Meta glasses. Like you , my eyes aren’t great. And last year and the year before I went through a 45 minute LensCrafters order process in store to get called 3 days later that they could not put my prescription in the glasses. Do you know if the third time is the charm. Have Facebook increased prescription compatibility? The Internet and LensCrafters can’t answer this. I’m hoping a fellow prescription challenged guru like yourself might have gotten better answers from Mark Z & company. Thanks for your words of wisdom.
