For reference, Kenny Pickett is the reason why in college, if the ref judges that the quarterback or wide receiver is _faking_ a slide then the ball is dead at the spot of the fake. And they changed the rules less than a _week_ after he did #3 there. "The slide exists to protect ball carriers from hits, and if we allow fake slides then defenders may not hold up". (Paraphrasing.)
EDIT 10:40 oh and that's something that the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been doing for a while. The helmets are designed to represent the Golden Dome which is the top of the campus administration building and the paint has genuine flecks of like 22 karat gold in it. (My dad went to that school, my mom worked in the bookstore, and my mom has a clear memory of helping future NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana get his books for Freshman year.)

Probably somebody already answered this, but you can definitely kick in a couple of places. You can't kick it ahead as you're running like you do in rugby, which kind of functions for rugby like a forward pass does in this game. Here you kick it between the uprights for a field goal which is worth three points, and you can do that at any time, though you preferably want to be close enough to be accurate, and then a punt is where you kick the ball to the other team so that they can take possession after you've had a score or after you have gone four downs and not gotten enough yards to be able to continue. That kick is very specialized because you have to get it in exactly the right place on the field so that you don't give the opposite team any advantages. Or at least you want to cut down on as many advantages as you can so that you're putting it in a place that's not advantageous for them.

That fake slide caused a ruke change for exactly that reason. Now it kills the play so the QB doesn't get hit when doing a legit slide.

I recommend Ninh Ly's video about the rules of American Football to get a grasp of the basics.

You can only throw the ball forward once per play. If the initial pass is backward then the ball is still free to be thrown forward. Hope that helps.
Edit: also, once you go beyond the line of scrimmage then no forward passes regardless.

A trick play might be tried a few times in a game. Normally the opposition will make adjustments to not let that happen again. So most times it will only be used a few times in a season. There is a punt (kick) normally during your possession of the ball. But you can actually punt on any down. After scoring there is a kick-off.

trick plays can be hard to understand if you don't understand normal plays. But they sure are fun. Honestly, this compilation was on the weaker side. I appreciate you trying to understand and asking questions.
    Kicking -
Kickoff- start of each half (alternates). After a touchdown of field goal. Honestly this is a little more complicated in the NFL and just changed this year - you could watch a video on it. Same with Onside kick.
Onside Kick - I suggest watching a video on the kicking rules in NFL. But an onside kick is an attempt to kick the ball and receive it yourself. Rarely successful but the award is huge. See packers vs. seahawks 2014 nfc championship game highlights.
Safety punt - After a safety (offense tackled in its own endzone) the offense then has to kick the ball to other team. So not only did the defense get two points they get possession.
Punt - This is usually done on 4th down when a team does not want to risk not make a field goal, touch down, or enough yards to make a 1st down. If the offense was to fail in achieving one of those 3 the other team is awarded possession at the same place as the end of the last play. However, if the team punts the other team receives the ball but the kick changes the ball position on the field averaging 43-47 yards in the nfl but can be 60+ yards given right conditions. You can punt on any down, but why would you give up chances to make 1 of the 3 items? The ball is snapped to the punter who kicks it. In the video you watched today there were several fake punts. The way the kicking team lines up and the people on the field make it obvious a punt is coming so the other team puts its punt receiving personnel on the field. But sometimes the kicking team will trick by either snapping to someone else, the punter attempts to run for the first down or throws it. I am sure there are other tricks
Field Goal - The offense has attempts to kick the ball through the goal posts. This is usually done on 4th down where they don't want to risk not scoring a touchdown or making a first down and want to come away with some points. 3 points are awarded for a successful attempt. If the attempt is missed the opposing team gains possession at the spot of the kick or at the 20 yard line if the missed field goal was attempted within the 20 yard line. Teams sometimes attempt a field goal on earlier downs at the end of the game. They don't want to risk a play where the clock may expire before they get their attempt off. Of course this is done when they need 3 points to tie or win. The ball is snapped to a holder who holds the ball to the ground at the right alignment for the kicker. Same as punt the formation for a field goal is obvious. The other team puts field goal prevent team on. The thing is both for field goal and punt they practice for trick plays and if they miss it is usually costly in terms of field position.
Extra Point (also called Point after touchdown (PAT)). - simply it like a bonus attempt for one point. After a touchdown a team is awarded the option to kick it through the goal post from the 15 yard line for 1 point or run 1 play to get the ball in the endzone from the 2 yard line for 2 points. Formation is same as field goal.
Free kick - never seen it but asked the copilot if there are any other kicks. I think i have heard of it, but basically you can kick the ball back to the other team after you received the ball and called a fair catch? I don't know - never seen it and can't figure out why you would want to give upt the ball right away - anybody?
Also there was something where there was a dropkick extra point or something can someone explain that one?

    You should def watch a
    American Football rules
video pretty quickly. It will answer 90% of the video’s questions …

You can throw it backward all day long, but you can only throw it forward once during a play. Also with regard to the linemen throws, you can't throw it to a lineman forward, but you can throw it backwards to them which is why those were trick plays. Its technically a run not a pass.

And that forward pass must be thrown from behind the line of scrimmage.

@@camperohnot entirely true if a lineman reports as eligible and is the end man in the line not covered up they can go down field for a pass play though uncommon.

People who don't know football assume that it is just a savage sport played by brutes who want to maim each other . It IS brutal , but it is also the most intellectually challenging of all team sports .Coaches and players study films of their next opponent's games looking for weaknesses they can exploit and plays that are working for the opponent so they can figure out ways to stop them

You should watch videos on how the game works before reacting to highlights bc y’all were lost this entire video😂I mean every single clip y’all were very wrong or just straight up didn’t understand. Like, I’m sorry, but why are y’all reacting to stuff that you don’t understand. “Can you kick it?” Are you kidding me😂please watch a video on how the game is played, then react to highlights👍
