Theyre fucking hell, tip get some rings first then focus on spheres, tip 2 watch out for pits

@@drsin6856 I disagree, the vibes are perfect with these. They’re just the right amount of challenging without being too easy or insultingly impossible, even more so with the Encore Mode versions. Plus, the music is absolutely *fantastic.*

Eh.. I gotta disagree. Once you learn them, they become SUPER easy. Have you tried Sonic 2? The special stages are still hard even after you learn them! (Mobile version made them way easier, I mean the original game)

The secret to the final stage appears to be NOT getting Mach 3. It's tempting, but your odds of dropping off a cliff will increase too far.

To me, Special Stage 7 was the easiest, I took advantage of the missing bumpers and used them as shortcuts, it helped me so much, I did it on my first try.
when I was in the final stage, I got to Match 3, it gave me a lot of adrenaline, it's difficult but it's good fun :D

They totally nailed the old school low-poly aesthetic. A lot of modern indie games try to replicate this style but fail imo.

Hey bro that's a lil too accurate in my case. Jk but with the Sonic 2 movie and Frontiers coming soon I started to get back into my Sonic phase and just started replaying Adventure, Unleashed, Generations, and Mania. Forces is the next game I plan on replaying but when Origins comes out I'm pouring all my time into that.

The fifth special stage was so goddamn annoying. Thank God for being able to repeatedly go to the easy-to-find special stage ring in Green Hill Act 1 after completing the game.

Special Stage 6 is my "Please no.." stage, the lack of bumpers in choke points kills me 90% of the time, especially when bumpers can fling you off if you aren't paying attention. Also the spike ball placement is so annoyingly perfect, first time play through very likely could end in failure from ring lost or falling off the stage. First time in a long time I felt true rage because I effed up more than I could blame the game. To be fair though S. Stage 6 has more than enough rings when compared to previous stages.
To be honest, i got that 6th emerald the 2nd time
Special Stage 6 is the hardest for me too, but the new special stages of encore mode (DLC) are much more difficult, the easier of them is already more difficult than Stage 6.
DaTruRoxzenFlax what I did was say nothing is stronger than me being myself and that I just need to do it my way with a bit of planning ahead and listen to calming sonic songs and after a few tries I beat it so if you need help you should try doing that

Turning the characters feels really awkward, at least for me it does.

InbetweenGamer so the controls are like Sonic R and Sonic Jam? It would make sense if it was because this game is inspired by the Sega Saturn era.
Just because the game is inspired by Saturn era, that doesn't mean that there must be the very same terrible control scheme.
Hopefully the devs takes a notice from this and adjust the Special Stage controls via update patch.
Not to mention about that bad Mach speed system in those Special Stages.

I knew I would be straight GARBAGE at these the minute I saw the first screenshot, and then it was cemented when I failed the 3rd Special Stage like 7 times and didn't have the 3rd Emerald by the end of the game. Now I'm stuck on that DAMN 4th Chaos Emerald

Leopold Litchenstein do you have to get them all in one play through? Or can you come back to them afterwards?
A few tips: cut corners as much as possible, keep an eye out for shortcuts, keep an eye out for rings, blue orbs, and mach accelerators in containers, jumping while outside the road will help preserve your speed, and jumping helps make turns when you're going mach 3.

Thank you! I was losing so much time going after the fifth emerald. After using the same shortcuts you do and just focusing on speed and the UFO I was able to catch it right after seeing your video :D

Never got passed Stage 5 on my first playthrough, and Stage 4 took me like five tries to beat. I just can't get the control down, the jump carries WAY too much momentum if you're turning and it pisses me off.

To my lack of surprise, I found stage 7 to be much much easier than both stages 5 and 6. Once I realized that I really don't need to go at Mach 3 to catch the UFO things became way more manageable. I did realize it at the very last stage but better late than never.
Yeah, it's kinda like in Sonic 2 except this is way easier. In Sonic 2, once you learn them, the last special stage is quite a bit easier than the 6th.
Play Sonic R's ost with this. It's fits genuinely well.
Special stage 5 for me can go stick it to itself but seeing it done here so fast just leaves me in awe.

I just wanna say that, after 6 years, I have finally beeten all of these special stages and legitimately unlocked Super Sonic. Finally beating special stage 5 was such a great feeling and getting six down was also quite challenging. Seven was a bit of a let down, though, as I beat it first try without even hitting mach 3. Oh well.

one of the bosses was dumb but also an awesome call back to old sonic games. It was playing against robotnik and his mean bean machine. I didnt like it because i suck at tetris like games, but i loved it because it was an awesome call back and a creative boss idea
Puyo puyo is match 4. I love puzzle games so it didn't bother me.
I loved that fight more than the game itself, after unlocking the special mode I kept playing it non stop
I was actually smiling while playing that boss

before sonic mania came out, i was REALLY good at special stages,until sonic mania came out... those specials stages are REALLY ANNOYING! i cant even pass the 3rd one, why is it so hard!?
Hey I’ll tell y’all a little secret it’s called the reset glitch and what it it’s is when your about to lose Time (rings) or you fall off you reset your game (Before the score page comes up) then when you load back in it will allow you to go back to that ring to try again it will give you great practice with memorizing and you’ll eventually get it

@@theluigifan1 encore mode, you mean multiplayer well I never tried it on that mode but if it’s multiplayer than it wouldn’t work anyway the need is to reset your game causing you to leave so it’s best for single player
@@sokutax658 This was a glitch that was eventually patched out and other releases of the game including encore mode and any updates added to the original game EDIT: And I’m actually being legit when sonic mania first came out you weren’t required to beat the game to reset the giant rings. they patched it out about a month later and made you finish the game to reset them
These stages are hard but fair in my opinion, need to be sufficiently memorized before you can complete them, well at least the last few.
I wish there was a way to play the special stage whenever we want like the blue sphere stages in the Extras. It'll be a good way to practice them or just play them whenever we want.

When you do the bad ending, it lets you repeat the stages, I did that to practice and in 1 hour I managed to get the emeralds I think that's the best way to practice

1. Special Stage 3 (yup, there’s an easy strategy to get it in less than a minute)

4. Special Stage 2
5. Special Stage 6
6. Special Stage 4
7. Special Stage 5 (this one can really die in a pit)

Take some blue spheres at first, also take some the rings. Then take the left shortcut while the UFO takes the long path. You’ll get it once you reach Mach 2 or even before Mach 2.

I had trouble gathering the emeralds on my first playthrough but on my second and third playthrough, I got all of them with no problem in green hill zone and chemical plant zone.

Hyper is non existent in this game
well in the files it has a “HYPER” sprite people found, which means the hyper was originally going to be in the game, probably scrapped since hyper was confirmed to be not a part of the lore meaning that it doesn’t exist.
These special stages were really hard to me at first Lmao. But actually they're not that much of a challenge and can be really fun if you have the right strategy. For me, prioritizing the rings, taking every shortcut possible and only going for the blue spheres right in front of me helped a ton with getting through each stage. I'd take this over the Sonic 3&K special stages any day of the week.
Special stage 5 took me over an hour to beat but I eventually got it. Now I got all of them cause I spedrun the last two.

Jesus Christ, I lost to the 5th one THREE TIMES so far in my Knuckles run... I swear I had little to no trouble with it in my Sonic run...

I can't get past the fourth one and it makes me want to throw my controller at the TV.
I've got all seven already (i'm at press garden zone). Try to conserve as much as rings as you can because they don't respawn like the blue spheres, Keep track of shortcuts and take them if you have enough speed as the UFO will always go to a shortcut to maintain it's lead on you, use the off-road to slow sonic down in the later stages as there is no bumpers to prevent you from falling, and plan your path and always know what you're gonna collect first when you begin. And finally, collect rings first and then blue spheres after. Hope this helps!
DO NOT STEAL - LAWSUITS WILL BE FILED It does. Since the making of my original comment, I finally got that damned fourth chaos emerald lol. I only need two left. What I did first was beat the game without them to get the "bad ending" first. I just keep playing green hill over and over to get to the special stages easier and quicker. Overall I really liked this game a lot. I was indifferent to it at first simply because I was more interested in Forces, but I was not disappointed by mania for one bit. (Except I found out that Super/Turbo tails doesn't have his Flickys when he goes super) I would tell you my favorite track in the game, but it might spoil one of the levels for you so you'll have to get back to me lol

I feel like I’m the only one annoyed by how mini games are the only way of getting chaos emeralds in classic sonic, and all of them are meant to be brutal to the point where if you haven’t played the game over and over again, you’ll never get all the emeralds in any of the games in your whole life, I would personally like special stages where you play normally and don’t have to play a mini game that plays nothing like the rest of the game.
Still most classic games are short plus I found the close application and restart strategy where you close the application everytime you’re about to lose the montane saving the ring and restart to save your emerald you just got.
Bro this is so hard especially the 5th stage but I was able to do it thanks to you 😊
How do I activate the special stage I got it once in chemical plant and now it won't activate again after resetting the game and getting a game over do I need to start a new file just to get it?
That's because you already have the Emerald.

I loathed the Sonic CD special stages, and these are juat as obnoxious. Honestly the only special stages I dislike out of the franchise. But the rest of the game is awesome enough I can deal with it. Just gotta practice now.

BEST. SPECIAL. STAGE. EVER!
I don't like these special stages, because:
1. Your moves are slippery, as if you were walking on ice.
2. You get fast as how much you earn those blue balls, you have little to no time to react, but I need them to catch the UFO.
3. The UFO sometimes takes shortcuts to become faster than Sonic, so you have to know which shortcut it takes.
4. Sometimes there are no spring barriers to prevent me from falling off the map.
In conclusion, I want the Sonic team to think of something better than this.
