I have a friend who did set construction for movies and stage productions in the Chicago area. He worked his entire career without kneepads. He now uses two canes to walk. Just sayin... Follow up - we got our oven in the day after Thanksgiving, and had to hire a second contractor to come in and install the IKEA range hood. We patched up the 10" space left over the dishwasher. The project was maybe not a nightmare, but it wasn't a dream either. Finally, I still have half a garage full of the excess material that the "project planner" (I'm spitting as I say that - I'll clean it up later) ordered for the job - about 20% more than what was needed, including one assembled cabinet that was the wrong size - can't return THAT bad boy. I don't hate IKEA, per se, but Traemand, and the contractor they push you toward - never ever again.

Do you have a video about installation of the color and fill panels that go on the outside? If not can you please tell me when you put them on? Seems like you would put them on some areas prior to hanging the cabinets (for example the interior of the refrigerator area). Please say you have a video :)

RonLarhz yeah ikea kitchens use a hanging rail which all of the units hang on. Its a great idea and comes with the units (or at least will be priced in when they design it for you). There is also an alternative way of setting up the brackets to hang the units without the rail.
Hello Vurna, The height is based on ikea's standard heights. The top of the cabinets are either 84-1/2" or 94-1/2" above finished floor. These dimensions are based on the heights of their pantry cabinets. If you use pantry cabinets then the top of the pantry needs to meet the top of the wall cabinet. In this kitchen there are no pantry cabinets. In that case I fall back on the standards, which have been set by the NKBA. They recommend a clearance of 18"-20" between counter tops, and bottom of upper cabinets. Please reach out again if you have additional questions.

No side panels, no light valance, no deco strip on top, no fridge panel... we do a kitchen in offices like this 2-3 of us in 5-6 hours.. use a laser to level them it will be way easier.. dont put legs in the beg of the cabinets it’s unnecessary because there is the rail whats holding the cabinets.. I didnt see in the video if you levelled the upper cabinets but that takes time too..
Here's a random comment: what do you tell a general contractor who is reluctant to agree to install ikea because of the build quality (e.g. cam locks, etc.).?
Tell the contractor he should be able to handle any job and should be able to provide a high level of workmanship. I'm a competent DIY'er and had no issue with IKEA products over the years. Plus contractor cannot make as much money jacking up the prices on labour costs (due the simplicity of these units). Find another contractor. In fact I'll do your whole kitchen for you, just pay air fare and lunch.
Rubbish. While not at the level of a solid wood kitchen you are talking different levels of construction. A custom built kitchen costing 10K will last 20 years, these will last 10 if you maintain them.
I just imagine actually making a kitchen yourself... I got tired just looking at you assembling all these cabinets, imagine having to make them first and then assemble and install
They're not that expensive IMO. Go order a custom kitchen and see what that sets you back. My bathroom vanity was custom made of bamboo, 8 feet long and it cost $2500 with me doing the installation. My neighbour paid less for her entire Ikea kitchen (5 cabinets, 3 with drawers, and countertops).

My install was a nightmare, broken panels, parts missing and the quality was crap. Never again, I have learned my lesson.
Some of their products have vastly improved in recent times. I am very satisfied with their build quality in Canada and the UK.

Matrial also plays an important role. Not sure what IKEA uses but MDF is very cheap as compared to other materials.
