    I have been jamming for over 30 years and have come across those issues many times. In my opinion the best things you can do to improve Floyd Rose tuning stability: 1) Use a string stretcha every time you install a new set of strings 2) Adjust your tremolo so that it rests as close to perfectly parallel to the body as possible 3) Place a DROP of gun lubricant on the tremolo where the knife edges make contact with the tremolo posts. You want the metal on metal action to operate as smooth and free as possible. This will help your tremolo return to the exact position it was prior to pivoting. I have gone through many multi hour jam sessions without a single loss in tuning stability by using these steps. I wish someone would have shared those life lessons with me long ago and I could have saved myself a ton of frustration. Love your channel. Keep up the good work!

      The bottom of these nuts need to be flattened with a flat surface (I use an old granite cheese cutter base) and 320 sand paper. Also any paint on the guitar nut seat sometimes.
      The "V" nut slot with thicker strings. I use a nut file to get it to seat properly.
      Making sure the correct saddle is in the proper place is another...many other little things etc..I would guess most people do not know about the set screws down in the bridge post on a lot of these guitars. Once the action is set tighten those jam screws. Also check the space between the nut seat and face to the fret board.Maybe that was mentioned ?

    Omg I was spending so much time retuning my guitar and the tip on making the locking nut flush worked! I tried the string retainer and everything else and finally this did it. God it feels good to play for a long while and not go way out of tune at random times. Thank you for this.

    Great tips Neil. I take my guitars apart every so often just to know I am 100% to go. I have been playing Floyds or Ibanez Edge Trems since they came out. I now can't play fixed bridges LOL Yeah, I am that old! Nearly all the problems can be solved with a few simple tweaks. STRETCHING new strings is a big must. And tweaking ones nuts is always a great idea. Check those nuts and bolts ladies and you'll be chirping like Brad Gillis in no time!

    First method fixed my click sound at the nut. I bought a new guitar and this issue happen, went back to the shop, even the luthier there cannot figure it out, advised there is no issue and just need to do “pro setup” which it will incur extra charges as they are selling the service., I insisted it need to be fixed with warranty covered, they said they will try but will take time. left the guitar for 2 days, and found your video, I decided to bring back and DIY. I had an issue where one of the screws that holds the nut to the head stock wasn't close to being tight. It was actually raised up. So when i locked the nut it wasn't even locking the strings down like it should. The nut lock was hitting the screw instead and that's as far as it would go. This was on an EVH Wolfgang Standard. Another thing with these guitars is the head stock isn't angled back like a lot of guitars. So it really needs that string retainer to create a proper break angle over the nut. I noticed mine wasn't adjusted low enough. If you looked real close you could see there was a slight gap between under the strings and the top of the nut. So when you tighten down the nuts everything would go sharp. My Floyds are only set up to dive bomb. I want to get one of those trem stoppers just to make things like string changes easier and keeping the Floyd perfectly level.

    I take apart every guitar I get especially FR ones, and go through every part, deburring, chamfering, blowing out the sawdust and polishing compound, lubing what moves, Loc-titeing what stays put, preemptive shots of De-oxit D5 in pots, intonation, relief, action height, everything. It takes time but I'm never sorry I did it. Here's a new one I found today. My son kept telling me his strings were "slipping" and the guitar was detuning. I thought he was imagining things. I was swapping out his saddles today from zinc FR "Special" to steel 1000 series, and found out he was right while trying to set it back up. Turns out the damn FR springs kept stretching! I caught it because the angle of the bridge kept changing slightly. I was like are the trem claw screws pulling out of the body?! Then it occurred to me the springs were probably stretching, as unlikely as that seemed. Changed them to some EVH springs I had from a guitar I have apart. Solved. New fear unlocked. LOL

    Great video! Yeah the dreaded clicking noise. Like you said it happens to any guitar with a floyd nut mounted from the top (bottom mount is a little more stable but can still get the click) I have a brand new Jackson MJ soloist and it happened. If you practice the dime squeal your gonna get it 😅. I tightened my screws and it held for a while but the click came back. I ended up using gorilla super glue gel on the nut. Just tiny dabs, you don’t need a lot, use a toothpick tip or a pin to apply tiny dabs. I put two dabs on the base of the nut and two where it meets the fretboard. The gel gives you a little more time to work before it sets up. I can’t stress enough just a little bit, it doesn’t take a lot of force to keep it in place. You want to make sure you can get your nut off without damaging your guitar. Also make sure your screw holes are not stripped out, use the toothpick trick or dowell them and redrill if they are. Anyway, its working like a charm now. Thanks for the video, this will help many new floyd owners.

There’s this sitar like noise that is constantly encountered on the first fret and now I’ve found that there’s dead spots on the highest two strings where they can’t bend at all. It’s really a shame because when the guitar is working at full capacity it’s an amazing guitar, but I think there’s just too much going wrong with it at this point and I’ve already taken it to an guitar tech a few times so idk if it’s worth it

    Floyd Rose trems are awesome and amazing but suck at the same time. Another issue people don't know about is the screws that hold the nut in will fail over time....the nut will move. The only solution is as you say filling the holes and rescrewing or get Floyd rose rear screws and go in behind. The go in behind method will actually solve this problem on that guitar forever....why they don't just make that the standard option is beyond me but I bet it's to do with money/easy installation.

      @These_go_to_eleven_1959 ปีที่แล้ว

      They stopped doing it that way because it weakens the strength of the neck in that area where the
      neck is already vulnerable to breaking. Plus many were overtightening the bolts
      and cracked the wood. Many old Ibanez RG's from the late 80's have this crack.(do a google image search)
      A top mount floyd nut is as good as thru neck mount anyway. I have had zero issues with this mounting
      and it has been many years using them.
