Some of it depends on what you are using for wood. The next factor is the power and speed. I find that the clear solid pine gives me the best results with minimal charring. I tried plywood and once you get through the first ply it is hit or miss on what happens with the next ply. Doing a test grid with part of the image you want to engrave helps a lot.
@ I only do one pass on my engravings. If you get your settings right you won't need to do 2 passes. The only time I do 2 passes is on engravings that I am infilling with paint like lettering. The second pass is done at low power high speed to remove the char so it doesn't bleed through the paint.
This engraving took 1hour and 31minuites. The 40watt S1 does a great job at engraving. My latest video compares the 40 watt laser to a 10 watt. you can save yourself and hour or more with the 40 watt.
I am a new xTool S1 40w owner/user and new to lasers all together. I enjoyed this video and your instruction. Would you please provide the butterfly file so that I may use it to produce this item?
I bought the file on Etsy from Todayyoursunnyday. I don't own the file so I can't share it. I bought their whole store bundle and got a lot of great laser files, for a very reasonable price. I'm glad you enjoyed my video, I have more in the works for the S140watt machine.
If you would like to see a comparison between a 10 watt laser and a 40 watt laser engraving, check out my M1 vs S1 video. It can be done very nicely with a 20 watt.
Great video! Thanks! I am just turning my Xtool S1 40W for the first time, today!
Thanks, you will love it. It is a lot of fun.
Beautiful butterfly. I'll be watching for more. I liked the piece before you painted it about as much as after.
Thank you, I will have a video on working with acrylic with the s1 40watt soon.
@@burntwoodworkshop I'll be looking for it.
Lovely work! There is virtually no charring in the deep fill areas - how is this achieved? Would love to know as this is a probloem with pieces I do.

@@burntwoodworkshop Thanks for the reply, I am using solid pine and will do some burn tests. Do you find a single or multiple passes best?

@@burntwoodworkshop Your advice is appreciated - thanks!
@@DonQuinn-s3m You're welcome. Glad to help.
how long did that engraving take in real time?.......Larry I've been thinking of getting the X Tool S1

I myself am considering getting the 20w with the IR. Wondered if you think the same process will work
It should engrave fine with the 20watt. You just need to adjust power and speed a little. I am going to try it on my 10watt M1 Ultra next.
I also have the IR on the way. I can't wait to try ir.

Awesome work what material did you set it on ?
@ I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. I engrave on solid pine, the clearest I can get.
Do you think I could do it with the 20W ?
I will be running engrave tests with my 10 watt M1 Ultra next. I will get the video up ASAP.
