years after first watching this performance, I still can't describe the joy I feel watching this. Especially the cello solo from Leyla and then transcending into French for "une famille" & the energy, joy and love Allison radiates through this. So grateful this special moment in time was recorded and shared for us
I heard this song for the first time on public radio while traveling from Pennsylvania back to North Carolina in September, 2021. It made me think of my late girlfriend, Jean Fisher, who faced many struggles in her life, including a battle with cancer which, in the words of Page and Plant, "crept up and slipped away with her". As I drove past Richmond, VA, the spiritual lyrics and the haunting sounds of the cello brought me to tears. But when I got home, I found this video and was overcome by the joy and hope expressed by Allison Russell and her band of "Native Daughters". Thank you Allison for your artistry and inspiration!
Magnifique. I love to see the joy that beams from Allison Russell, her voice and body. It's moving and touching. So glad that happiness has found her after all. And this great music makes me happy too
I am in awe. What a voice, what a performance, I have watched this countless times, and will continue to do so ... there is no other song (and live performance) that can match this for redemption and the joy of living and being alive.
@@skippy9659 Amen. Her new (first solo?) album (Outside Child) is awesome, and a testimony to how she overcame adversity and an acknowledgement of the history of how she came to where she is.
This would have to be the most spirit filled song and performance I have ever witnessed. Its a song that will weave much magic into the world. A classic. As Mavis Staples says ‘what comes from the heart, hits people in the heart’. Our daughter, Annika Joy, arrived in the world 6 weeks ago, and this has become our adopted love song to her. Such a gift. Thank you, thank you. George (from Melbourne, Australia)
Rhiannon I’ve heard before, but I didn’t know about these amazing girls all together. What an absolute reach down and touch light to my soul, this song is. Tysm for this 💕
This is a great song and great performance. I usually don't comment but for the record, I don't know if it was this video of the performance or another, but I was watching, actually reading the comments on a smartphone with a small screen. If I tried to expand the textbox to read the whole post I had trouble going back to the whole listing. I was trying to click on the comments label but accidentally hit the thumbs down which on the phone was located right above what I was trying to click. So I came back at least to this one and did five likes. I know sometimes there are some things people click on don't like that I and no one else can figure out why. So maybe I stumbled onto a reason.

Almost forgot to mention the sublime role played by the males...the accordeonist, standing bass player and drummer. a Very Fruitbaring Combination. If not Marriage … "We have Fun" they sing hah
There was "White" and the mixed descendants of African slaves were called by many names.. That's why this new apartheid of "people of color" is racist and revisionist. Btw: Know the history of Country music. (Not to be confused with Country Western music). Straight out of the popular music of Blacks from Tide Water Virginia. If this is not a perfect example to how music can touch your soul you must be dead inside.

WHAT a VOICE I FEEL SHIVERING MY TEARS ARE RUNNING
The sound isn’t great but watching Alli bounce through this song sent me to the Birds of Chicago. I fell in love with her voice
This song was my 2020 pandemic listen. So much talent on stage. Even Francesco lurking back there with his accordion.

I was front row center for this set, it was amazing!!!
from the guardian: ... "a proud, devastating, authoritative album made for our bewildering time....". Really!

Yep it's absolutely one of the best albums from this year, anyway.
