I used to know someone who told me they believe they were ripped apart by wolves in a past life because they don't like dogs and then in the same conversation told me about a traumatic experience they had with a dog as a kid.

I'm pretty sure that's a "The Lighthouse" reference
It's a The Lighthouse reference.

The Flannan Island incident is another good one
Btw, on the boat
"Also, here's a crucifix"
"What for?"
"Are you religious?"
"No"
"You'll be."
I feel like the flannan Island incident was because of weather, there was a broken crate at the bottom of a large height.
But as to how they vanished is beyond me
@@roachdoggjr1hey, a @roachdoggjr in the wild!
Its always fun to watch Vinny play games that actaully scare him at some moments, Because he is not easily scared at all. Or he is just very good at hiding it
Sometimes he'll surpress it real well but then outright admit it right after
I think it's because they're his genuine reactions. A lot of streamers go out of their way to make a scene and overreact
Most times when we get scared we flinch, jump a little or make a face, but we don't scream. I imagine if Vinny had webcam on we'd see some of that.
I think that sometimes when Vinny says weird stuff or make weird voices, he's trying to keep himself from getting nervous or scared. It's understandable because I sometimes hum to myself when playing or watching horror games.
@@darrelsam419 yeah, this. I'll never get tired of recommending his _ANATOMY playthrough as an example of a game that legit spooked Vinny.
Imagine being at the top of a lighthouse, alone on an island, and hearing someone walking up the stairs. Out of sight, but advancing on you slowly with no place to run. You make a noise and the footsteps stop. But a second later they start again, and this time they’re sprinting up the stairs.
Bold of you to assume I wouldn't be carrying a shotgun at all times.
@@cal593 Even bolder to assume that would be enough to stop it.
Ye' be slackin' Winslow, I see the muck along the lighthouse walls. Best start pulling yer weight or I'll have half a mind fer sendin' ye' home without severance pay.
BEEP BOOP MEOW
You trying to ruin me?!
I remember my past life, I was deep sea giant isopod
I was a North American Fall Webworm in my past life.
I was a piece of a worm
It was about that time that I realized that Andrew was actually about eight stories tall and a crustacean from the paleozoic era.
I just remember me dieing over and over again
Amazing
scary but those maze segments absolutely killed the pacing
"But goblins don't exist do they?"
"Ohhhhhh of course they don' laddy"
"Oh good"
"But he's there idnt he."
That brief reading of the Smalls Lighthouse tragedy during gameplay helped to set the mood even better for the game.
But yeah, lighthouses are cursed. All of them. If you want ANOTHER creepy story related to them, read up on the Flannan Isles lighthouse.
Flannan Isles one is spooky as fuck
Maybe they get so much cursage because it’s either a beacon of hope for sailors or its the last thing they see ad they sink into their watery grave.
why do you think modern ones are all controlled by satellite and have high power LED's and are checked on every 6 months or when an error code pops up. Now that could also set up some spooks too
You know what? Fuck lighthouses there spooky as hell.
23:27 I was startled by the random "bang" sound from the game like Vinny was, especially since that coincidentally came right after the "beckoning corpse" part of Vinny's story.
That was like "The Fall of the House of Usher" levels of coincidental noise.
That was really nice timing on the games part haha
I love oddly specific game titles. Someone needs to make a game titled “That One Time My Aunt Mary Stubbed Her Toe On A Tuesday” or something along those lines.
Go have a blast with r/nosleep story titles
Sounds like a Lite Novel
And the acclaimed sequel, "The Other Time She Stubbed Her Toe, Which Was Either Friday or Saturday" the mystery.
particular favorite of mine is "Dr. Langeskov, The Tiger, and The Terribly Cursed Emerald: A Whirlwind Heist"
"The Time I Was Driving on the 415 and I Popped a Tire But the Towing Service Was Busy So I Spent a Couple of Hours in a Cafe Where the Internet Kinda Sucked"

If you roommate's cat brought YOU trophies it means it really liked you!
I thought cats bringing you trophies is basically them being worried about you being too stupid to hunt, because they never see you do it
Edit: Nevermind, chat mentioned it
@ Well that's the thing, it means the animal has empathy towards you and cares for you to the point of feeding you so you don't starve
Cats are sweet, benevolent masters
Yeah. It's obviously unpleasant to us humans, but for the cat, us reacting with disgust and/or anger and throwing it away will _really_ hurt their feelings.
You should pretend to be happy about it, and just dispose of it when they're not around.
Nah cats are just stupid and think that you'll congratulate them. Plus if they eat some of what they bring you they'll get sick cuz cats stomachs are very weak. Diarrhea and vomit on the floor followed by a 1000 visit to the vet.
Cats... 🙄
I can’t believe that even chat ignored the fact that the oil canister was dropped in the location that the last lighthousekeeper was at before you went into the cutscene.

I’m waiting for when an indie horror game does a PS2/XBOX/mid-2000’s look like Silent Hill 2, Rule of Rose, Pathologic Classic, etc. I think those graphics are the right mix of emulating real life while still being imperfect and in the uncanny valley.
That was probably where production value was at the best cross-section to cost and return, but I I think that's still a bit outside most indie devs' range. Silent Hill 2 in particular was made with more creative control, available tech, and budget than any game was at that time. We'd likely see games less like Silent Hill 2 and more like Disaster Report.
CosmicWaltz7 yeah I underestimate how hard it can be to make 3d models.
I know exactly what you mean. Right in the middle.
@@DenkyManner It was all about shaders, lighting, and different texture techniques at that time iirc. Polygons were sorta "good enough" for awhile until ps4 and xbone tried to push realism further. Even the leap to ps3 and xbox360 was met with some opinions of "how more real can you get?" with a lot of the realistic games being gimmicky or essentially just movies with QTE's (like in the case of heavy rain).
@@oneinathousand2156 The other issue is that games during the late- 5th and 6th used A LOT of motion capture whenever the goal was to represent real people, whether it was an action game, horror game, or what have you, and that might be a bit out of range for an indie. Early 3D animation was almost all key-framed, so you don't need a lot of tech or manpower to do it nowadays.
These have to be my favorite vinny streams just him playing a spooky little game just chillin with chat
“...had no choice but to spend every day and night looking out at the beckoning corpse”
*Jesus wept*
God has left the chat
That is, for lack of a better word, nightmarish.
"About 30 minuttes if you take your time" roughly 30 minuttes before the stream ended.
Vinny, I fell asleep to you playing this and it gave me nightmares
Spooktober got ya, dude. What was it?
Tell us your nightmare dude!
Was it about going insane in an alien asylum?
Comment at 1:04:40 : "About 30 minutes if you take your time." Looks at amount of time left: 1:34:58
That is some next level callouts there, chat. Only like 10-20 seconds off
Out of the MANY ps1 aesthetic horror games, this one is by far my favorite.
I know it's not really horror, but mine would be Paratopic.
Lost in Vivo was pretty awesome too
There's something about older graphical styles that naturally lend themselves to horror.
I do like the style but feels like there has been too many recently so it kinda looses the charm.
This is why silent hill aged so well
I'm pretty confident I only watched The Lighthouse so that I could keep up with the Vinny Brand memes.
That being said, it was a good film and well acted, even I was gaslit at the end.
It was quite literally and figuratively "Gaslighting, the movie"
Weirdly, when vinny constantly references things that are comedic/light-hearted It's annoying, but when he turns serious shit into running jokes I end up finding it funny and become genuinely interested in wtf he's talking about.
Like, I have no interest in What We Do in the Shadows because it's just "WEEZARD!" and that bit got old, but I want to watch this and some of the other weird/dark movies he talks about because it sounds bizarre and fucked. Apparently referencing comedy makes it unfunny, but turning random/dark shit into a joke is funny.
I bet Vinny would feel like shit knowing he turned you off from what we do in the shadows or whatever other funny haha shit that he's referenced, kinda pathetic if you ask me letting those sort of references annoy and turn you off from watching whatever comedies he's seen.
@@warbossgegguz679 comedy = tragedy + time
something to back the ps1 graphics that i read a long time ago, the low poly/low textures leaves more room for imagination on what could be scary, which is the whole appeal to horror to me
people saying they dont get scared easily to me are part of the mindset that they wont be scared to begin with, which is like reading a romance and hoping they break up
that or its cuz the games genuinely not scary, which to be fair, theres a lot of
Who doesn't hope they break up when they read a romance?
Having a lonely nice-paying lighthouse keeper job is fine for me imo
and if there's gonna be a goblin on the island it'll probably be me.
I love how the background in the thumbnail looks like the inside of every old person's house in Newfoundland.
Never seen an old persons house in Newfoundland but I can see it
That’s from the movie the lighthouse. Check it out!
Huh... is that what it looks like over there? Over here in Nova Scotia it looks like that in just about every old person’s hunting cabin (also, im pretty sure the background image is from the film the lighthouse, which is filmed in Nova Scotia, so that makes sense i suppose)
@@commiespy4785 I Lived for years in Nova Scotia and had the exact same thought
As a fellow Jojo fan, your name deeply concerns me...
Adding an autoturn for the camera when going down spiral stairs in videogames would be a nice touch.
Thanks for always puttin out stuff like this, it's become sort of a tradition for me to watch all your spooptober videos, especially with games like this, it really makes my halloween
The people of the British Isles were extremely superstitious about killing seabirds. Rime of the Ancient Mariner is perhaps one of the most famous examples of this in literature, which is a short story about a sailor inviting supernatural disaster upon himself after killing an albatross. Very haunting story.
Vinny needs to really pick up the ole' "keep one hand on the wall to get out of the maze" trick
thanks for your content Vinny,I'm actually stuck at home because I may have Covid so it really helps me passing time and relaxing.
Thank you,I hope too.
Goodluck man, hope all goes well for ya. Best wishes
Wishing only the best for you, dude.
Hope you get better
Hope you're doing better! Also thank you for not going out (except for medical attention of course).
Everything about this was amazing - except - for the length/complexity/non-linearity of the maze sections. It doesn't have to be a straight line, hand-holding experience, but it kills the tension when you keep dying or getting lost. That first chase was simple, but the surprise nature of the camera angle clearly trips you up enough to add to the experience without being tedious like the following sections.
Never have I gone from jumpscare to full on laughing quicker than “IT’S OKAY IT’S JUST AN INTERN!”
Is there a stream where Vinny talks about watching the lighthouse because it’s one of my favorite movies and I’d love to hear what he thinks.
Not specifically covering the movie, so who knows if he's talked about it during any other stream. Somebody would have to remember which one lol
He's done a few lighthouse-based games and he put it pretty high on his top 100 movies list
I'm pretty sure he talked about it briefly in one of the ACNH streams? Back when he was playing the game daily if memory serves.
He's talked about and referenced it during many game streams but i dont think hes dedicated time just to the film
I think he talked about it a bit when he played a game called The Shore like a month ago
Whoever said it would take 30 mins to complete from that point..... is a time wizard
1:48 i wanna know how they achieved that spook
Set the ghosts position to the players Z or X position, make it dark and spooky and dont allow it to go backwards
Vinny, Ross and Jerma in The Lighthouse: Three Stooges Edition
I’m pretty sure they’d be fine honestly
They’d certainly keep each other entertained
Was expecting Cthulhu- for obvious reasons. I like the twist of the Mothman hunting you.
Why DOESN'T anyone live under the lighthouse? It's probably a pretty comfy place to live.
No vacancy. Theres currently an ancient extraterrestrial isopod feeding on a Vinny.
The taxes are a bitch, plus, they have poor infrastructure.

I'm just starting this and I want to say holy fuck that hallway fakeout part and the footsteps from behind the door on the first night got to me. This really captured the alone-in-a-probably-safe-but-vaguely-spooky-place, seeing things in the shadows vibe.

Hell, given how reliant GameStop has become on Funko Pops these days, they might as well come full circle and change their name to FunkoLand.
To answer your question, the Old Gods feed on all emotion, but those we feel most deeply please them most. Lust, revulsion, hunger, terror... _These_ are the things they crave.
When they're done with you they cast you aside, should your essence not be consumed entirely.
Yes, I love Lovecraft's work.
Aside from the confusing labyrinths this was such a cool game.
don't worry it's just an intern
The dev made a comment on another channel, saying that it is about a cycle of getting new peeps on the island. The lighthouse crumbles when the cycle is broken apparently. Pretty neat.
I watched this back when it was uploaded and I've thought about it regularly ever since. I love games like this. And I'd like to spend a month on a lighthouse island.
Being a lighthouse keeper had been my dream since I was a little kid, and still is. I'm 30. But they don't really need those anymore sadly.
That song, by Filter, was about the suicide of the PA state treasurer. The front-man, Richard Patrick, said so numerous times lol if nobody understands what he meant when he said "oh, Budd Dwyer"
Why did he committe suicide again?
@@aswiftshift5229 He was busted doing mail fraud and taking bribes IIRC. His sentence would have had him serving up to 55 years in jail. Not surprising that he'd rather off himself than serve that sentence. When you're serving that many years, you're a dead man either way. Plus apparently his suicide gave his widow a cool 1.3 million dollars worth of benefits, which if he had been sentenced, she wouldn't have gotten since his pension would have been withheld.
@@guntherhermann4225 wasn’t it that Budd was framed and the only way for his wife and kids to even live without him was to kill himself so they got a compensation?
@@DakkaSolae So I heard. It honestly wouldn't surprise me. People go on about corrupt presidents, but local/state politicians tend to be the crookedest fucking people around. Example: Leland Yee, a staunchly pro-gun control politician who was busted purchasing firearms and rocket launchers from a group of Islamic militants with the funniest acronym known to man, in order to sell them stateside (unfortunately for him, the buyer turned out to be an undercover Fed.)
David Telles García apparently the local and regional media, plus politicians, were gonna see him get charged no matter what. The video of him shooting himself during his speech, which is on TH-cam by the way, has been essentially monetized by news stations that have the original footage and otherwise have had other sources of the clip removed. Which some say is a good example of their corruption then and now
So something DID go past the window 12:34
It was Yoda
I remember watching another LP of this game where the guys playing happened to stop in front of the window as the thing fell past. It seemed to be a person falling, or at least a humanoid being.
37:00 as soon as I heard him typing something i fucking knew he was getting lighthouse audio
Reminds me of sauna 2000 with the whole 2nd person thing
Wish I could have been there for this. Stupid adult responsibilities.
cant believe the next second of vinesauce is lighthousesauce
so Vinny WAS the centipede all along!! it all makes sense now!!!
As long as there weren't Eldritch horrors or general supernatural shenanigans, the idea of spending 6 months, alone, on a lighthouse island, sounds amazing.
Sure, it's rudimentary living, but it's good money, no bills or taxes, no grocery shopping, no human interaction, and generally tons of free time; and nobody can accuse me of slacking off, because lighthouses (used to be) essential to ship navigation, so I'm saving lives just by existing there. It's literally a vacation from life that I get paid and respected to do.
Obviously there's a lot of things I enjoy about society, but there's also a lot of hassles and annoyances I could really do with an extended break from.
I doubt I'd enjoy it literally for the rest of my natural life, but a temporary job, or maybe a recurring job periodically? That's paradise.
I can bring books and music, even if it's vinyl, so I have the stimulation I need. That whole "people always go insane without human contact" thing is crap. It's one thing if you're trapped somewhere with no stimulation or entertainment at all, like that white room torture method, but if you have things to do, it's very different.
I could even bring drawing materials, because the limited distractions might _finally_ give me the excuse I need to learn to draw again. I used to be able to draw, a long time ago, but for some reason I just... stopped, and lost all my ability. I've wanted to get it back for years, but I just cannot muster up the motivation to seriously stick with it long enough.
11:14 But there's a goblin.
Me, a deviant: A goblin you say? Now I'm interested in this island.
guys I may be on to something. I think Vinny watched the lighthouse
30:55 I guess the real goblins were the friends we made along the way
Actually had a past life hypno thing done (was invited, so I had nothing to lose). Apparently I was a plague doctor and I got shanked when some dude robbed me. Idk if I fully believe it but it seems somewhat reasonable.
Use Your Plague Doctor Skills To Get Us Out Of This Crisis.
The whole past lives thing makes me think that more people remember past lives than we think but because most people live unremarkable lives with unremarkable deaths that don't get talked about into the future we just assume they're like weird products of out imagination or random dreams.
Mazes in these kinda games are never fun unless they are hidden timed mazes that lead you to the end after a certain amount of panic.
Those rooms at the top of the lighthouse looked really cozy and calm. And that cat loved Vin and wanted to help support the family by "bringing home the bacon," so to speak.
Our first cat also constantly dropped off kills in front of our doors. One of them also included a bitten-open mouse that was still alive. Fun.
I actually remember Mike telling the story about that cat. Didn't he also tell that guy that he should probably either get rid of the cat or put it down if it attacked EVERYONE it met?
I love the style and sound design.
i really enjoy this stream
33:10 you will be blind if you stand there
Your eyes will just burn

I do sanitation (among other things). First couple months of the job we had a nasty pipe malfunction. I stayed bc I found it more enjoyable than trying to understand what people are saying in a busy store or restaurant. I don't think I'm suited for any people-y jobs.
Same here man
I fucking hate people
machines and animals are where its at
honestly this game was quite good. but without an explanation to how tf a giant meat moth creature inhabits a sentient lighthouse, along with how weird and kind of silly the creature part was, it was strangely humorous
It's called symbolism. Not all things can be explain by the real world logic in art, like in the movie Lighthouse itself.
@@hanke9595 No, one big goofy monster is not a symbolism...
@@lipcioful well, there is not only a goofy monster in this game. If you don't want to try to understand the game, it's your choice.

Huh. I thought everyone knew "Hey Man, Nice Shot" was about Budd Dwyer's on-air suicide.
I think a story can be too vague and this one is teetering on that line
there are right ways to do level design that intentionally makes the player feel like they're lost in horror games. the maze sections in this game are not that
I'd love to keep a lighthouse.
